Big change in the TDS but also in the taste. When the water goes down to 10 PPM or less it tastes really weird. You need to add minerals back to the water so it can taste like water. RO water really is bad tasting. Search for REMIN Ca - RO Remineralization Filter this does the job just right. Reintroduces minerals back to the water so from 2ppm you will have more like 45 ppm but clean and natural minerals. Everyone seems to think 0 ppm on TDS meter but they always forget about the taste. Zero ppm on TDS meter means the water is very heavy tasting almost metallic and sour. We need minerals in our water. I was really not happy when I bought the RO system as I tested it next to Canadian Spring Mountain water and the difference was so different that I was almost about to send it back, but I found the REMIN Ca and I am happy now :)

I have been trying to do this with Vitapur VFK-5Q. the filters there are the same as with your system, so the housing and the actual membrane is one assembly, and it's not possible to remove the filter without damaging the housing as far as I can tell. And they don't seem to be selling those cartridges that you are mentioning here. so I pretty much had to disassemble the whole thing and even then flushing the tank is extremely challenging. I had to basically put chlorine into a piece of PEX pipe, attach that pipe to the tank and then to my pressurized city water supply, push chlorine into the tank, then disconnect, rinse and repeat.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders not old at all, yeah and a half or so. Due to covid I haven't been at one of residences for a month and the system got contaminated with bacteria. I guess when it's frequently used it's not a big deal. Not sure how to prevent this in the future though

Thanks for the reply & that’s no fun. Have you checked online for replacement filters?

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders yeah I bought the full set of replacement filters, but I still needed to flush the rest of the system with bleach before I put them in (tubes, tank)

Thanks for the reply. We recommend checking the instructional manual for sanitation procedures. If you do not have your instructional manual, you can go to the manufacturers website and download it. You may find this very helpful.

Wonderful job. As an owner of this system, Id had problems getting the filters at HD. had to order online. Could not find the manual on GE website, so your help was invaluable. Thanks.

Thanks for watching & you are very welcome! So happy to help. Us fellow DIY’ers need to stick together! We just moved into a new house & unfortunately...it didn’t have an RO system...
We missed ours so much, we had to go purchase a new one & install it.

this was so helpful because it is soon detailed, but video on the internet by far. My biggest mistake was making sure the tank was pressurize AND waiting for it to re pressurize.
    my problem:
replaced all 3 filters but had little water flow
cause: lost all pressure when I replaced filters
    solution:
re pressurized tank to 7 psi then WAITED for the tank to recharge.
    thank you!

That’s impressive, A+ to that tank for running that long. That might be the best thing to replace next.
