When he showed up. I was at a total loss for words. We were told about the Leopard a lot but he never showed. The rainy season has brought so much diversity to the water hole. The Feral horses returned. The Cape Hare started getting closer to the camera. We had the Cheetah show in February. Now the infamous Leopard makes an appearance, The Namibia and Kalahari cameras are letting us see so much nature. It's a pleasure to be part of Gondwana-Collection.

How lucky for those who were able to see him live! I love how his eyes glowed every time he looked towards the camera.
And he is so quiet as he walks; the perfect predator - the prey would not be able to hear him coming.

It could have been after a kill and he was thirsty. Carnivores feel thirsty after eating, and it could be that he had killed some animal for food during the night!
Leopards are mammalian animals found in Asia and Africa and which stand out for the presence of spots on their fur, which are very reminiscent of the jaguar. These animals are carnivores and are capable of capturing large prey such as antelope. They are fast and have great hearing and vision. Leopard populations are threatened due to human action, which destroys their habitat and hunts them in retaliation for attacking livestock as well as for the illegal fur trade.
Leopards are about two meters long and can weigh up to 90 kg. Males tend to be larger than females. In addition, leopards that live in savannas and forests are considerably larger than those seen in mountains and deserts. The leopard's neck is long, its legs are short, and its tail is long. They have sharp, strong and retractable claws. Leopards are animals that have a very characteristic pattern of coat colors, having fur that varies from light yellow to reddish-orange, with a large amount of black spots spread over the body. These spots are called rosettes.
Leopards are very agile animals that can reach about 60 km/h and can jump about six meters horizontally and three meters vertically. They are also great tree climbers. It is very common for leopards to go up to these places to feed, especially in areas where there are many competitors, as this way they prevent their food from being stolen.
They are twilight/nocturnal animals. They are solitary and inhabit large territories, which are marked with feces, urine and claw marks. They communicate through sounds such as roars and growls. Leopards are preyed upon by animals such as tigers, lions, wild dogs and hyenas.
They do not have only one partner during their lifetime, it is possible to verify males and females with several partners. Breeding can take place throughout the year, but the peak of the breeding season is the rainy season. Gestation lasts about 96 days, and, on average, two young are given birth.
They have about a kilo at birth, and initially they are hidden in burrows. They begin to come out of the burrow regularly at six to nine weeks of age, when they begin solid food. Complete weaning occurs at three months, and independence occurs at about 20 months.
In the wild, leopards can live, on average, between 10 and 12 years. In captivity, these animals reach 21 to 23 years.
Leopards are carnivores, meaning they eat other animals. They are ambush predators, attacking their prey without it noticing their approach. They can feed on different animals such as birds, reptiles and mammals (such as rodents, antelopes, gazelles and deer). After capturing their prey, where there is competition for food, they hide them under vegetation or on top of trees.
      Difference between leopard and jaguar:
The first difference between the leopard and the jaguar concerns the place where these species live. While leopards are distributed across Africa and Asia, the jaguar is found in South and Central America. Another very striking difference concerns the rosettes. In jaguars, rosettes feature black dots in the center, while leopard rosettes do not encircle dots. In addition, jaguars are larger and heavier than leopards. The jaguar's tail, however, is shorter than the leopard's.
      Leopard and Black Panther:
Black panthers and leopards, contrary to what many think, are the same species. Black panthers are a case of melanism, in which an individual has genes that cause more pigment to be produced. With that, we have an animal with black fur. It is believed that melanism may be an advantageous characteristic for those individuals who live in forested regions, with greater amounts of shadows, as this condition favors camouflage.

@cristina carnivores get most of their water from the blood of the prey species they feed on however, as the person below has explained they do get thirsty after a meal. Just about every other animal I've ever seen come to this watering hole takes it's time to look around and check the surroundings before daring to lower it's head to the water, then at the sound of any disturbance they startle and look and around again before going back to drink, or even are too spooked to go back.
This Leopard just strolls straight up and drinks without care for other noises or anything. That's what it means to be an apex predator. That's what you call Alpha.
