Nightwish was featured in a Metal Hammer magazine this year where Tuomas was asked to rank the album´s. I was surprised to find out his 3 top picks were also my favourite 3 in order. I must say though, it is a list that has changed a little in time and depending on how I feel. Human Nature was the first album I heard from Nightwish. Walking each late night in winter, I listened to it in total awe of what I was hearing. Shoemaker stopped me in my tracks and I just watched the stars above with goosebumps all over. I then discovered every album in backwards order. A magical journey that I know is a once in a lifetime.
It is cool that Tuomas' favourites are also yours, it goes to show that you appreciate his art just as much as he does. I think it is very interesting how your favourite Nightwish album is my least favourite, but I came from a completely different approach starting with much older material, which is very telling! But I completely appreciate your honesty and opinions here, Nightwish are a fantastic band that mean a great deal to so many people🤘 Your very heartfelt account of being so moved by Shoemaker has made me decide to revisit the album again with an open mind again in the very near future 🤘
@@nononsensemetalreviews Wow, thanks so much for that amazing response. Truth is Nightwish came into my life just when I needed them. Playing Human Nature every night helped me through a very tough period. My father was on the other side of the world fighting for his life after a cancer operation complication that caused sepsis. He very nearly died. Due to covid restrictions in Australia I couldn´t get back to see him unless I went into a 2 week quarantine period. I didn´t want to risk being stranded alone in a hotel if he passed away. The Human Nature album was the one thing that deeply helped me. This discovery of Nightwish was so life-changing and helped me immensely with me own situation too.
@laudatosiadastra1218 Nightwish and Human Nature must mean an immense amount to you my friend. It just goes to show how powerful and how important music is, it can guide us through the darkest and hardest of times 🤘
@@nononsensemetalreviews I went to Kitee last year and met Tuomas Holopainen. I told him how much I appreciate them. He was so humble. You are so right, music can guide us through the dark times. It can also bring so much joy - it´s a very personal connection at the deepest level.
@@laudatosiadastra1218 that is incredible that you got to meet Tuomas and that he was so humbled! His music is some of the most powerful sounds ever created 🤘
Nice Ranking ! Nightwish is an amazing band. Hope to see them live Once. Another great Symphonic Metalband is 'Epica'. They are a bit heavier than Nightwish. They incorporate 'Deathmetal' and 'Blackmetal' into their 'Symphonic' metal. You might like them too.
Thank you my friend! They are an incredible live performance, so hopefully you will get to witness one of the greatest shows on Earth one day! Epica are also an amazing band! I have had the pleasure of seeing them live too, they were amazing! The Quantum Enigma is personally my favourite Epica album 🤘
I stopped listening to NW after Imaginaerum, so I really appreciate your even handed review of their older stuff and newer stuff. I'll be sure to check out Endless Forms and relive my teenage years with Once and Century Child. I just subbed to your channel and am absolutely loving it!
Thank you for you kind words my friend and thanks for watching! I am glad you are enjoying the channel! I love Nightwish and found this ranking very challenging, but Endless Forms is a real standout for me. It does sound a little different to Once and Century Child, but it stands out in their excellent catalogue 🤘
@martinhulka8076 well my friend, that is a very good question.... Nightwish are certainly very different to the bands that you have mentioned there, except for perhaps the strong vocal qualities and progressive elements of Opeth, and the symphonic edge of Dimmu Borgir, but Nightwish are a superb band and very unique! If you enjoy stunning and powerful vocals, epic orchestration and Symphonics, with excellent riffs and guitar work, then I would definitely advise that you delve into Nightwish's stellar discography.... enjoy! 🤘
greetings from Greece :) that was a nice video you did :) I haven't heard the three most recent albums of the band, but from the albums I have heard my favorite is Once...I was surprised, in a bad way, to see Tarja leave the band...Annette Olzon isn't bad, but for another kind of metal, not symphonic metal...I haven't heard Floor Jansen yet...but I can't really think that she is better than Tarja, maybe she is better than Annette, but not better than Tarja...I will hear the last 3 albums of the band as soon as possible...
Century child Dark passion play Once Oceanborn Wishmaster Imaginaerum Endless forms most beautiful Angels fell first Human nature This is my rank. Nightwish is my favourite band,i do i love all the albums but some are more favourite to me and of course i have listened more than the others. Tarja's era is still my favourite, their albums are fantastic, acoustic, folk, power metal and symphonic metal, five great albums and don't forget one ep "over the hills and farway". Anettte's era is my second favourite era, two powerful albums with so beautiful songs and my third favourite era is with Floor, unfortunately i don't like so much the albums, they are good but not great, greatest show on earth is of course a masterpiece ,Elan,my Walden are beautiful but all the other are just ok. I hope the next one of the trilogy to be higher in my rank. I love them deeply and i saw this month my first concert by NW,i hope no my last for sure.
Thank you for sharing your Nightwish ranking my friend🤘 I find your ranking very interesting and it is fascinating to see how similar and yet so different our opinions of these beautiful albums can be! I agree that the Tarja era is still the greatest overall, those albums are so magical and special. I think that I connect with Endless Forms Most Beautiful so strongly because there are some incredible songs there that helped me during dark times, so I have a lot of sentimental connection to that album. That is great that you finally got to see Nightwish live! I hope to see them again one day too! 🤘
@@nononsensemetalreviews Many people connected with one album more,i can understand that,i met NW 😉 from century child album and yes it's first in my rank list still today.
1. Dark passion play 2. Wishmaster 3. Imaginaerum 4. Once 5. Oceanborn 6. Century child 7. Human Nature 8. Endless forms most beautiful 9. Angels fall first
Oceanborn by far and away, then imaginarium, then a mix of angels, once, century, most of wishmaster is bs and half of dark passion is bs and everything is complete dogshit after imaginarium. This charismatic stage performer new singer has carried NW, because of the songs from the 90's and early 2000's into new generations.
It's good to hear from another fan who holds these superb albums so close to their heart. I can understand why any Nightwish fan would not enjoy the Anette era, it is definitely my least favourite, but Anette is up against tough competition with Tarja and Floor!

The songs of Imaginaerum make more sense when you hear them in the film that goes with the album.
I can imagine that is the case, although I haven't heard too many positive reviews of the film either!
