I was posted there in 1976 on the UN. I remember driving around the airport on our way to our posts in Astromeritis (Box Factory) that Trident was there then, but obviously in a lot better condition. I was 20 at that time, and I'm now 65, seems like yesterday.. Pretty desperate place after that war....
I have walked through the airport and the plane and also walked down the runaway. Just to the north of the airport there is an old 4-engined Shackleton.
Nicosia.Crazy that.Blinking hell.Reopen it,come on .....plus a grrrrrrreat museum.Shame about the turmoil,death,and destruction though.Love,peace,Thrimp
When I was there in 83 the plane was in a hanger and there was bits of a plane in the field aty the end of the runway. Best 6 months of my life living there in that Airport.
Ridiculous. Why can't Greece and Turkey come to an agreement. National pride displayed like this is so childish and utterly counter productive. Better still, Turkey should bugger off
+Adrian Larkins Well, considering the huge amount of people slaughtered during the invasion, why would the greeks want to speak with them? And why would the turks, that want the whole island, speak with the greeks? Google kurdistan 2016 massacre
+Aitor Bleda go do ur research, the Greek authorities started ethnic cleansing on the Turks. The Turkish army had the right due to an agreement to protect the Cypriot Turks. Many innocent turks died due to the conflict started by the Greeks. The turkish army came afterwards and in one day took half he island back. Even today he turkish side is not noticed by Europe. I believe I'm a reliable source because I was there when it happened. Please don't come up with your conspiracy theories. Yes, I wish both sides could live side by side in peace like they used to but I know who I blame for it and I could give you future information.
yes your rite mate they invaded the north where only 25% of turkish cypriots lived at the time but forgot to liberate the rest of the 75% who lived on our side in the south......what went wrong there i wonder.

Turkish is an official language of Republic of Cyprus. But, there was no Turkish sign or something Turkish in only Airport in Cyprus. Basically it shows point of view against Turks before 1974 and now.
I think the British with their bases on the island failed to keep their part of the bargain could have prevented the problems begun by the junta in Athens would sought to join the island to Greece...and with the Brit failure, the Turks had no option but to land and protect the Turkish minority on the island...and when there was a deal, the Turkish side voted for it and the Greek side against so we have this problem...now the Greek side is in the EU which failed to specify that both sides must support the deal and of course the EU failed or their was a deal. So we have what we have now...
Having been here myself, I can hand on heart say it is one of the creepiest places on earth.
