@Balakeh ofc lol, and fnatic now would beat 2014 astralis aka team dignitas, what does that have to do with anything? You think there wasnt competition back then?
The video should've spoken more about zonic too, I feel he's one of the most instrumental reasons why Ast won as much as they did. He literally calmed everyone down on their highs and schooled them when they made mistakes. Was an integral part of the team - should've had more mentions in the video.
One of the saddest when it ended.. But one of the happiest and most thrilling eras of any esport ever. As many others have said, these guys showed exactly how important teamwork and team culture are.
although astralis had the best igl, most consistent awper, best support, and best entry combo, i think it was their teamwork and not their individual skill that made them so incredible. glaive reshaped all of them into their roles ^ and as a result, they were the best
Tbh they were dominant because teams usually have great teamwork or star players. Teams like FaZe with top of the line players never worked a lot because they miss the teamwork. Astralis was the only team that had star players AND amazing teamwork. They were a well oiled machine with some of the best of the best
Their teamwork was important but Device was Gla1ve’s and Zonic’s greatest weapon. Tactically they built their whole CT side around Device, so losing one of the best players of all time like that finished Astralis as a team - kinda proving that they did rely on individual skill a lot as well as teamwork.
It hurts me so much watching this, I’m relatively new to cs. I started playing right before the pandemic started. The first team I ever watched was Astralis and I was a fan from day 1. What got me thru the pandemic was watching Astralis on lan and online, hoping one day to see them play the Rio major. It has so much more meaning to me as during the pandemic it was a hard time for me and Astralis pulled me thru it. I won’t forget what they did. Never

Thank you! I've been waiting for a video like this. Good job!! Altough I agree with most of the video, I missed you talking more about their run in the fall of 2020. With Es3tag playing Xyp's position. I feel like we saw a glimpse of their former dominance in those months. He had such a crazy impact and definitely brought something to the team. He made Dupreeh play like his old self and gave them a brief state of momentum IMO. Beat NaVi in reverse sweep and prime Vitality as well. Even won a few trophies there if I remember correctly. One could argue the real downfall was when they sold Es3tag. I honestly think something happened internally that broke the team spirit and belief in the project. A decision probably made by the org, not supported by the players and Zonic. Might have been what pushed Device to leave and later dupreeh, magisk and zonic. I truly hope Zonic writes another book with insights of what happened in the latter of 2020 and the whole 2021. Until then one can only speculate... And be a Naffer.
You're actually right. It was leaked a while back that Zonic clashed with the org in an attempt to keep Esetag and that they wouldn't budge. Hard to maintain faith in a team like that when the org is clearly focused on cashing in over winning: simultaneously selling off the top talent (devve) and any new signings the moment they prove themselves transfer worthy (ese). The org fucking with them in this way was a major factor in their decline.
Just gotta appreciate how much they changed the tactical aspect of the game. How big of a step they forced other teams to take to get on the same level to compete agianst them.
I doubt there'll ever be a team that comes even near astralis' counter-strike perfection but at least the competitive scene is more entertaining now lol
They will forever be remembered as legends. Even in casual matchmaking everybody knows what to do when I call "lets do the Astralis stack". They will never be forgotten, who knows, maybe they will come back stronger.
If LAN returned faster, I still think Astralis would've recovered. They've done it time and time again before, especially right before major. They could sleep in semis and quarter finals the whole year before erupting and taking home the major championship without dropping a map. dev1ce just couldn't wait that long, and with him the rest of the tower came crumbling.
A fall can be good. When teams split they bring talent and knowledge to other areas. It may be years but ultimately, this could shake up the game having the best trickle down into other teams. Dynasties rise and they fall. It's sad but sometimes it's for the best for the game health.
I don't believe there will ever be a team as good as Astralis again. We'll see what success the new Na'Vi can have, but those 6 Danes (and Kjaerbye for a time as well) were the best unit the game will ever see for my money
Astralis reminds me of the chess computer "AlphaZero" which also revolutionized how chess was played EDIT: also no other engine defeated "AlphaZero" in his best. Coincidence?

Astralis will be always remembered for changing how you play eco rounds and actually win them easily. Especially in low skill matches. The Astralis tactic is devastating and works better than anyone would imagine. Everyone knows what Astralis at least on Inferno is. There is no play in history of CS that is more mindblowing. Boosts and fakes don't stand a chance against that.
Until today, I still watch Astralis clips... the way they are able to work together as a team is amazing but my favourite is their ways of getting smokes flashes and nades to somehow always work in their favour
Gla1ve and company will be back in the top 5 in 2022 especially if they get a replacement awper. The duo of blameF and konfig is the new dupreeh and magisk.
I remember when fnatic was at the top for years. It seemed that things just wouldnt change back then. There's still that one specific image in my mind, a match on overpass between Fnatic and Astralis, Astralis being the underdog here. I guess it was flusha who started teabagging at some point, where my disgust for Fnatic grew even more. Fnatic being in the lead felt so wrong, but suddenly Astralis made a comeback and won that match, becoming my absolut favorite team. They kept getting better and better, with slight changes here and there of course, proceeding to become the team that we all know. I have the most respect for all of those guys. They made CS:GO interesting for a long time for me, even when I stopped playing and watching. But every era has to come to an end. Maybe we see them rising again in the future.
Huge difference in Kjaerbye and Device, and you can tell just from how Dupreeh talks about the situation. Kjaerbye ghosted his team during contract negotiation, secretly signed with North, and left Astralis with very little communication and not a lot of time properly secure a replacement. Meanwhile, Device leaving was obviously properly communicated and talked about, or Dupreeh would not have been so kind and uplifting while talking about him. Kjaerbye leaving was a betrayal because of the circumstances, Device leaving was not a betrayal because of the circumstances. Details matter.

As a non Astralis fan I hated them because of how dominant they were. They were so good it's unbelievable winning every shit there was to win. I don't know in the future but they are definitely the best team ever formed to this day.

It's useless comparing it now. It's also very inaccurate saying 's1mple won a major', because it's a whole team effort. With Astralis having an undefeated era, competitive players especially s1mple trained and improved like hell. They analyzed, adapted, and sometimes even improved Astralis' style and tactics just so that they can come out on top. If you probably compare the latest NaVi against peak Astralis, then there might be a very fierce competition, but then again NaVi might still win because they have studied Astralis so much. We don't know for sure what peak Astralis will plan against a team that studied them for like 2 years or more. It's just plain impossible to comparing them in the present. Still, everyone won't help but deny that Astralis was a freaking legend and changed the whole scene for the absolute better.
Brings me to the current situation of devve where he joined NIP cos of his girlfriend and now they broke up, he isn't performing up to his standards and isn't enjoying his time at NIP and that's why he's off the roster currently. A return to Astralis? Although this is a long stretch since dupreeh is gone from Astralis too As much as we want the OG Astralis roster ain't coming back and I feel dev1ce, after taking some time, will pop off at NIP, I believe.
the explanation is really simple, Astralis took everyone by surprise, they were so much organized and playing as a team, every move counts, other teams didn't have this much of organization and most played everyone for himself. Astralis dominated the scene with that, so teams have to change, and they kept studying how Astralis are playing and practiced their tactics. The golden sentence in this video "Other teams realized that they have to become Astralis to beat Astralis" , so combine this with better skills from other teams, they were easily beaten down, Astralis are not the best in skills, i wont deny that they are skilled but not that skilled, so when combining Astralis tactics and strategies with the skill of another team like Navi or Faze, then things were going downhill for them. Astralis changed the way on how CS:GO is played, its now alot more team organized and every move counts which is great thing and more exciting to watch, as much as i hate them, but i will give them the credit for that.
Astralis is still the greatest team to ever play this game, and nobody can take that away with them. Hope their former players can find happiness and success in whatever they choose to pursue
astralis power is insane strat and teamwork, they never have best player but they have best player in the position. goat anchor, goat support/clutch, goat entry, goat igl. thats why until this very second no team better than them
I'd like to see the matchup, but I think I disagree with you. I think a lot of people still underestimate how strong the Navi lineup is right now, even after their dominant major win. They have objectively the best player in the world, the best rookie of 2021, probably the best support player in Perfecto, and Electronic, who would be the #1 star player on almost any other roster. The weakest link is Boombl4 who is IGLing and often entrying onto sites, so he doesn't need to be statistically incredible. Plus, Navi's utility usage is pretty incredible and they are revolutionizing some maps, just like how Astralis used to. The 19 straight nuke streak that they had reminded me a lot of Astralis' old nuke streak back in 2018, and that goes to show just how similar the teams are in level of ability. Personally, I think 2021 Major Navi would come out on top of 2018 Astralis in a bo3 or bo5.

CS GO is a team game.. device was never the only reason Astralis won that many majors and were that dominating, yeah he was a key player, but not only him, but 4 more members + 1 coach. They did defeat the giants. The CSGO scene as a whole did. To the point where they couldn’t even get to the final stage to defend their greatness one last time. The game caught up.
Exactly, they did defeat them, not sure what he meant by not getting the proper end etc. The online era came , and they could carry on if they were still the best, but they weren't and won't be anymore. No one realistically expected them to go another 3 years winning 95% of tournaments a year did they? Feels like he meant that online era killed astralis, but if you can't adjust to change how good are you? No doubt they were the best in the world for years no question there, but srsly tho, saying they were never defeated is dumb as hell
I think what he meant is they never got the major where they failed to win in the finale and got toppled that way. Think of it like if Messi and Ronaldo never played each other in a final. Messi always won. And then Ronaldo wins a final but that time Messi's team got nocked out in the group stages. Anticlimatic in a sense.
They will come back as a solid top 5 at best. With three main pieces gone along with the legendary coach you can't expect the same level of dominance as in 2018. No doubt ave is a great replacement for zonic and new players are also great, but they can't compare to what it was years ago. It took navi years to build a team that can consistently perform and win, same with G2. I would love to see more competition no doubt with astralis present, but it won't be anytime soon. Essentially there is no comback to the level they had, from now on it will be a fight for top 3-4 spots on HLTV and a lont journey to the top. But hoping that this astralis will achieve same heights as the old one is simply unrealistic. Even hardcore fans would have to be delusional to believe that 2022 astralis can bring 2018 dominance back just because two dudes from those years are still on this team
Astralis won the big tournament in May 2020 as well, which is where the Rio Major would have been. If not for corona, Astralis would very likely have won 4 majors in a row.

The video should've spoken more about zonic too, I feel he's one of the most instrumental reasons why Ast won as much as they did. He literally calmed everyone down on their highs and schooled them when they made mistakes. Was an integral part of the team - should've had more mentions in the video.
True
He was professional in cs 1.6
It,s one of the saddest CS:GO stories ever :( Miss them so much.
This was kinda the point that the video was trying to make 2 mins in
Tbh they were dominant because teams usually have great teamwork or star players.

If LAN returned faster, I still think Astralis would've recovered. They've done it time and time again before, especially right before major. They could sleep in semis and quarter finals the whole year before erupting and taking home the major championship without dropping a map. dev1ce just couldn't wait that long, and with him the rest of the tower came crumbling.
no, if LAN returned faster there's no difference. navi and other teams could adapt to online. no excuse

He killed his own career.
Personally, the statement that "Astralis are dead!" is so careless and disrespectful. Astralis as a CSGO team will always be a legend. The core has moved on and there is a new era on the horizon, Astralis is evolving so they have to first shed their old selves and then try to rise through that.
Nevertheless, astralis is dead as year 2021 states.

ShahZam or someone else said there was one player in the team who was affecting the environment, earlier I thought it's dapr but now i really think it's zombs lol
When they were up?
Sentinels were never good. Other teams were just warming up and getting used to the game.
It was never about the frags, the ranks or the trophies. It was about the friends we made along the way.
Simple could have never won a major if old Astralis is in play.
He might be coming home guys!
Let's hope for the return of the kings.
Brings me to the current situation of devve where he joined NIP cos of his girlfriend and now they broke up, he isn't performing up to his standards and isn't enjoying his time at NIP and that's why he's off the roster currently.
A return to Astralis?
Although this is a long stretch since dupreeh is gone from Astralis too
As much as we want the OG Astralis roster ain't coming back and I feel dev1ce, after taking some time, will pop off at NIP, I believe.
the explanation is really simple, Astralis took everyone by surprise, they were so much organized and playing as a team, every move counts, other teams didn't have this much of organization and most played everyone for himself.
Hope their former players can find happiness and success in whatever they choose to pursue
astralis power is insane strat and teamwork, they never have best player but they have best player in the position. goat anchor, goat support/clutch, goat entry, goat igl. thats why until this very second no team better than them
Hands down the current NAVI can't match up to this Astralis I'm sure. And well, device can be called Sasuke cause he left Astralis in search of power
While this video sounds waaaay to dramatic, I'm pretty damn sure that their memory they left behind are greater than any. They embody csgo.
teams did catch up to them. They lost to big, EG, gambit, navi, furia. 5 eliminations in a row, with their best roster. They just got worse and other teams catch up. Same that happened with fnatic in their era
