Local here and I agree with everything (except # 1). haha / sorry.
I would like to add few must do's one or two for each island:
- Island of Maui: Drive The Road to Hana (all the way through the backside and set aside a whole full day for waterfalls and epic beaches). Go for Sunset and Stargazing on top of Haleakala (bring jacket or thick blanket).
- Island of O'ahu: Learn how to surf in Waikiki (The Birthplace of Surfing and take a private lesson / support a local instructor).
- Island of Hawai'i (The Big Island): Explore the Captain Cook Monument and do the Kealakekua Bay Kayak and Canoe tour. And also do the Manta Rays Diving or Snorkeling.
- Kauai: Sail Nā Pali Coast and Drive the Waimea Canyon.

Yes, food. Yes, cheap clothing! My students go to Hawaii every year. I want to be able to give them great advice for the Waikiki area. Sadly, they couldn’t do it this year.

@@Livingtheglobe Their English is limited and it’s usually their first experience abroad. I always make sure that they have respect. Some of them use a hand gesture towards friends in class, but they must never be seen using it, in any circumstances, in Hawaii or anywhere else.

Def a sunset sail. You can take a catamaran sunset sail it’s awesome, best way to see the sunset

What do I do if someone gives me a lei and then ask for money? Can I give e lei back?
Great question. There are a few people standing on Kalakaua ave in the evenings that sells leis they are really nice tho. They will NOT put a lei on you then con you into paying for it. If you approach then if you like the lei they are holding they will tell you the cost before putting it on. No one should ever do that nor should you expect it. But in a case it does happen take it off and give it back. Hope this helps 🌸🌸🌸

if you've only been there for 2 years most Hawaiians won't trust you. Millions of people come there, stay for a couple of years and then leave. True Hawaiian culture is very old and you are really not qualified to be talking about it. Don't believe me? Ask some one who was born and raised there!
