Sounds awesome ! I'm in the process of doing the same to my MK1 Rabbit mind giving me some insight on what your setup is for fueling (R1 pump?) and for spark? Did you end up needing a different distributor?

Hi Chris, I kept the original MK1 Golf GTI fuel injection fuel pump and used a fuel pressure regulator to reduce the pressure to circa 3bar, any excess fuel is returned to the fuel tank via the return fuel line. You can still keep all the original ignition system, including distributor, ecu etc. :-)

Fantastic, I've been doing research but could never quite find a clear answer some people were messing with Saab distributors and the works. Mines just a 1.8 so ill probably start with a bit smaller mains, have you had any problems with heat soak from the exhaust manifold? Sorry for all the questions its hard to find good info sometime and its nice to see a similar engine (not a 16v) running so well.

Chris Hiscock Never had any problems with heat soak. The exhaust manifold is heat wrapped and the inlet manifold has a aluminium sheet heatshield. Plus there are two cold air feed directly to the air filter which also keeps the air temp down.

did you take this to the rollers maybe at some point to see how much power you got? how does it compare to the stock 1.8 kjet? trying to spice up my mk1 gti, and considering the bike carbs to keep it "old school". this setup of yours seems to be quite a perfect option
