    As a rookie camper and a new Tesla owner, your vids are hugely helpful! My questions relate to
    - mileage and charging, as in setting myself up for success when I’m on the road this summer with a good plan
    - equipment I need to camp
    - sleeping gear for Tesla interior
    - random ideas about bear spray, hiking in general and preparing
    - touches such as firewood, sunsets, using my computer to show movies, and time zone changes
    Thanks so much!

    Bryan, great point about caching the locations when you have signal! I had the opportunity recently to road trip from LA - to El Paso TX. Many of your tips definitely came in handy!
    For anyone who is wondering, the Tesla community at chargers while road tripping is amazing! I came across a charger in NM that was at a gas station and the employee even encouraged spending the night at the supercharger since they had 8 and only about 3 ever get used. He said “ we have cameras and lights pointing at the chargers feel free to call it a night right there since you are in a Tesla.”

      That's awesome to hear, Christian! Glad some of my tips came in handy.
      I also can attest to the Tesla community at chargers being amazing and that was super nice of the gas station employee.
      One other option for sleeping is many Superchargers have an extra spot or two on each end of the row of chargers that would look like you're still charging, but doesn't actually have a charger so you can inconspicuously get in a nap if needed without blocking another Tesla owner from charging.

    Great cooking ideas and recipe Bryan, I am wondering why didn't you go with a dual hot plate burner versus the single to help cook with multiple pans

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому

      I originally had a dual plate, but it fell out of my cargo box when I was at my storage unit breaking it and decided it took up a bit too much room so got the same one, but in a single plate. When you're in a small space sometimes for a couple weeks, every inch of space counts. I've even refined my setup a couple times since then. I think I have it all dialed in now so the new trips I'm taking over the next couple months will show that. I'm now pretty happy with my camping setup. 😀

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому

      Glad you enjoyed it, Larry! As for personal protection... I think the combo of Sentry Mode now with Live Camera views on the Tesla while you're away from the car is helpful. Bear spray and an axe for chopping wood is pretty sufficient. Always being aware of your surroundings especially late at night at Superchargers is important (I've run into my fair share of weirdos). Letting friends/family know where you are when camping (I sometimes share location on my iPhone with family members). Anything beyond that I'll leave up to personal discretion, but that should cover most issues. Thanks for watching! 😀

    This is an amazing vid Bryan. I loved watching your cooking skills; it’s good to see such healthy fare cooked up in a remote location, well done! I plan on copying your sleeping setup in my model 3 and we’ve talked before about our Vegas connection. I plan on putting sunshades on the top because I am a light sleeper when it comes to ambient light. I watched Bjorn use old credit cards to keep the sunshade from falling off the roof (apparently the suction cups are weak). Have you ever tried Mountain House freeze dried meals? That is how I plan on eating (just add hot water) and frequenting local high-rated food joints on Yelp/Google maps. I am also still trying to cajole my Vegas vinyl shop into creating custom vinyl window/windshield inserts that are dark and not reflective so they look more inconspicuous. They have so far haven’t found the right plotter 3rd party. If I come up with a solution that works better than what I see commercially available, I’ll post here.

      @@bryanhauer The model Y is gorgeous and probably perfect for car camping out of all options available. I have high hopes for the Cybertruck and it could be even better if it’s possible to sleep in the bed and get good heat/AC circulation from the battery, especially since there would be no windows there to cover. Honestly, an electric Sprinter van with good battery or range or even a Ford transit van that is an EV would maybe be just a tad better IMO because it gives you that van life versatility without drawing attention to the fact someone “might” be sleeping in the vehicle like an RV or 5th wheel does. You showed in your video how much you are saving on gas, but saving $100-$200/night on hotel stay and showering at a (CrossFit?) gym makes seeing the country a lot more economically feasible! I spent $7k on flights, lodging, and food seeing eastern Canada for 1 month some years ago. I could probably get about the same experience I had then of exploring novel places for under $1k in my model 3 today.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому +1

      For sure. Between my comps in Vegas at a few casinos and being able to camp in my Model Y, I traveled 20k miles for very little. It's a great way to see the country. It can get a little cramped, but breaking it up by staying at a hotel or Airbnb once a week or two helps solve that issue.
      I think Elon eluded previously to wanting to do a Sprinter van and even reached out on Twitter to them. Obviously it's not a priority as the reach will be limited and they need to currently focus on mass appeal, but I agree... I'll be first in line when they do release something like that. Hopefully it's modular so people can easily change configurations or add features.
      As for the Cybertruck... I recently put my order in thinking I'll get delivery late next year or early 2023 which will be good timing as I'll be ready to try something new. I'm excited for the towing capacity and plan to get an off-road travel trailer. Have a specific one in mind, but we'll see what's out at that time.

      @@bryanhauer I think all the trails around there are like that!! Question, is Pigeon Forge the closest super charger? Would you feel comfortable charging and then driving let’s say to, Cades Cove, doing that whole round trip and back?

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому +1

      Yep. Pigeon Forge is really the only Supercharger in that area. I think you'd be fine going to Cades Cove and would have plenty of range to explore for the day. Just charge up to 90%. One other option is to book an RV site where they have a 30 or 50amp hookup. There were plenty of those on Campendium when I looked. Always call RV campgrounds ahead to make sure it's ok you're camping there in a Tesla. In Florida, I've heard of a few issues with car camping, but usually everywhere else it isn't a problem.

    Is one of the main reasons you're getting so much better Energy consumption is because You are not driving at Western speed limits of 80 and 85 miles an hour. You're at anywhere from 55 to 65 miles an hour in the East. Is huge energy savings. Unless you're one of those people that don't care about speeding tickets. Lol 😆

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому

      That's probably one of the reasons, but I'm still going 75 so I don't think 5 or even 10 mph would make that much of a difference. Most of the speed limits around NV, AZ, UT are similar. There are some spots that are faster, but I rarely would go above 80. Spoiler: On my recent trip to test my camping setup, the range was also dead on, but that was a slower speed as it was county highways most of the way. I'll try your tip about filming the range when drafting off a semi.

    hey bryan, was wondering if you ever had experience with seeing if there is a big difference in the suspension with the performance model Y and the long range model Y . i orderd the long range model Y but now im feeling i should of ordered the performance. only reason why i didnt go with the performance is becuase of what i heard about the suspension flaws.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  2 роки тому

      Hi Thomas - My understanding is they have the same suspension except the performance version is slightly lower. Neither had an air suspension when I purchased in mid 2021, but I believe that was changing in 2022. Also haven't heard of any flaws outside of a small recall (under 1000 cars) for a suspension knuckle issue which was addressed and never led to any crashes. Other than that, I'm unaware of any flaws.
      I will say the ride in my 2021 MYLR is a bit rougher than most luxury cars in the same class. The super soft seats do help a bit and the quietness in the cabin is pretty good so I haven't noticed too much, but if I had one request it would probably be for an air suspension which I believe is coming in the new models.
