- This is my review of the Harbor Freight 9" bench top band saw. This is NOT a paid or sponsored review. I've owned the band saw for about 2 years now, and decided to share my thoughts just in case anyone else was considering it.

Good review - good info - ignore those knuckleheads who don't like your camera presence - you ain't going for a freakin' academy award...
I own the exact same model bandsaw .... voided the warranty on mind day 1 and they knew about it before I even got it out of the store.
"Wait ... you're going to cut STONE with that thing???"
yup, don't need a warranty, it wont be back!
I have personally destroyed 15 of their metal-cutting blades with my bandsaw cutting through soapstone and alabaster in order to rough out my lathe blanks. :)
For cutting wood ... I went to the best. TimberWolf.
Make sure you set your blade tracking so that the GULLET of the blades track on the crown in the center of the wheel for best cutting and the least possible drift. Other things that can affect blade drift are having a dull blade or having your guides set incorrectly or improper blade tension.
For just roughing work, grab a 3tpi blade ... you'll have good fast cutting through your wood stock. Also for ripping and re-sawing of your wood stock, or cutting green wood stock into blanks and boards, though the capacity of the bandsaw is a little low. I have had some great success in using my bandsaw for ripping and milling raw branches into usable stock ... I can also easily microwave kiln-dry my wood in small batches, but it's a lot easier on my nerves to just put them in my dehydrator overnight.
For fine woodworking get a 6tpi to 10tpi blade for the best finish before sanding. Use this blade count for cutting things like plastic sheet or acrylic stock for pen blanks and boxes, ect ...
For metal cutting (aluminum, brass, iron, THIN un-hardened steel (1/16th or so) you can use the 14tpi blade from harbor freight ... I also use this for cutting rock. If you use this for cutting boxes and your wood is the least bit resiny or the blades are the tiniest bit dull, you'll end up with burn marks.
How good are these saws with foamboard insulation?
goldberg chews it up and spits foam dust everywhere... horrible.
Make or get a hot cutting foam knife (the electrical one, using a steel wire for the cutting element... check out the king of random videos for the foam cutter build he does!)
LMFAO, I like this video because he gives good info on the product. Another reason why I like it is because I couldn't stop laughing, he looks like he's being held at gun point and forced to make this review. HAHAHA EPIC!
All About Boxing haha
its like the saw touched him inappropriately right before he started filming.
-Could you do a review of this bandsaw?
-Sure.
-Could you do it as Mr. Blonde from Reservoir Dogs?
-No problem.
LOL I was just about to leave a comment saying it looked like ISIS was forcing him promote the saw. You beat me to the joke. ... a year ago
It was nice to see a real person talking like i was there, instead of putting on a show for likes and money.
This machine is 98% identical to the Ryobi band saw. They have to be built by the same factory. I think Wen, Ryobi and Central Machinery are all the same factory.
Thanks I didn't know that. I have been looking at the Ryobi but I can get this one for $50 less!
I Believe you are correct. They all seem very Similar for Sure.
Just picked one of these up. Glad to hear its lasted you so long. Thanks for the review!
Great review. Going grab one of those. Thanks.
can you show how to change the ball bearings? I can't get them lose to change them. TY
Hi there, I bought ozito 8" band saw and it has 55.1" blade length and i am planning to buy extra blade for it but my problem is i only see 56.5" blade length in the market, do you thnk it will fit to my band saw?
I just bought a 10" craftsman bandsaw, its great, but i still want the HF 9" because i can see its a solid saw for the money. The same is true of the HF 14". That thing is built like a tank. All cast iron and heavy gauge sheet metal.
Does it come with a fence?
I have the same saw and mine binds up a lot. What do you recommend?
Is it binding up in the pulleys or where the blade passes through the table? Either way, I would first look at keeping it clean on the inside. If saw dust makes its way in between the blade and the pulley wheels, it will allow slipping of the blade and could cause the blade to bind while cutting. Also, you should never force material into a bandsaw blade while cutting. Use light to moderate pressure and allow the blade to do the cutting.
Savvy Saving Couple when I try to cut through a two by four even a straight cut it will bind. I back off and every time I make contact with the blade again it binds up. I ordered a blade from Olson and I want to see if that helps. Thank you for your suggestion. I'm going to also clean the inside of the saw.
Wally Kellett I've never used mine for anything that thick, usually I cut 2×4s with a miter saw. I only use this for cutting thin stuff like cedar shingles or aluminum square tubing, and it does a good job with those things. Maybe this thing ain't meant to cut through thick material?
that's great advice for any tool power or otherwise
@@JaredDesrosiers JaredAmy i have the same one got it 3 years ago aet it up last year tryed to cut on a straight line lol but it would not stay straight on the line i watched you on the Video you did it what am i doing wrong
62" blades
i bought 62" way to small
This was a helpful demonstration! Thank you.
So why do they call it 9” if it only cuts less than 3” thick? I don’t get it.
The distance between the blade and column is 9". You can cut up to 9" wide.
@@JaredDesrosiers Is it common to find ones that cut 6" or 8" thick?
Yes, but they are larger free standing bandsaws. This one is benchtop, so it's a smaller capacity. Harbor freight makes a large saw and so do many other brands.
Three inch is the "depth of cut". 9 inch is the distance from the blade to the back of the machine, the widest board you can cut.
Can you cut metal with it if you have a different blade?
You would need to slow the rpm down somehow and use a fine tooth blade.
You can use3 a high TPI blade and squirt a little oil on your cuts.
you are a total riot, i loved your attitude and real world expressions. thanx for the info too.
Thanks! 😎
Just picked one up from FB market place with a table for $60
Thanks for the review. I'm thinking of buying one and you gave a very objective review.
This looks like the ryobi which looks like the craftsman
They are probably all the exact same model. just repainted and rebranded. This is very common with cheap chinese crap. Wen, Grizzly and a lot of other companies sell stuff like this.
Amazing how many band saws are made by the same Chinese company and re-branded.
Can you cut metal at all?
You could get away with cutting some thin soft metal flashing or aluminum- very carefully though…
When u say “carefully”, is that cause the hp is too low to manage cutting thin aluminum? Or does it just need the right blade? I’ll be cutting thin aluminum.
Great video. Thanks
No, thank you!
I couldn't put my finger on it...the earlier comment that this guy looks like someone's got a gun on him is perfect!!! Guy behind the cameras got a lead pipe or something...this guy is under duress!
I think he’s just uncomfortable on video.. lol
The band saw keeps falling off help anyone?
Inside the top cover is a knob that can be turned to adjust the blade tracking. Turn the knob either left or right with the blade turning and watch it find the center of the pulley.
I have one just like it and it takes a 62" blade.
I made sled for mine works great
I'm Mahk, and this is a wicked saw.
don't you mean sawr? 😂😂😂😂
I wuz expecting any moment for Cheech Lamara from the Sopranos to whack da guy, ya know what I'm sayin"?
Great sauw review
Nice review. Some stupidity here in the comment section, but nice review. Thank You!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
62” blade..
He goes through every face from Zoolander
UFC Carlos Condit, nice job
*Making a hardwood fence for the miter makes all the difference **MyBest.Tools** Tune the saw with a combination square. Adjust the laser so its in line.😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣See the photos.Every part in this saw is adjustable.😎😭*
No battery for this saw
does it cut steel
gene myers I haven't tried cutting steel but you could probably cut thin gauge stuff if you buy a 24 tpi blade. I probably wouldn't cut anything thicker than 1/8" though. This saw isn't really made for cutting ferrous metals.
Thank you that is helpful
gene myers Not a problem. Unless you're looking to cut steel sheet or plate, you could always pick up a portable band saw from HF for about $100. I didn't like their portaband so I bought a $300 Milwaukee, but many people do like it. It's for stock like rod, pipe, tubing, and angle, and it'll cut through steel no problem (but you have to buy the 24 tpi blade separate).
Thanks I'll keep that in mind
You never cut steel on a wood bandsaw The Rpm's are to high you would get hurt bad! Dont listen to any dumb ass who tells you different No matter what blade porta bands run at a much slower rpm for a reason
Don't buy bandsaw blades from Harbor freight, they are paper thin. Overall the 9" bandsaw is a great investment...
I got it for $80
Band sur
Man, you need to clean up the fine sawdust throughout your shop. It's flammable. A fire hazard. Sparks from the brushes inside one of your motors could ignite it. A neighbor down the street (making wooden Christmas gifts) is now in a motel waiting for his house to be repaired. Insurance didn't cover it. By the way, for those just shopping, check out the WEN 3960 9-in Band Saw. It's better.
Maybe next time you should be better prepared to do a review, jmo.
