In this video I talk to Ben Burfitt about how he stumbled upon his long term project photographing dogs at play, and I ask his advice for those of us who are looking to find the focus for our own long term creative projects.

I really like how you give fellow photographers a space in your channel. And with them you produce very nice mini-documentaries. Well done Sean.
Thanks my friend. These are my favourite sorts of videos to make.
Fantastic work and working philosophy.
His work stands head and shoulders above any other animal photography I’ve ever seen. 😍
I loved this video. I wasn’t even interested to watch it at fist, honestly but I trusted that you always bring quality material for me to absorb. I’m new to photography. Only the past 13 months or so but I love it. I dream of leaving my job as a janitor to play with my camera full time. This has inspired me to sneak my camera into work to get shots that only I can get, in order to tell a story that only I can tell. Thank you both 🙏
Really enjoyed both the absolute humanity, honesty, and entering the dogs world. Awesome hearing photographer’s stories. More please!!!!!
I never take the time to comment on videos, but Ben's creative passion and photos are over the top. Thanks Sean...
Hey everyone who’s thinking about getting the audio book: stop sleeping on it and get it! Sean reads it so well and its just so good. I give it 5/5 Nikon D40s
Thanks my friend:)
“That’s the good stuff…” agreed - beauty in simplicity.
What a lightbulb moment! And it just so happens that my wife is a dog trainer. I make videos and photos for her, with her clients, but I never thought of doing it ‘for me’. As you always do, you’ve once again provided clarity and inspiration for me. Thank you.
Shooting the things you see everyday is great advice. We all see something interesting wherever we are. 👍
What a great guy. What he said last about taking a photo of the same thing for a year, since I started getting into photography seriously over lockdown, I found myself doing exactly that. I find that placing limitations on yourself can really force you to think creatively, to see something differently to how most people do.
Dogs in dog world, doing dog things. Photography - the art of the decisive moment. Wonderful images, thank you both.
Really enjoyed that.
Ben's personality shone through this video and felt infectious.
Thanks for forever sharing artists I've never heard of before Sean!
Brilliant photos. They put a big smile on my face.
Never smiled so much through an interview.
Amazing - photograph what you know where you are. So simple.
The lighting in this interview is phenomenal!!!
I bought this audio book for the sole purpose of supporting Sean. I didn't really think much past that. I just finished and all I can say is it is one of those books that has the power to change someone's life. It is incredible. I intend to listen ti it several times. Even if some of the shared struggles and stories aren't personally relatable, everyone knows someone that would relate. This book has come up time and again in my conversations in the last week and I believe it has helped me become a better listener and more compassionate conversationalist when discussing my friends struggles with creating. Do not think twice, buy it!
Where did you get the audio book from?
On Sean’s website or follow the link in the description.
Thanks so much my friend. I'm so glad it connected with you
Dogs and the art of photography...perfect!
Great stuff, Sean. Your way of gettng to the heart and soul of the matter is fantastic, because you always arrive there. The benifit of watching this video is gaining knowledge of substance. Thank you.
What a neat guy and what a valuable message. Thanks both of you!
Thank you, Sean.
A wonderful and inspirational video Sean, Ben's photography of dogs is phenomenal.
Interesting... so by taking photos of everyday things it is relatable to others. Putting your spin on it makes it creative... art!
I love Bens work so natural and catching the moment as it happens
This guy is amazing and his body of work is refreshing.
Great video, it’s great to see how enthusiastic and passionate Ben is about his photography!
Love Ben's work! Thanks for sharing
Goosebumps at the end, literally. ❤️
Loved it - my favourite video of yours so far.
Beautiful work of Ben and a beuatiful video of you. Perfect combination.
Kind of the Martin Parr of dogs? I love the blunt style with the flash.
Just brilliant! Thanks!
Dear Sean, I got to know so many photographers through your format. It is very inspiring and I learned a lot. Thank you very much. Please continue this format as long as possible.
Already hear it. LOVED IT! Thank you so much for the audio version
Absolutely loved this video Sean! Enjoyed every second of what Ben had to say. Photography and dogs - what a combo!
Thank you. One of your best interviews yet. And...yes, I am a dog lover/parent.
I loved everything about this video and Ben's work is incredible to the point of bringing me to tears. The teaching at the end is one of the best I've had.
Amazing as always.
Sean, I needed this so much. Thank you!!
Brilliant. Some definite ‘Ah-ha’ moments in here. Bravo. 👍🦘🇦🇺
Loved this video. Thanks Sean !!!
I simply love how you see the world! Thanks so much for the inspiration!
Love seeing videos like this. Great inspiration as well as just fun information. Keep 'em coming. Thanks Sean.
Sean, thank you for putting these together and inspiring photographers to get out and shoot. Ben's story motivates me to begin a project I've thought about doing locally. Bought your book and probably will download the audio version as well!
What a lovely story and photos. Thank you
Brilliant and inspiring thnx Sean and Ben
Another cracking, thought provoking and thoroughly enjoyable vlog Sean. Many thanks as always
Brilliant as always, thanks 😀
This is brilliant. So good to see someone get real and being able to find his way, adapting his dream. Really inspiring, thank you!
Cheers Sean! Wonderful work!
Great work from Ben. Fantastic unique images.
I love your work from photography to YT videos(probably have watched all of them by now). And for me, this one is the most inspirational. When somebody is new in photography we always tell them to not worry that much about the gear, you don't need much to take amazing shots. This story shows that you don't need much to work on an amazing project. And you don't need much in life to be happy.
Keep it up!
Dogs, our best friends for life! Ben's pictures are unique and excellent. Hosting his work on your site I think is quite commendable. Thanks
What an amazing and unique body of work!
Nice one Sean and Ben. I often overlook the dynamic appeal of my seemingly mundane life, and yet with a creative mindset occasionaly capture the most amazing experiences. Mindset for the win.
Thank you for making such an inspirational video!👍👏🥰
Absolutely inspiring!
Now that was such a lovely video. I loved the way Ben spoke from his heart about the thing he loves to do and what superb pictures at the end coupled with the music. Absolutely excellent video. I have two fluffy wheaton terriers and I only have those 'sweet' photographs of them that Ben talks about. Going to take my GR3 and flash with me now every time I go out. Thank you for the inspiration Ben and Sean for making that video. Superb!!
Wow! Thank you, Ben Burfitt for your story! It really motivates me to start a project too. And thank you Sean for providing your beautiful stage to other voices!
Definitely there was dog breath in his shots. Took me back to when I took our dogs out when I was younger and had them. Thanks for this
Bloody love this story and the images! Very inspiring!!
Dogs in the dog world doing dog stuff :-/) Love this video!! smiled all the way through :-)
Thanks Sean. You've just got to love this guy. 😀 Down to earth. 🐕🦺
Amazing and unique work!
So inspiring. Thanks!
Great work. Excellent. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Sean, these are wonderful interviews, there a warm intimancy that comes across them.
These are an enlightening addition to the channel.
Such a unique perspective. Thanks Sean 🙏
This was what I really needed to hear as I'm thinking of starting off on my own project. Thanks for doing this interview Sean! And amazing philosophy by Ben no less.
What an amazing Video! Love Dogs and Photography too. Thank you Sean and keep it up! Regards from the Philippines
Yay! New video! 👏❤️
Outstanding!
These are so amazing, they carry over that conversation feel from your own videos which I love but they also take you into a photographer that I may never find or only see a picture in my feed on social media and not really see the story. This tells me who, what, where and most importantly for me the why and I get to see the world through their eyes for a bit. It may change how I look at my world a little bit and maybe I notice something I would have walked past a day before. I’m annoyed I didn’t get notified this went up and just found it now, I look forward to the next one more and more with each video
Awesome Vlog Sean, and Thanks to Ben. Very very good work.
Brilliant!
What a great story well told.
Fascinating interview and so stimulating! Thank you both! It certainly resonated with me…during the lockdowns I ended up walking the streets of the country town where I live over and over…So I decide to create a photo book just for me, of details That I could see, i started with front doors, then moved on to letter boxes, door knockers, chimney pots and so much more…I discovered so many interesting things that I had walked past literally for years but never really observed before…I put sets of about 9 pics of the best categories together and now have a oneoff book I am proud of..I showed it to a few friends who were fascinated and blown away that all these details were in our neighborhood…. I highly recommend doing something well just for your own satisfaction as Ben suggests!
"If you're doing dog photography you should be able to smell wet dog. If you can smell dog breath, then I've done what I need to do."
How amazing story love it
fantastic video again !
Awesome.. love the bit about being able to smell the dog's beath through the photos.... Superb ❤️
Exceptional photo's and excellent advice/comments from Ben. If the dogs knew how to trip the shutter these are the photos they would take. Great job of letting "us" peek into their world. Sean, as usual, your thoughtful and comprehensive approach to photography leads to exceptional videos like this one. Just keep doing what you do, as the comments below prove there are tons of folks that appreciate it.
brilliant photos, great video
I've seen these images on Instagram before. It's nice to hear from the artist! Great interview.
Great advice and love the photos!
Awesome interview. 👍
Great photos that just happen to be of dogs. This may be the video I've needed to get me out of a major creative slump.
simple and amazing......
Such nice video....thanks a lot
Brilliant just brilliant. I shoot my dogs at the park often and this just reassured me I’m not weird.
Just ordered the book...love physical books! Excited to read
Enjoy 🙏🙏
Such a cool story
The Bruce Gilden of street dogs. Such an inspiration, thank you.
Yes, making good stuff with what's around you!
Applause for simple projects!
This guy is Bruce Gildog!!! Very inspiring!
Funny:) I like it.
Brilliant,
Interesting and insightful, and nice to see someone who understands how to, and uses, the flash.
