Pilgrimage to Mecca, 1928. Silent film made on a Pilgrimage from Indonesia to Mecca for the Hajj
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 жов 2018
- This silent film by G. Krugers is a rare personal documentary of a pilgrimage in 1928 from Indonesia (then the Dutch East Indies) to Mecca in the Arabian peninsula. Krugers' commentary in texts on screen gives the documentary a direct appeal. It is a reflection of the rich and shared cultural heritage of the Netherlands, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. To make this unique film accessible to English-speaking audiences we have translated all the written texts.
You can read more on the film, find original historic photographs of Mecca and Jeddah and discover more shared history stories on issuu.com/tvculture
I've been Muslim for over 20years now....praise be to Allah
Now...? What went wrong
Masha'Allah, may Allah bless you and your family.
Subhanallah, may Allah protect you and your family.
MashaAllah, may Allah give steadfastness to Islam
And I left Islam for over 25 years and I have no regrets.
Masha Allah. Our ancestors (great great great great grandma grandpa) spent months to reach Mecca by sea and months to return home. May Allah bless their souls.
Now this holy pilgrimage is a billion dollar tourist business thanks to the greedy Saud family.
AAAMIIIN🤲
Nowadays we reach Makkah or Medina in matter of hours from any parts of world 🌍 but we still complain for delays because of weak Iman but our predecessors had strong 💪 Iman they’re we’re full of steadfast, forbearance, patience & waiting for reward, may all bless their souls & give them jannatul firdaus
ameen
This is why after this unbelievable journey , bearing so many hardships the pilgrims had the title attached to their name in subcontinent namely Haaji and Hajjan . Now I understand how big a deal that was and such a tough perilous journey . They surely had lots of faith more than the average pilgrim today . May Allah accept from them and us . Ameen
Even in Arab countries it's an honorary title. Now I understand why.
Or "Al Haj". Nowadays its much easier to do Haj and people still add it, but centuries back it was as tough as going to Mars today. There were inland travelers going from Xinjiang or Accra to Makkah by camel/donkey
What I saw in this video is exactly like what my great great grandparents and my grandparents always told us their story about their pillgrimage journey to Mecca in the era of Dutch East Indies. I love listening to their story which my father told us. Even my great great grandmother passed away in the holy land.
May Allah bless them and all of us and gather us together in His Jannatul Firdaus.☝️ Allahumma Ameen..🕋🕌
@@shahnawaz-cg5vl Thank you Ameeen.
Thanks for U suggestion Bro..
Warm regard from Indonesia...
Hi @holissarbeni2652 My research group is collecting older photos of Mecca and especially of Kaa'ba. If your grandparents have old pictures, could we please connect and discuss the details, please?
It is a privilege to be buried in this Holy City.
What a sacrifices they made, unbelievable, May Allah accept from them. Puts our world in such a different context.
Thank you very much for this video. I am 71 y.o and my great grandmother went from Iraq for Haj. It took one year to be back.
Why so long time

People in those days, went through hardship just to complete their hajj. Allah will grant them reward. Now, 2022 Hajj is very easy and so much changes compared to before, for the pilgrims.
Even though hajj is completely easy in year 2023 but people still not happy & complain because of lack of Iman, but those days people wen through soo much hardships but did hajj in patience & steadfast because they hard strong 💪 Iman
Their Dua and strength in faith is what led to the modern world we now live in, thanks to our forefathers
Ga kebayang ya. Skrg aja naik bus Mekkah ke Madinah aja liat medannya gurun, gunung2 batu seluas mata memandang kalau siang puanas bgt kalau malam dingin buanget. Luar biasa perjuangan mereka. Pulang2 levelnya kyai x yak.

Great video which shows how difficult and arduous the Hajj was a mere 100 years ago. We should never complain of minor inconveniences when we go on Hajj and Umrah. Our forefathers endured way more hardship to fulfill this duty and were extremely patient.
It's also sad to realize that every soul in this video, babies to old people, are long gone to the Hereafter. We will be too, sooner or later Insha'Allah, so let's earn as many good deeds as possible while the clock is ticking.
100 years ago our fathers, grandparents had 100 times stronger iman & Amal than us with no complaints even they’re hard soo much difficulties but us we complain even because of pinch of salt because of weak iman & much less conscious of Allah than our predecessors 100 years ago
Thank you for sharing this video, it is almost 100 years ago! On 1928 more than 50% foreign hajj pilgrims are from Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), sailed thousands kilometer by sea.
Yes I am not a Muslim. But the video is very very interesting taking us back to nearly 100 back into passage of time. Whatever your name or country or religion, struggles to remain alive have always been a reality. Our ancestors have seen so much struggle to get even a meagre luxury.
do you find it tragic what the Saudi royal family have done to mecca in recent years? the city and streets that Muhamed himself lived in and saw was knocked down and replaced by modern day skyscraper and that horrid clock tower.
Lovely reading your message, I would suggest you get a copy of Quran and start reading you will find great comfort in reading the final revelation from God Almighty Allah. I'm loving the message of Quran and love reading it again and again.

As the populations have skyrocketed, the modernization is necessary to meet the demand of the people . I personally would loved to see Mecca and Madina looks beautiful more than anywhere else in the world.
@@thunderstorm4074 European countries are good at keeping thier own town centres pretty original without much demolishing of historic buildings. the Saudis just did not care.

Masya Allah. That's why Indonesian pilgrimage family must be ready lost their family who went to Mecca for hajj. Proud of them at that hard and great time. Barakallah for them all.
Reminds me about my grandparents .. 😭 I miss them.. may Allah accept all their deeds
@@speedrider1393 I dont remember it exactly, but it must be when I was in elementary school around 7 yo so it was 17 years ago
My grand mother reached Jeddah by ship to perform Hajj. May Allah give Jannah to her. Amen.
Mashallah...I'm so grateful this video is made possible for our generation to view! Much appreciated those who took the silent video and shared it for the persent generation to see... thank you so much!
After watching this video I can experience virtually what my great great grandfather went through during their hajj pilgrimage journey a century ago.
My Grandfather went in ship for Haj in the 30s. Must’ve been almost like that looking then.
Same my mom said they eat dried rice for food bcs how long it takes & they from indonesia too
As-salamu alaykum (السلام عليكم) me and my wife just back from Umrah and was an amazing time, in some ways watching this video I am in a sense jealous of the journey they took, seems to be more of a ritual then the way we do t today, just boarding a plane then a bus.
Masha Allah thanks for uploading
.every moment ...hardships.. Allah accept their ibadha..
Amin ya rabbana alamin
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
This is an amazing footage and view of Hajj. For those of us whom have been blessed by
Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala to have performed this great pilgrimage, this is indeed humbling to view. Knowing our travels by Plan, Car and all the other amenities of comfort pale in comparison to what our brothers and sisters almost 100 years ago endured to perform this pillar of our deen.
In an authentic hadith,
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The Umrah pilgrimage to the following Umrah will expiate whatever sins were committed between them, and the blessed Hajj pilgrimage has no reward other than Paradise.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1683, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1349. Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi (authenticity agreed upon) according to Al-

May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala accept the Hajj of all those on this video. May Allaah Azza wa Jal grant Jannah (Paradise) to all those whom are in this video who have preceded us.. Indeed Allah is most merciful and kind.
Masya Alloh..... perjuangan dan perjalanan panjang haji jaman dahulu..... Allohuakbar Allohuakbar.....
It is exactly what my father told me what pilgrimage looks like back then in the old days. I'm shivering.
Masya Allah.. Alhamdulillah for this rare footage of Indonesians doing the Pilgrimage for the Hajj in 1920's. As an Indonesian, I have to admit that local people were and are (still ) not very good on keeping and managing the documentation. Documentation like this is so important.
May Allah accept all their ibadah. Such difficult times they had to endure. Yet we moan about small issues today.
what a beautiful and culturally rich film, very grateful for the uploading.
Masha Allah. I pray that the pilgrimage of every Hajji was accepted.
This is treasure. Subhanallah ❤
I have left islam and now feel more peaceful...each to his own
SubhanAllah this is so perfect to watch after breaking the fast for Ramadan May Allah swt have mercy and forgive the sins errors and shortcomings and grant Jannah Firdous to all the believers in this film and the believers past present future and now insha Allah Ya Allah how simple life was may they have ease in the grave filled with sweet smells and light as far as the eye can see
Priceless footage !
Subhanallah this was beautiful to watch, I want to thank this brother who made this film back in those days, this might have cost him fortune but I'm glad that filmed this, thanks to his efforts we, the future generations can get a glimpse of the history and I also want to thank the owner of this UA-cam channel for uploading this film, it was so informative and interesting to watch how our forefathers performed Hajj, what kind of difficulties they had to go through back in those days while travelling to different locations in that awful heat of the dessert, in comparison to what these people went through, today's Hajj pilgrimage has been made so easy and convenient for everyone, that's why we should always be grateful to Allah for every comfort and convenience that he has provided us in today's world, Inshallah someday I want to perform Hajj or Umrah
Mashaallah, you were truly an explorer if you could performed hajj during those times. My great great grandfather and others took around 6 months to 1 year journey from Indonesia to Mecca and back. And with the technology back then, I cant imagine how to bring camera and its films safely...Respect!
Subhan Allah for this treasure film I really felt like I was traveling on this unforgettable trip, and this is such a great testimony for all...Bismillah Rabbana ALLAH SWT accepts all The Hajj Pilgrims efforts and grants them all Jannah Al Firdous with HIS Mercy Ameen Ameen Ameen ya rabb!
Masha Allah Allah is Great...I am cry to see this video, may Allah forgive our sins and our parents and ancestor, all moslem and mukmeeneen, for the live and for the dead, and granted them all heaven of paradise in hereafter.... aameen
*ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL video!* ❤
My dear and beloved brothers and sisters, these are our ancestors and how they lived their noble lives, hardship&struggles never stopped them from living a modest life.
Let act and embrace the legacy our ancestors left for us...😥😥😢😭
I know its not easy but lets keep away from this so called modern world, and maintain our ancestral dignity. ❤❤❤

Thanks Allah Sobhana wa Taallah! Now performing Hajj rituals has become very easy. Many facilities have been provided since! M. Sadeq from Afghanistan!
Sad part is everyone on these clips are all dead. Life’s short use ur time wisely
Even sadder than that is, there are comment in this video by people who are dead now.
Some of the little children may be alive..
Adakah video lama menarik lainnya tentang mekkah & madinah ? 🕋
Now I can feel how my great grandparents pilgrimed to Mecca during those days around.
Wow all travelled there because history and fortune tells them to…. Not a smart phone or social media. May Almighty Allah swt accept their Hajj and their descendants insha Allah. My blessings to you all wherever you may be
Alhamdolillah Jazakallah, it is my fortune to watch this priceless vdo and amazing to know how Hajj was performed nearly a century back. From Mumbai India.
If only we could go back further see what it was like at the time of our Prophet pbuh
that is exactly what i always thought of whenever i read about that era or watch videos of holy ka'ba...
What a typical life now days
People's are totally Enjoying the every event of the life
No words to comment, the film maker has left the world, but his legacy will live for ever, thanks for uploading this video which speaks and show reality of the past
it was the time when my great grandparents went to macca from jakarta. Mashaallah
Amazing to see how the pilgrimage was extremely hard, needs a lot of physical efforts and strength for a long hard journey compared to these days. Those Muslims who are blessed to take this journey as those in the film are different kind of generation that have strong faith, patient and great ability to adapt to the hardship of the journey May Allah bless their souls and grant them abundant rewards, Ameen. Thank you for sharing this marvelous human experience.
this video show to us how sacrifice them to reach Mekkah. Subahanallah.. may Allah bless them and granted them Jannah.
My Dad was 11when this all happened....he was in his late 40's...in 1964 a school teacher in California....and also took world trip on Ships around the world....my grandmother his mother told me about when there were no cars in USA!
Different but simpler, good times nonetheless.
For those who wonder what Khai means,it supposed to read "Kiai"
It is a title given to muslim clerics in Indonesia, similiar to syaikh in arab world
This is a Jewel…. Masterpiece of History.
This is a treasure. This was an extraordinary journey, I'm sure for some it cost them their life savings just to go to Mecca, to perform this obligatory pilgrimage. May Allah have mercy on their souls and accept their good deeds.
Very sad moment of the man at 1:11:27 died on his way back to home and was thrown in the ocean.
Thanks TVCulture for this upload !
that one person who passed away on their way back from hajj, and the ppl washing his body, wrapping him in his ehram and praying janazah for him. lowering him gently underwater,,,, at 1:10:39 ..... i know technically none of these ppl are alive anymore but that made me tear up so much. imagine at the end of ur long long life u become as pure as a baby and then pass away on the harrowing, reward filling journey back. may Allah bless him, and all these hajis, and all of us and grant us all the death of a believer, aameen summa aameen
Masyaa Allah.. Para pejuang haji di kala itu, sulit namun tetap semangat mengejar ridho Allah.. Semoga para alm. diterima amal ibadah dan ditempatkan di tempat terbaik di sisi Mu Ya Allah.. Aamiin
awesome work thank you for uploading it
That's very nice.. real histories..
MashaAllah ... all those efforts.. May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaus .. Aameen 🤲
20000 tents was translated to 2000 tents and stones were thrown next to kaaba was wrong as well but sad the houses of Prophet companions were not shown . But thankful and grateful to those who have posted this film.
