  • Let's Get Lost (1989) is a documentary on the life of jazz trumpeter, vocalist, drug addict Chet Baker, dead at 58 in Amsterdam. Fascinating series of interviews with friends, family associates and lovers, interspersed with film from Baker's earlier life and some modern-day performances.

I feel like the random cuts from the bumper cars to him in his room while his roughed out voice sings this song is just a perfect way to resemble what his life turned into.
He could use drugs and do meaningless things that seemed fun at the time, but then go back to the reality of emptiness and solitude. His horn being the only thing to accompany him on a messy bed that represents his reality, someone who's worn out and hasn't fixed themselves up. His voice sounding worn out by all the drugs he put in himself-Singing a song about how unlucky he is with not just life, but about how he fell in love with the wrong person.
I just feel like it all illustrates the feeling of being in the gutter to the point where things seem meaningless, and it all comes down to the same things that made him. His trumpet and drug abuse.

We all think we're saying such brilliant stuff when we're wasted and stoned. Truth is we're just talking shit, and our brain is Swiss cheese. Even sadder when you are a brilliant, respected horn player like Baker.

    Everything happens to me(1961)
    Lyrics :
I make a date for golf, you can bet you life it rains
I try to give a party, the guy upstairs complains
I guess, I'll go through life catchin' colds and missin' trains
    Everything happens to me
I never miss a thing, I've had measles and the mumps
every time I play my ace, my partner always trumps
I guess, I'm just a kind, who never looks before he jumps
    Everything happens to me
At first, my heart thought, you could break this jinx for me
That love would turn the trick to end my despair
But now, I just can't fool this head that thinks for me
I've mortgaged all my castles in the air
I've telegraphed and called, I sent, air mail special too
You answer was goodbye and there was even postage due
I fell in love just once and then it had to be with you
    Everything happens to me

In my opinion I wouldn't call it worse,
mouth injury and he was older

@@isaiahbell5689 Agreed, after being beaten within an inch of his life, his voice was just different. Think most of his teeth were even knocked out. He had to learn to sing all over again, and in a different way.
Where once he sounded smooth, youthful and romantic, his older voice sounded more melancholic, injured, and somehow wisened.
