FF7 is a damn near perfect game and one of my three favorite games ever depending on the day, but I think its one mis-step may have been making this fight too difficult. Emerald is very hard but he is beatable using standard tactics. Ruby is basically impossible to beat without using a strategy like this one, which while clever and effective, isn't very fun to do.
@@StrifeSoul990 you get the master summon materia for beating Emerald weapon and it has KOTR so I think you're meant to beat Emerald first then get that to defeat him.
I love the Ruby fight, it is so chaotic but at the same time not unfair, just challenging. I wish there were more fights like that in FF7...well, mostly there are actually, especially if you never powerlevel!
I found an easier way. 1. Yuffie w/ Conformer, the other party members KOed. 2. Two or more mastered Counter Attack materia on Yuffie - get them from Chocobo Square, farm at Mideel. 3. 5 hero drinks, get them from Chocobo Square or throughout the game. 4. 99 X-Potions. Farm at Wutai continent from flying yellow bug enemies. Appendix - if you feel like it, multiply Hero Drinks, X-Potions/Elixirs with W-Item glitch. 5. Yuffie has Ribbon and Fire Armlet, or Mystile (better) with Fire+Elemental mastered on it to absorb Ruby Flame. And some HP Plus to get 9999 HP. Enter battle. Ruby puts tentacles into the ground. Every time it hits Yuffie she'll counter attack. Everytime your HP goes below 9999 use an x-potion (or elixir once you run out) and let the counter attacks do the job for you. After 5 hero drinks Yuffie's attacks should be around 2000-4000 hp each. The more Counter Attacks you have the quicker and painless it'll be. Continue drinking x-potions to keep the HP at max so Ruby doesn't kill you and let the Coutner Attacks do the job. In about 80 turns or so it'll be dead. It's a slow tactic, but a surefire one. None of Ruby's attacks are capable of 9999 damage, so heal once the HP goes below full, while Counter Attacks on Conformer rip it to shreds. With this technique you can own Ruby's red a$$ as soon as you're done with Ultima weapon before Midgar on Disc 2. Booyah.
thanks to your vid, I was finally able to defeat Ruby weapon, something child me was not able to accomplish. AND I got the AP from that last round of Phoenix + KoTR. Your channel is my fave FF7 channel. You get right to the point and your instructions are clear and easy to understand. For anyone who wants the AP, might want to also equip your strongest magic user with quadra magic + Bahamut zero for insurance. The first time I tried this strategy, everything went smoothly. The 2nd + 3rd time, I either didn't have enough MP or my KoTR was not leveled up enough, Cloud wasn't able to cast that final round of KoTR after the Phoenix summon (KoTR was grayed out when I tried to W-Summon). So I spammed quadra magic + bahamut zero and mimed it. Finished the job, AP acquired.
Thanks so much glad I found this video, this strategy out of all the other ones saved me from way more grinding that I would've wasted my time on! This game is now my 100th platinum!
Great guide my friend, worked like a charm. It took a few tries with a level ~70 Cloud, Ruby was sometimes able to get a Ultima and Ruby Ray on me but I could barely survive that. But yeah, I haven't even touched the Northern Crater yet! I had to power level KOTR to 2, but that was easy grinding in Mideel with the speed up feature Reunion has.
KotR linked with Quad-Magic instead of KotR linked with HP Absorb kills the claws before Ruby's Stop status fades, so it never gets a chance to deal any damage to you.
honestly i used god mode combined with this as i forgot the hp absorb and i have to admit ruby has never been fun but atleast being able to spam KOTR with no worries is honestly just cathartic as its just not a fun time.
Worked like a charm. Thanks man. Now gonna level up my Counter Materia and then go after Emerald. I nearly died in 1 round because Ruby tried to hit me with an Ultima but he MISSED! I was like 'he missed??' Then a tentacle hit me for around 4k damage but luckily my turn was up and I went and did the mime and I was healed. Finished all the way with no problem.
you dont need hades at all. double kotr is perfect as it heals you up to max and ruby weapon can only attack once before you mine w-summon kotr and heal yourself back up again to max. Also hero drink helps hitting the damage cap every hit on top of the magic materia
Modified this way slightly, as had beaten emerald weapon first following that guide. So used the master summon with hp absorb. Than first round did Hades and phoenix summons. Than had one characters use megaelixir and other use dazzer to keep them healed and stunnrd. Than main character double summoning Knights of the round as can do that infinitely.
There's just a small error in this video: Ruby doesn't cast its Whirlsand ability if the tentacles are on the field, so one could revive the two other party members as their first action... (but that just complicates using the Hades+Knights+Mime strategy)
Thanks again for these tip videos haha. Trying to platinum ff7 now that im finished ff8 and this boss always evaded me. Currently sitting through the KotR animation for the 4th time haha. V helpful as always 👍
cloud lvl 99 , link revive+finalattack (FA), KotR (Max) + FA, KotR (max)+FA, HPMP Max, HP plus (if needed), enter fight with only cloud alive, go make a coffee or watch a show, come back after 15-20min. win. Leave, seek Emerald materia, equip underwater materia prior, continue your show. Come back. Easy.
I found the easiest way to defeat Ruby weapon was to defeat emerald weapon first. You'll receive master summon materia. Which means you can use endless Knights of the Round against Ruby. And if you give Cloud 4 Hero drinks, each knight will do practically 9999 damage.
strategy i just used on emerald and ruby: kotr+ HP absorb/ mime+counter. started with kotr and when he counters with ultima i used mime and it was an endless back and forth with him spamming ultima and me countering with kotr until he died.
I just had a thought: Ruby and Emerald Weapons actually remind me of the last two monsters fought by Ultraman Great in the show "Ultraman: Towards the Future". Their names are Kilazee and Kodalar. Kilazee has the strongest resemblance to Ruby Weapon, but Kodalar has a few things in common with Emerald Weapon, such as appearing in the ocean and retaliating with laser attacks. Both of them, like the Weapons, also exist to purge Earth of human life to restore the natural order, should the need arise.
1 party member, dazers, w item, KOTR, and Elixirs or megaelixirs got the job done pretty easily and pretty quickly. The outcome was never in doubt. In my honest opinion Emerald is harder to beat Ruby just is harder to figure out without a guide but BOTH are easy when u know what to do.
Honestly I always tried to master mime to get it on all characters so that what I got the AP on all characters, same for emerald. Throw on triple weapon for both to limit Emeralds damage, and go ham.
I beat Ruby by learning enemy skill "Big Guard" - Came into fight with just Cloud alive - W-item dazers on Ruby and phoenix down on red. I revived Red who had a ribbon like me - Red cast "Big Guard" - Cloud cast KOTR (I had hp absorb linked with KOTR) - Red mime KOTR - When BIG GUARD wore off, w-item dazers phoenix down again - red cast big guard - cloud KOTR, red mime and I beat him!!!! I ended up needing 9 KOTR to beat Ruby, i was attacking at 7k per knight, red 6k per knight. I beat emerald just about the same way except i had mime linked to counter (the blue one) not purple counter or counter magic. The counter you get in the shining light in the northern cave. I had that mastered. Both red and cloud had mime/counter. Beat Emerald with about 15 seconds left
There is a better way to do this using the counter and magic counter materia linked with mime materias. That way you don’t even have to input anything after the first cast if you don’t want to, it will automatically counter with mime
This is really a very easy strat for Ruby!! In ‘97 it took me quite a longer time..why did u use the Ultima Weapon for the fight, because u need the exp points against Emerald?? Thx Fuzz👍🏻
Hades is key! I think I’ll try a twist on this. HP absorb KOR. MIME WSUMMON. PHEONIX. Use triple growth items. Max out materia slots. Summon hades pheonix. Then hades KOR. MIME x3
If you link KotR with Quad-magic instead of HP Absorb, the claws die before Ruby's Stop status fades and you never take any damage in the entire fight.
@@aic8326 You're right, I'm not sure what I was thinking when typing that. My strat was W-Summon Quad-Hades and KotR (which may or may not have been linked with HP-Absorb, I don't remember for certain, but it doesn't matter for Ruby because it never gets to counterattack) and then Mime that until Ruby dies.
Hahahahaaaa fuck i totally forgot to equip cloud with a ribbon, couldn't figure out why i was dying hahaha, didn't notice the timer above his head 😂 i feel so stupid!
For whatever reason, Hades doesn't feel like paralyzing Ruby, so this strategy isn't working for me. To clarify: Hades will paralyze Ruby Weapon the first time it's used, but he doesn't want to do it again. The problem might be that Ruby is already paralyzed, but hitting a target with the same status does not "reset" the timer on that status, as it were. If that's the case, and I suspect that it is, then this strategy requires precision timing.
Yeah, the Stop status that Hades inflicts on Ruby doesn't last for long, and it doesn't refresh upon a new cast of Hades while Ruby is still Stopped. Stop needs to fade before you can re-apply it. The only important thing to keep the combo going is to only use Mime while Ruby's claws are in the ground. To make the combo easier, pair KotR with Quad-Magic instead of HP Absorb and you will never mess up the timing (so long as you actually hit the Mime command when your turn comes up). Basically, with 4 rounds of Knights for every Hades/Mime, Ruby's claws will die before Stop fades, which means it can't counter with Ultima. As soon as Stop fades, it retracts its claws and then will bury them again basically immediately. Healing becomes a non-issue.

For Yuffie I Use Her Rising Sun, Which Is Pretty Good Because It's Double AND It Has 2 Sets Of Linked Slots.
Update: Actually What I Did Was I Made YUFFIE The One To Start The Chain(Since Her Rising Sun Weapon Was DOUBLE Growth And Has 2 Sets Of Linked Slots) And I Had Cloud Do The REVIVING With Phoenix. I can imagine the comments now. "FAKE!!!!!". You always get that sort of crap on speed runners' channels. Some people just can't accept that others are way better than them.
There's an awesome God Of War 3 player called Shinobier who massacres everything without upgrades and speed runs the game. His comment section is littered with twats saying that he's cheating.
If I find the time I'll check it out those videos today.
I'm having a crappy morning though. My Episode 3 grew to nearly 40 mins & is way too long, so I'm gonna have to axe half of it. I'm trying to keep pace with Fuzz's uploads. I had a whole breakdown of inventory management for the Reverse Steal Technique that was really high quality. For now it's all getting shelved. Gonna do a massive revision of the project today.
I tried the first method and got pretty far but ruby weapon attacked twice and killed cloud. What did I do wrong?
nothing, bad luck
@@Xigakoz yeah you're right, I've actually beaten it since then. Tho I ended up using a slightly different method so that might be why it worked
I have the same problem
@@pipolekangourou6421 dont lock ur turns, wait before ur other character finishes, that way u can see if weapon starts moving, if he does, paralyze him asap
My favorite is the counter attack strategy
Hey fuzz this might be off topic but in ff8 when is the best time to take on the the queen of cards? I’m in disc 2 and I want to get all rewards from her and I don’t want any mistakes to happen during the quest as far as cards go because I want all cards back 😊 what do u recommend?
can i use this stratery to beat emerald weapon to get the AP?
OMG! THIS IS GENIUS
Thanks!
Dude, how long did it take you to figure out this method? It is genius AF.
I've completed OG last year around this time, without defeating the weapons because I realized it was taking up too much of my time and I didn't have that luxury because of work lol But I always felt like in my heart I didn't completely finish it cause I didn't defeat those little shits
So here I am, re-opened my game saves from last year, applied your method word to word, and defeated without stressing "Am I going to die?"
Bless your brain, man, seriously!
If you want an even smoother fight, link KotR to Quad-Magic instead of HP Absorb. Lack of healing won't be an issue, because Ruby will never get to hit you.
Why do I spin out and die?
Hey dude. Sadly, after a ton of work on my Episode 3 of the W-Item Glitch, it has turned out far too long. Over 30 mins...
Not sure how I'm going to handle this, but I really want to get the next episode out in time for your uploads.
Is That The One With Duplicating Pretty Much "Anything" From The Inventory? I Still Gotta Think About Going Back To My OLD FF7 BACKED UP Save File And Demonstrating It As Well.
@@RedMarioXIIINanaki36 - Yeah, the inventory management section just blew up. Dragon Fangs, Vagyrisk Claws, Ghost Hands etc... I can't imagine anyone would have the patience to endure the dry content. For now the second half is getting shelved.
@@Lomaxient Thought So. Hey Lomax, Remember How I Said "Shadow Flare" Is The Most Powerful Enemy Skill In The Game? People Debate This, But It Is In Fact The Most Powerful. If You Didn't Notice, Pandora's Box Kinda Suffers From Split Damage Since It Hits All Enemies, While Shadow Flare Is "Single-Target" And That's Why It Does More Damage. Both Do Non-Elemental Damage, Though.
@@RedMarioXIIINanaki36 - haha... That's kinda like me trying to convince people that the Javelin is the best growth weapon in the game.
I know that I'm right mathematically, but they just see triple growth on the Scimitar and argue the toss for hours.
@@Lomaxient Scimitar Is The BEST Because Of Its Triple Growth, Though It Only Has 1 Set Of Linked Slots, Just Like Cloud's Apocalypse Though It Has 3 Separate Materia Slots. The Javelin Does Hold More Materia And Has Double Growth Though XD All 3 Are Pretty Good For Materia Growth. For Yuffie I Use Her Rising Sun, Which Is Pretty Good Because It's Double AND It Has 2 Sets Of Linked Slots.
He keeps using Ultima on me after 6 Knights in round
You already have Knights of the Round but, really, the main reason to beat Ruby Weapon is to get a Gold Chocobo so you can go get KotR.
Best way to kill off team members fast?
UA-cam needs a superlike or a love button lol 🔥🔥
Nice to ser a guide on something i did 20+ years ago. Very topical.
Update: Actually What I Did Was I Made YUFFIE The One To Start The Chain(Since Her Rising Sun Weapon Was DOUBLE Growth And Has 2 Sets Of Linked Slots) And I Had Cloud Do The REVIVING With Phoenix. However, It IS Best To Summon PHOENIX FIRST THEN Do The Chain. REMINDER To Look At MY Ruby Weapon Battle In My FF7 To See Exactly What I Did, Fuzz! Basically, Don't Have "Phoenix" And "Hades-MP Absorb"/"KOTR-HP Absorb" All On The Same Character, They Should Be SPREAD OUT On 2 DIFFERENT Characters. This ALSO ALLOWS You To Use RUNE ARMLETS/DOUBLE/TRIPLE GROWTH WEAPONS On EVERYONE With NO PENALTY As Well.
I hate summons in this game. Their animations are to long. The only one I really find useful sometimes is Phoenix.
When it comes to defeating the weapons, I prefer using Cait Sith for the win. Once you learn how to use Slots. That makes these fights ridiculously easy
lmao... why does a superboss not have immunity to paralyze xDDDD
All you need...
Counter-mime, kotr-hp absorb
One party member alive....
DONE
Every time i try that i get put in a dizzy and attack myself, which ruins mime
@@pipebomb717 that’s why you equip yourself with a ribbon, prevents status effects from Ruby’s tentacle
@@iam4026 i realized this a few hours after i posted that months and months ago. I really wish he would’ve explained this in the video. I beat Rubys fucking ass and i will cherish that accomplishment for the rest of my life
This defeats the purpose of a challenging boss really
Not working for me
Now it worked
I couldn't beat him so fukin strong
Eh, 50k AP is like an hr of swamp farming...
I kill him without pushing any button at all
❤❤❤
KoTR HP absorb/God mode PS4 cheat on with 9999 HP and 999 MP + Mime it is all you need and still SOLO it with a Ribbon user hades is useless it doesn't even last for ONE KoTR use so your still better off W summoning it.
Hey Veg, its cool to see you lurking around these older videos :)
However the GOD MODE cheat ALSO revives party members at the start of EVERY battle so to solo Ruby weapon WITH that cheat on turn it off kill the other 2 in my case Barret and Cid run into Ruby weapon WITH the CHEAT off then once the fight starts as solo Cloud you can turn the Infinite HP MP Limit cheat on and it won't revive the others at all.
lvl 73 is a lot of grinding...
I beat the game with everyone at lv80ish under 40 hours
the real grind is source farming
@@LionessPaladin not to mention the Chocobo grinding for a gold one in order to get KOTR and Mime. This is something the uploaded conveniently left out
@@iam4026 well really you don't need KOTR and Mime to beat him lol
just max out 6-8 Counter Materia by fighting Movers in Northern Cave with Apocalypse (Triple AP for less grinding) takers a lot less time than Chocobo Breeding
Using Cloud you start off using Hero Drinks and keeping Regen Up as often as possible, use Dazers to Paralyze Ruby so he doesn't counter with Ultima
just use 4x Cut when you get turns, use Ultima when the arms pop up, Meteorain Limit Break works fine if you don't want to get Omnislash
When attacked Cloud will counter for each piece of mastered Counter Materia
the goal is to deal as much damage as possible with counters so Ruby can't counter you back
A lot of the items are really easy to get just using the W-Item glitch so you don't have to grind all that much
Man if you're not lazy enough to get master summons and master commandes, final attack + phoenix and KOTR plus mp absorb, that alone you are breaking the game and be invinsible.
Omnislash 🤣😂😆
Hello fuzz whats you psn name its a honor to have you as a friend!
Seriously man you gotta get someone to talk for you 😕
