And Lin Chung is like Mario or at least that typical Gary Stue like hero, who wins every battle, is the best at basically everything, everyone (except the enemies of course) likes him, has a tragic backstory (death of his master) and as long he's on the screen, he's definitely (except it's a special episode with focus on another character) going to save everyone. No seriously, even if the situation defeated HIS WHOLE CREW, LC will safe the day. Sorry, this shouldn't be some "rant" about the character itself, I just think it's funny how, well, "cliché" some characters are shown. XD
that kinda proves that these animals are jerks say that they're stupid enough to believe highruler and hate humans apetruly is not a human they don't have any reason to treat him like this
1:18-1:21 you could see him smiling. All proud, thinking they would like his art... And as soon as he showed it, the smile turned upside down.. Am I the only one that thinks this is so relatable?
I sometimes have breakdowns when I get an essay back, I thought I did real good, and it comes back average or worse. The toxic reason behind this, is mostly not because the per se concept. Aka "someone doesn't like your art /the essay is bad". It is more what you subconsciously connect to it. Most of the time, we identify through our work. Take Lin Chung for example: While not per se given any depth, he most likely is used to being the Top A of...everything. His whole backstory (comics) is about him getting trained for that. So when his drawings are rejected, it's not "it's bad because you are a beginner" for him. Instead, the mental message his brain creates is "Your work is bad = you are bad". Furthermore, sharing our ideas is often something intimate: We reveal parts of ourselves. So when someone -especially close to us - laughs at us or makes us look silly, we feel betrayed, embarrassed and guilty. Hence the big difference between "positive, productive critique", which expresses downsides but keeps it empathetic, and "you're just a blunt asshole" critique, which just says "you suck".
His drawings aren't bad. After all, art is within the eye of the beholder, art is what happens when one learns to dream. For those who can't draw very well, just know: Practice makes perfect.
Yeah, but somehow this took away a lot of his character individuality, if you ask me. Like, he's (one of ) the best warriors, always saves the group (if there is no current focus on another character), is loved and respected by everyone (except by the enemies and M.R., who sometimes envies him for being so perfect), is "the chosen one", aka, has the powers of harmony, has a "great" personality (no asshole-syndrome) and can just LEAVE in the middle of the battle/the mission, or the squad in general and everybody is just like "oh, well that's sad" and when he comes back, they move on without hitting him on the head once, for endangering everyone. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to say, that he shouldn't have improved at all, I just think it would have been better, if it would at least just be less extreme. Like, at the beginning, he clearly draws all messy and scribbly, but in the end, instead of just being "Well BOOM BITCHES LOOK AT ME I'M PERFECT AGAIN!", he could draw a little bit better, like, normal level drawing. Especially since this is (mainly) a kids show, his struggling to improve, would have been a better message, and portrayal of LC itself:"See? He isn't perfect, because he just is, he trains and tries to improve all the time, even maybe he'll never be able to draw on a high level, but that's okay, because he just likes to draw." But hey, I'm not the creator, so maybe I miss the joke here, since I'm just some weird person, with to much time to spend.
Lin Ching. His journey from really bad amateur to a masterful inventor of the esthetic arts. This isnt a joke, he invented animation in this show and even 3D. It's kinda poetic that they made such a character who started as one of the most awful artist into one of the greatest. Good message for those who want to be good at something they are not.
Its a pretty formulaic show but its done well like phineas and ferb. My only problem is that its always Chung that does the good. I'd love it if Sonya or mighty ray could get more of that but... eh.

@@baronvonraven9323 Surprising as fuck, but yes. Hardcore fan here. Tbf it's just kinda sad they One Punched him in that skill too. Lin Chung is already depicted as the ultimate hero: Can do everything right, always the saviour, never gets startled, always the most mature one -and if he isn't, that's just mildly mourned & ignored. His lack of drawing skills had been the first positive "negative trait" depiction that made him feel grounded. It would have been nice if the episode had ended instead with the message "it's fine to have bad work -we're all beginners". Like, letting camel king cry not because it was so beautiful, but because he got reminded of his roots or something. And then, slowly, show LCs drawings get better in the show. Never to the point of "absolute greatness", but "it's okay".
@@katziliaf while I do agree with what you said, I feel like the early episodes already had shown some negative traits with Lin Chung that made him feel more grounded. He gets distracted very easily and will often forget about battle or the mission entirely to focus on something else. Plus we’ve seen him get angry and depressed before showing how even though he’s this skilled warrior he still give into his emotions. I think your idea for an alternate ending to this episode is definitely better though
@@cameravice1825 I can see your point. What I meant with my comment, was basically a very short explanation of the "Gary Stu" syndrom, which Lin Chung underwent. To explain this way: A very key problem of any writing, is that a good character isn't showcased by just having "any" bad traits. But by which traits and how the writing deals with it. Like, how do other characters react to it? What's the impact? How does this affect the "reality" of the show. Lin Chung is a Gary Stu. Aka a female Mary Sue. While mostly known to be the cliché power fantasies of 13-14yo children, the phenomena is actually defining a character that is unbalanced. Aka their developement is often just "power +", theif flaws are either excused or very ignored (or it's attractive, like a female heroine being "clumsy") and if anyone calls them out, it's only bad guys and jealous antagonists. Now let's look at LC. The main problem -but also potential - of LC was that he was basically the "Ace warrior" idea. He ALREADY was nearly undefeatable (Ghost ship), the top of the crop, very intelligent and...well...cute. Lol. Overall, he was basically the cartoon version of the Star Football (or other sport) Champ. Most people -children AND adults - dislike perfect characters. Because no one's perfect. When painting was introduced, it was a trait able to peel away LC's staleness. His clear unperfectness made him approachable. It made him dorky. Showed him emotional. He was not an all achievable perfect robot...but just a guy. Over the series, while still somewhat joked at the beginning, this trait quickly falls flat. He comes constantly late, but is never truly reprimanded. The one time he literally betrays his teammates, his actions are justified, because he's the only one not getting crushed and "saving" them. Even though HE was the one who got them into that mess. Sure, he learns how to deal with his emotions...but not in an actual good writing way. We never have clear moments where he reflects on his problems. Maybe his upbringing. He just "has" less emotions. Overall: He just "gets" powers. And then not any power, but obv. the most OP power. Even before, it's always him that saves the day, even when it's seemingly not about him. E.g. the animal collector. The episode openend up with a conflict between the zebras. A seemingly great episode that could make the zebras reflect on their relationship with High Roller & overall. But then it's LC who saves everyone, because...the solution is the juice of the fruit that he washes his paintbrushes with?? What? Okay. I see I'm getting a bit offtrack here. It's hard to explain this in short. But I think you get what I mean. Because...in the end, the problem with "bad negative traits (developement)" is the message you're sending. And not in the way that this is "just a kid's show" -but partially BECAUSE this is a kid's show. If you take it sarcastically, LC shows us that some people are just perfect. They will always be excused. Have little problems. And if you touch something and don't become a master in it after (idk let's be gracious and say...a year?), you're just really fucked up. A good developement, could have been LC maybe confronting his problem with pressure. Aka "burned gifted child syndrome" in which he has internalized the idea that he "has" to be the best. He has to be the best ALONE. If he fails, he's worthless (LC is overall VERY depression coded. Especially in the books). Through situations like painting, he doesn't learn how to excell, but to accept. Like...there's this whole theme about chaos & order. The show makes it that "chaos" is bad instead of being part of peace. To achieve peace, you have to ACCEPT and stabilize your personal chaos. You don't surpress your flaws -you accept you have them and then find ways to work around them. Hence my camel idea. The camel drives on perfection (shown in partially the obsession with Ape Truly's "perfect" form). He goes so far, as to punish humans for being "inferior artists". Instead of just chickening out that "well, its an own style...I guess?" the camel could have been a mirror to LC's inner feelings. LC could have been forced to see that everyone is bad at something at first. And that's fine. Because you're getting better. The camel might remember why he started drawing in the first place -because it was fun. Maybe it connected it to a former relative. Maybe their death made him obsessed with perfection till he lost himself. Showing how destructive that thought pattern can become. And a LOT of children who are forced by their parents to be over-achievers ("don't bring anything less than an A-!") would take value of hearing that. Everyone would take value of hearing that. (btw. sorry for the long comment. I am a fan, like I said. So I quickly ramble on)
