    Bro we can also change sine wave to desired frequency ..by using cycloconverter as cycloconverter is AC to AC converter at different output frequency....now so why we can't use cycloconverter instead of rectifier and inverter in a drive ?

      Kranthi, for power consumption one need to do analysis of running load and the requirements of plant. There are not much things to say without doing analysis of System.

    Why the motor not get burn in case of VFD as frequency is zero at starting? Induction motor is acts as a transformer and if frequency is zero at starting.

      There are many power electronics topology for VFD, Voltage source apply ac to dc store to dc capacitors then inverter to motor

    Bro we convert in dc only because we have to change the frequency and for changing the frequency we require inverter and inverter requires dc input that's why we change ac to dc first then if feed to inverter and by varing firing angle we change output voltage and frequency to control speed

      The topology circuit that use mostly nowadays is voltage source that convert AC to DC capacitors then use inverter firing PWM patterns to vary u/f

    Does V/f also remains constant in vector controlled VFD ?
    i.e. if a motor which is rated as 460V/60Hz is made to run at 30 Hz, does the voltage still remain 460V ?

      Some application, need to reduce speed motor more faster than natural mechanic inertia, during reducing motor action like generator convert mechanic energy back to the heat at braking resistor

      U/f only control and keep ratio u/f, vvc have to control flux component and torque component separately

    If frequency is one hz then output voltage in VFD is 16volt why not 415/50=8.3 volt..
    Plz explain

      At low frequency the u/f is higher , because the function VFD need to compensate voltage drop at stator resistance of motor
