    I just watched Man On Wire. Wow is all I can think. One quote of his really moved me - “If I die, what a beautiful death. To die in the exercise of your passion.”

      +popvinnik and now you have to watch The Walk :)

    • @popvinnik
      @popvinnik 9 років тому

      +ScaryManiac I don't think I can. I've always had trouble with movie maker's depictions of individuals and their stories. They're always changed around and over dramatized.

    • @ScaryManiac
      @ScaryManiac 9 років тому +8

      +popvinnik I know perfectly what you mean, but I saw both and Philippe was directly involved in the new movie. Whoever saw Man On Wire will agree with me that The Walk respected everything what the documentary had showned us before. You can trust me on that.
      Also, the movie brings us the feeling on what it was like beeing on the wire itself.

      That is one hundred percent accurate. That was the most exhilarating 20 minutes I have ever watched in a movie. I was on the edge of seat from the first to the last step. When he finally stepped off the wire I exhaled a breath of relief.

      The Wire was done with Philippe teaching Joseph Gordon Levit how to walk a wire. The entire movie was guided by Petit.

      I literally spoke with him last week. He used the wire rope my company manufactures to cross the Twin Towers, the Cathedral, and other hire wire walks. He is a very humble man who cares about the theatre industry.

  • @wmobberley4416

    This man is my absolute hero. I cannot imagine that I could ever in a million years walk a tightrope between the two towers (or their equivalent given that they are no more.)
    Play a piano concerto? Well, if I practiced enough, long enough, hard enough, then yes, I believe I could indeed learn to play a piano concerto. If Philippe Petit were my teacher, I believe he could get me to walk on a high wire but high enough for the fall to kill me, never! I admire him so much.
    As for the film "The Walk", see it on as large a screen as possible in 3D. It is the greatest 3D film ever made bar none and it really gives one the sense that one is up there walking between the two towers. That is how I know I could never do such a thing. My hands were clammy and I felt very uneasy just watching it and my heart was in my throat even though I KNEW he was not going to fall.
    A God among men. We are being visited by ETs and they must be very technically advanced but on behalf of the human race, I would point to Philippe Petit walking between the two towers and say: "Let's see you do that, ETs!" I doubt even they could match such a feat.

    He put so much effort into his TED presentation. The fire in the beginning and the way in which he presented the handwritten slides. This guy is a true artist! It is interesting how someone who seems to love life so passionately is also the one who is able to risk it at 400 m off the ground without a safety net.

  • @slaughtz

    I thought this was going to be a boring and uninspiring talk at first - just some guy who did something and gives a checklist of what he did. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised with entertainment and some words of wisdom. "When we inspire ourselves, we inspire others."
    Great story.

    If I was the FOH audio engineer of TEDTalks, I would have cut Philippe's audio during his juggling performance, or at least (band-pass) gated the signal to only allow his voice to be heard instead of his breathing.
    Most of the time it takes the engineer to be an artist to work with an artist.

    But i am still waiting for the day when TED will invite a real juggler. Juggling has been a part of some TEDtalks, but never REAL juggling, i mean, anything a juggler would recognize as really difficult.
    If you want to see real juggling, ill pick just 2 random ones where i know they are on youtube, just search for " Toby Walker 2006 profile" or "Mills mess in Tokyo".
