- The Historical Oakvale Monastery & Cemetery in Stradbally, Co. Laois (Queens County), Ireland. The inscription on the tablet of the church mentions Pole Cosby and Stradbally Hall which was given to Francis Cosby by Queen Elizabeth I in 1562, as a reward for his enthusiastic suppression of the natives.
Stradbally Hall remains in the Cosby family to this day and is currently owned by Thomas Cosby and is home to the annual music festival Electric Picnic (see link below for further info).
Oakvale Cemetery contains one Commonwealth war grave of James Murray who was shot and killed by the IRA during the Irish Civil War in Clonakilty Co. Cork on 28th July 1920.

Does that mean you are on the guest list every year for Electric Picnic? Thomas Cosby is the current owner of Stradbally hall and where they hold the festival and is a living relative of yours. 😊
I was working at the festival last year and drove past the cemetery almost daily so I went in did a little research and made the video. A very interesting place.

@@AdventureIreland Ohh I wish! My last name is actually Robinson...the Cosby family is married into the Boothe family here in the USA which is my mothers side. William Cosby was born in Stradbally but then moved to New York. He suppressed the colonists from talking smack about the British government to the point that his wikipedia page says it later caused the push for "Freedom of the Press" to be a leading issue for our founding fathers during the Revolutionary War. lol I guess he was given a thousand acres in Herkimer NY but then died in Fort Battery which was just down the road from where the World Trade Center is today.
