It's a good basic introduction of a subject that should be considered very deeply. But I'd rather go a couple of steps further, first of all not forgetting to mention Europe as part of the Rimland and, secondly, not imagining that Aghanistan (or Ukraine) are strictly Rimlander countries, but at the very least overlap their geography with the Heartland. More importantly, I'd speak of "Rimlands", plural, rather than a unified geography. This is because for us Eurasians (i.e. Asians with Europe as subcontinent and not a fully distinct "continent", which it is not) the US-centric approach has to be considered as biased. It is clear that the Rimlands are various regions, I'd talk of three "major Rimland regions": East Asia (mostly China), South Asia (mostly India) and Europe, and two pivotal secondary regions: SE Asia and West Asia (alias Middle East). This is because of population and industrial/economic potential, relative unification and the possibility of becoming a global superpower (which China has pretty much achieved already but India and Europe have not... yet). I'd think that, if the three Major Rimlands become powers on their own right (China and India are already there, Europe not because of division and US subservience), the role of the other two regions (Heartland = Russia+, "island" Sea Power = USA) should be seriously diminished.
@@TheGeoecologist - TY for appreciating. I just discovered your channel via this video and seems good enough for a subscription. Do you have something on the role of Africa? Because it's like the piece nobody knows how to label...
