I really like this, and here’s why! Even though the timing is not correct you were able to see every movement that the hands are supposed to be making and watching other videos when someone turns to the side or their back is to you you don’t see what their hands are doing. This should be done with every kata!
Sensei, could you explain how the spinning crescent kick is applied? I have always been curious why we don't just do a simpler kick even just a punch prior to the jumping kick.
Hi Phil, we explain in detail in our Suparinpei Analysis Instructional Video. Also you can take a look at the playlist "Suparinpei" where we show a couple of examples. Most importantly do not be fooled by the foot itself, rather consider how it is used in conjunction with the hands, in addition to why a spin. Although the jump kick looks like a jump kick it is not really performed as a standard jump kick.
Perfect for when my knees go and very teachable to informed people 👍🏾

As I'm watching this, tensho kept coming to mind; removing the stances/kicks/turns seems to accentuate the relationship between the two kata.
That's what I was thinking.
This is the highest level kata in Goju Ryu. It's known as Suparempei. Translates to "108 Hands."
definitely Chris.
I love practicing my Kata sitting in a chair or in seisa.
