You Sir are the best. If we asked any other V.C. person on youtube to showcase black artists in their collection they would have just 1 album. Bob Marley's Greatest Hits.
Awesome picks, though I’ve not delved into any of Eazy-E’s solo stuff. There was a time before I got into punk that Rap/Hip-Hop was my wheelhouse. Fat Boys’ 1984 self-titled 12” is still in my top 10. I’ve been heavily into Deep & Northern Soul lately, almost obsessed. These 3 singles fueled the fire…. The Epitome Of Sound - You Don’t Love Me Little Tommy - Baby Can’t You See The Fascinations - Girls Are Out To Get You I’m a singles guy anyway, so I don’t mind wanting to track them down …and buy them with an unforeseen inheritance or winning lottery ticket.
Great selections, Richie Aretha's Atlantic output is pretty much flawless. Curtis, Otis, Marvin - they wrote the book. I'm glad you included some blues. The Howlin' cover is great. That's the cleanest copy of There It Is that I've seen. Now why did you put Prince in Time Out; leave him in the corner? You have a Dirty Mind,!
I have never seen that Funkadelic album - very cool. All my friends had that RL Burnside Whiskey album when it came out (along with me) - I guess you basically needed it to be in the group. Go Ahead John is so fantastic.
Hello Rich war has some cool funky jams! Aretha. Oh she was great !Parliament always gets the dance floor on fire.Yellowman is cool Reggae! Thumbs up! Trish
Class video Richie! Eazy Mudda Funkin‘ E! I’ve got Aretha Now on Cd, but need to get some of that good stuff on vinyl. Nice Parliament collection! Love me some Love ❤️ Loads of great stuff on here… cheers, Jack
Great picks Richie! NWA's ''Straight Outta Compton'' was a revelation for me. I bought it when it first came out, and played it everywhere I went, mostly on my Walkman but also in my car and at the beach. It took me out of my routine of listening to The Grateful Dead and Jazz. I was happy that all my friends enjoyed it too, which was sort of a surprise. Tip of the hat goes to Stevie Wonder for helping make Martin Luther King Day, a national Holiday. Another tip of the hat to Stevie Wonder for playing drums with Hendrix on his BBC sessions. ''Songs In The Key Of Life'' is one of my favorite albums by a Black Artist.
Hi ya Pat👋🏻.....oh this is gonna be good....I don’t segregate mine either except as you say, reggae, blues, funk,....omg!!! You saw Eric w WAR???? DANG! They are crazy cool dig WAR✊🏻🎶🎶 innervision my favorite 🎶🎶nice Herbie albums, you saw Herbie too?😮🎶🎶 no Mississippi John Hurt?? I see Prince lurking in the corner😁 cheers Rich✊🏻☮️🎶
Great list Richie. For some reason I’ve gotten away from buying black music, although I have plenty. I’m making it my mission to pick up many more in ‘24. I’m an old white dude, and I’ve seen some of the greats like Muddy, Marley and the Wolf. Cheers.
Great list, to bad you couldn't shoehorn in Love and the Bad Brains. One of my favorite drummers of the HC era was D.H. Peligro of the the Dead Kennedys. Another great video.
Hey Rich. Great list. As a fellow old white dude, this is very close to who I would choose. Love that you showed Run-DMC... dig those cats. Of course, your blues picks are outstanding. Thanks. Cheers!
Great video, Richie. What can I say? You are so effortlessly cool. Always with unique records and with something interesting to say about each one. That Curis Mayfield album is brilliant (As is his first record). Both are more difficult to find than they should be. And those two Howling Wolf albums are essential. I’m with you on James Brown’s Talking Loud (and saying nothin). There is a killer workout of the song on the CD compilation Funk Power. Its on UA-cam. It’s unedited and worth hearing if you dig the track. Thanks for blazing your voice and music across VC. Cheers!
Great video, as I was watching it what caught my attention is how cool most of those albums covers are. Surprised to not see Prince in that list but top list are not easy to make, I can’t do it . Cheers
I have a Stax 4 CD boxset that is great. The Stax artist that I most want to add to my collection is Jr Walker and the All Stars. I have one of their albums but would love to have more.
I have a few of these and out of all of them, Innervisions is tops for me....followed closely by Otis, Marvin or Sam Cooke. Though Aretha is always good too. Lol this is why I have a hard time ranking. Just something about those that are so damn good. Awesome selection man. Cheers! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘
War albums are great, they were even better live and influenced many bands in SoCal. That long sax solo on the world is a ghetto inspired me to get deeper into jazz. I Never Loved a Man was a breakthrough, the later Young Gifted and Black is also a fave. All good picks.
From yet another old white cat, my Top 10 in order are: *James Marshall ‘Jimi’ Hendrix* *Sonny Sharrock* *Billie Holiday* *Marvin Gaye* *Blue Magic* *Barbara Mason* *Jimmy Smith* *The Commodores* *Desmond Decker* *The Intruders*
Facts Of Life by Bobby Womack is my favorite R&B album & his single Across 110th St. is so good it plays in the opening & closing credits of Jackie Brown. Madonna ripped off Arthur Lee & Love on Beautiful Stranger which " borrows " from She Comes In Colors.
Surprised how low Arthur Lee was, I like the first love album and de capo slightly more than forever changes. I thought maybe you would have pure hell or the stains on your list
MET MUDDY WATERS KING OF THE BLUES IN BOSTON 1975 A FEW YEARS BEFORE HE PASSED. SAW HOWLIN WOLF AND A FEW OTHERS FROM THE OLD SCHOOL OF BLUES. ALL PASSED NOT LONG AFTER. DON'T MAKE EM LIKE THAT ANYMORE.
Black Artists? Don't get me started. There's so many great ones. I suppose that's their greatest contribution to humanity their music more so than any other race..... LOL that Grits and Soul was a big disappointment Pat. After grooving the Live at The Apollo album the next one I got was that Grits and Soul. I had no idea it was an instrumental album which really pissed me off. LOL... I'd of had a lot of early 50s rocker bands in any list I'd make up. I was surprised not to see Lenny Kravitz and glad not to see Drake in your video......
Here is my list: The Jackson 5/The Jacksons Marvin Gaye Teddy Pendergrass The Temptations Smokey Robinson Run DMC Public Enemy King’s X Fishbone Living Colour
Best title of all time for a tag . Truly inspiring , I'll do a 45rpm one.
That will be a good one.
@@vinylrichie007 It’s a brilliant premise for a video and opens up all sorts of possibilities
Old White Dude pretty much describes the entire vinyl community.
😂😂😂
There are a couple of middle aged dudes.
"I'm off white, we will prevail." - Mitch Hedberg.
Very cool music.
Peace on earth.
Peace indeed.
You Sir are the best. If we asked any other V.C. person on youtube to showcase black artists in their collection they would have just 1 album. Bob Marley's Greatest Hits.
That is so true. Most only have Legend.
Thank you for the kind words.
Someone beat me to it already...just wanted to say also this is the best video title ever! Love it. Great video.
Love the list. Thanks so much for sharing the link. Otis i think will make everyone's list. Such an amazing performer that had such a short life.
I really enjoyed your video.

I was unaware of Northern Soul until I started watching youtube videos. Thanks for the comment.

Prince in the corner is my acknowledgement that many will question Prince not being included.
I have never seen that Funkadelic album - very cool. All my friends had that RL Burnside Whiskey album when it came out (along with me) - I guess you basically needed it to be in the group. Go Ahead John is so fantastic.
Such a good run of jazz fusion , soul , funk albums in the early 70s
I love that era of funk and jazz.
Hello Rich

I also have Now and about 5 other Aretha CDs.
clean edits of eazy e songs may as well be explicit versions
I enjoyed your stab at this with some obscure choices.
Man Richie got to get more Queen of Soul
I have a half dozen on CD.

I don’t buy as much as I used to. I saw Marley. I wish I had seen Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf.

When it comes to black artists Stax and Atlantic rule my collection.
I have a Stax 4 CD boxset that is great. The Stax artist that I most want to add to my collection is Jr Walker and the All Stars. I have one of their albums but would love to have more.
That mister yellowman might be my favorite reggae album of all time , the whole thing is fantastic and it was well recorded. Terrific list✊🏽
Mister Yellowman is great.
I thought for sure, you being a punk guy, you would have Bad Brains on your list! great video as usual!
If I did a top 25. Maybe a top 30.
I have a few of these and out of all of them, Innervisions is tops for me....followed closely by Otis, Marvin or Sam Cooke. Though Aretha is always good too. Lol this is why I have a hard time ranking. Just something about those that are so damn good. Awesome selection man. Cheers! 🍻✌️🤘🎶🤘
My top five or six are set in stone. The others not so much.
War albums are great, they were even better live and influenced many bands in SoCal. That long sax solo on the world is a ghetto inspired me to get deeper into jazz. I Never Loved a Man was a breakthrough, the later Young Gifted and Black is also a fave. All good picks.
War were great live. I have 5 or 6 Aretha CDs.
You’re a dude …. A cool dude . A knowledgeable dude
I try
Good one. Kind of thought I’d see Bad Brains or Fishbone. ✊🏿
I came very close to including Bad Brains.
Old White Dude is full of surprises 🤘🏻. Got any early (solo) Ice Cube to go along with that Eazy E?
I have a couple of ice Cube 12”s.
R L Burnside : the jazz station out of Toronto plays him on Saturday night during the Blues set with Danny Marks , great stuff
I wish a radio station in Bakersfield played RL Burnside.
Everyone needs more jazz and blues @@vinylrichie007
He plays the spectrum of blues starting at 8 est 91.1 even on the interweb , great stuff @@vinylrichie007
Well, since I have a few of these records, I can conclude that I am a typical old white dude. I knew that already 🙂
I’m not sure any of us in the VC are typical.
From yet another old white cat,
my Top 10 in order are:
*James Marshall ‘Jimi’ Hendrix*
*Sonny Sharrock*
*Billie Holiday*
*Marvin Gaye*
*Blue Magic*
*Barbara Mason*
*Jimmy Smith*
*The Commodores*
*Desmond Decker*
*The Intruders*
That is a strong top 10. Billie Holiday is so good.
Across 110th Street is so good. I do need dome Bobby Womack.
You are letting your hair grow out. Looks good! Are you growing a beard next? You need to do it man. Peace ☮️ Namaste 🙏 the Zonkman
I think my beard days are behind me .
This old white guy : the first time i dropped the needle on an comp album we had when i was a kid , Chuck Berry , Johnny B Good , that touched me
I don’t have much in the way of 50’s rockers. Chuck Berry should be on this list.
Excellent video bro
Thank you brother.
You got jungle fever....? You're fave movie.
It was okay.
Surprised how low Arthur Lee was, I like the first love album and de capo slightly more than forever changes. I thought maybe you would have pure hell or the stains on your list
I’m still looking for De Capo. I have it on CD but I don’t play CDs any more.
Miles is King. Just saying. Loved to see RL Burnside on the list- It’s Bad Ya Know. Loved everyone of these but I am an old guy
I’m sure you could do a great video but all your records are in boxes. I have a feeling Miles would top your list.
No Prince?? 😢
I left him off for a few reasons. One is I find it annoying when he sings in that high voice. I saw Prince live twice and he was great.
