I believe that being financially prepared is a big part of truly being prepared for whatever may happen next. If you do not own outright where you live and what you drive, you can easily become homeless and have to walk everywhere you want to go should you lose your income and are unable to make those payments. And even if it seems like the apocalypse has occurred, the debt collectors will still find you and want to be paid. And they can probably find a court somewhere to get a judgement against you that will authorize the sheriff (or whatever group is serving as law enforcement) to help seize the valuables in your possession or hold a public auction of your possessions to raise money for your creditors. This happened numerous times in the 1930s during the Great Depression and could happen again. I would say to anyone -- If you really want to be a prepper, then pay off your debts and own outright the basic necessities (shelter, transportation, food, water...) so you will be much better prepared for whatever may happen next.
Could not agree more. I started saving for my first house at the age of 15. The idea of being out on the street because I could not pay my rent was not appealing. A modest home with relatively low taxes was always a high priority since I could never depend on my health holding out. Own your own dependable car, INVEST in a relatively conservative style, protect your health. Basically LISTEN to Prepper Princess.. waste not / want not. 😊
Oh my goodness, I’m not even finished watching , but talking about the prepper community… So EXTREMELY EXTREMELY well said. I fell for it. I ended up going down the rabbit hole. I don’t live with regrets, so I just MoveOn. But you were the only “ prepper” that I continue to follow. Not saying we shouldn’t have things ready for an emergency, but… I won’t go on, I just appreciate this video.
I feel the same in many regards, but I think there was something in the air that we were sensing. Starting prepping for the second time in my life in 2017. Saw all the prepping channels and tried to read between the lines about the intensity that something was coming. Probably around 2019 I realized that the coming crisis was that Trump may not leave office even if he lost the election (Im not opening that can of worms here). This was the buzz of civil war that was in the air. It really could have happened I believe. As a byproduct of prepping for this "imminent crisis," I was almost completely prepared for the pandemic (had plenty of paper products but not the correct masks) and the unrest that followed. I think we did dodge a bullet and things have calmed for now. War with China is still a possibility and a limited nuclear exchange could happen with various nuclear powers. However, I have backed off prepping and have unsubscribed to most of the channels. I spent a lot of money that was probably overkill. I liked your comment.

I think what many preppers think is prepping, isn't nearly as effective as what you're doing. Yes, you do have some food stored, but even more important, you have the tools and skills needed to provide yourself with more food (etc) in the future. That's much more stability than having a basement full of supplies, which can, eventually, go bad or run out.
I agree...MOST peppers are fear based AND the people who follow them are fear based. Now, my husband and I have ALWAYS prepped and we've been married for 45 years. in 2020 we were working for the same company and the contract we were working on we lost the contract and for about a full year, we lived off our pantry and freezer.
Now that is what prepping is for! Savings of cash, fuel, food &bsupplies to tide you over when the unexpected happens. Not all preppers are psyco, certainly not apocalyptic!
I wish more people were concerned about retirement than prepping for a disaster. Retirement is inevitable, a disaster is a possibility. If you prep for retirement in the correct way, it is like prepping for a disaster anyway. Learn to cook simply & healthy, minimalize belongings, and be debt free. Study the ways of survival don't fall for buying all the things you "might" need. These are companies that want to sell you their products and people are falling for it. '
I don't think people understand how being raised in extreme poverty affects your whole adult life. I don't think i'm.a "prepper" but I'm the girl who has back ups for her back ups. I live in Florida so I'm in a perpetual state of preparedness, and all done on a budget.
Many preppers are solely focused on end-of-the-world scenarios that are unsurvivable for most of us, no matter how much food, weapons, medical supplies, chickens, etc are stashed away. We are not going to “bug out,” but will stay in our homes. Most people are far more likely to experience job loss, illness or some other event that affects the ability to bring in an adequate income. In these situations, a paid for house and money in the bank are far more valuable. Yes, and put away some dry/canned food and meds to last a few months. I feel that good financial planning/management, such as that advocated by Prepper Princess, will go further to help in most SHTF scenarios that many of us will face from time to time. Forget doomsday and prepare for a more likely emergency.
I have evolved in my prepping attitude, spent way too much money on freeze dried food. A few things I like but over all not so much. I still believe in being prepared but not going overboard. I have two Jackerys, one solar panel and that's all I can afford.
Those crazy preppers give me the creeps, I understand investing, paying off our house and not eating out that often but we have only one life, I like to travel and we enjoy trips with the family, moderation and consistency are the key to long term well being, physically and mentally, people, just enjoy life and don't become a paranoid person, it's not good for ypu and anybody around, it's hard to keep a normal relationship with someone like that, I've ended friendships for this very reason.

Thank you so much for this video. I have watched your channel for the last 4 years and have learned a lot from your channel. I look at prepping like an insurance policy. I live my life just like any other person in a suburb near a large city. I don't believe a collapse is a likely event so I don't live like I expect that to happen. I'm prepared for emergencies and am set up to be self-sufficient if I need to, but I enjoy socializing, and the niceties of life just like most people. I like your advice on frugal living. Your strategies on how to live on less are the most practical and beneficial information you share on this channel. Thank you.
I am disabled & can't do a lot, I have to conserve my own energy to do the little things, so whatever I do has to be very minimal effort. I would love for you to do a video on your lazy gardening, cause I hope it's something I could do. Thanks!!

Thank you SO much for describing today’s “preppers” accurately. I believe in preparing but I don’t want anything to do with the modern day prepper community. In my observations they do want everything to come crashing down and some are “scary ready” to make it happen from within. I think your channel has the right balance, so that we’re prepared for those valleys between the peaks that our country/economy has always experienced. I do my stocking up in the fall so I don’t have to go to the grocery store when it’s cold and snowy. I do want a solar generator in the future.
I haven’t seen preppers who want bad things to happen. I have seen powerful people in government and rich people who seem to be pushing for the system to fail because they have a solution that nobody wants.
The first video of yours I saw was from a long time ago, one where you talked about how peoples' perceptions of old age is that they'll be in good health up until the day they drop dead and that reflects how they prepare (or don't) for old age. I have cared for several of my elderly relatives in the last years of their life and I'm very aware of the fact that it does NOT work that way. I was so glad to hear someone in the public sphere talk about that. That was enough to get me watching more of your videos and I have been hooked since.
My husband and I are preppers. We don't have mental issues and neither one of us have a victim's mentality. We prepare for multiple things, not just SHTF.
There is nothing wrong with being a prepper. When I was young my Grandmother had a garden and she canned. She was frugal and she made meals from scratch. You could have said today that she is a prepper. But it was her life experience and people from her era did those things. It was and is a prudent thing to do.
I am prepared, not a preper. I grow our food ,dehydrate, and can food to last for the year ahead . I donate my time to support the community I live in.
I’m a senior and if civilization collapses I’m not gonna live off the land and sleep in a tent or whatever. I’ve lived a good life so I’ll just shuffle off to my eternal rest.
One of my favorite things you said a couple years ago about prepping... people think the government will come take your food... you are not that important to the government. It is grandious thinking. I don't think of myself as a prepper. I am just a gimped up old lady who has a good size working pantry. One pantry where I buy on sale... and I can rotatoe through it. If some things like cream of mushroom soup go like a few months past date.. .I make up a big batch of frozen meals with it and have ready to eat food... then I replace it. I can be frugal and reasonable. this way. It is a FAIL if you are low income and are tossing away food. You have got to roatate through it. I used to have much more. The only freeze dried food I have had were the strawberries from the dollarstore. LOL I just had to try them. I still can and premake food... but I don't store nearly as much as I used to back in my extreme couponing days. Of all the things I wish I had... only a solar generator is on the list right now. There are reasons for it... but I can 100% make it without one at this point. I WANT one... but will my life end without one? No, not at all.
We started with water storage. We live in town and you cannot know when the water main could break. It’s happened to me in three different towns. We store food in case the breadwinner becomes Ill and can’t work. We live check to check like most people. Also I’ve been able to feed my adult children when they were between jobs. Can’t let their babies go hungry! I am at the resupply stage now. You have been a terrific resource along with a couple other prepped channels.
When we were in lockdown I purchased some of that 25 year food I still have it but have found other things and studied and researched storing things like rice, beans etc. Learning canning now, even if you don't grow your own food you can buy food and preserve it. Water is essential so I do have an abundance of water and a large Berkey. I found your channel and learned so much more about a ton of issues. I trust your opinion since you have done so much research!

I prepped for my retirement as I worked in a grocery store the last 18 years and the since covid I have seen produce that has been the same price for like 5 years or so DOUBLE and higher!!! The company I worked for during covid started giving us 100$ gift card at least once a month and I would only buy BOGO with it making it a 200$ gift card. I retired at the end of 22, in June my partner of 32 years fell hit her head unknown to either of us but had emergency brain surgery, she is home doing AMAZING, BUT now we have all the medical bills coming in several 250.00, 350.00 ect up to 1789.00 ( this is what we owe for a 478,570.00 hospital bill thankful for insurance) sooo we are not having to go to grocery store except fresh. Prep for emergency's!!!! Love my dehydrator have lots from the garden tomatoes are awesome and long term safe
I worked for that same Grocery store! I used my $100 monthly gift card for bogos as well. I also took advantage of the stock purchase and 401 program, which with the company match program was awesome! ❤
Hoping you contact your hospital. Ask for discounts and to review your bill. Sometimes an error can happen in medically billing with a fine line discrepancy in procedures or tired eyes or data entry fingers going dyslexic. One can also try to negotiate the bill down to less. Sometimes, the hospitals will have access to a charity program to help out with bills.
I just grew up poor so I when I bought a house, I put in a garden and a wood burning stove. Went and got a gas generator.. As the kids got older(3 &4), they saw an episode of Curious George that had a solar oven and wanted to make one. We did out of things we found around the barn. It worked!! The kids were fascinated with solar, so at tax time, we went to harbor freight and got a small set up… We have been off to the races!!! The kids can rig up a fancy pants system in no time!

Once you tossed out all your long-storage food because you said it wasn't super tasty I rather moved on. Why? Well, I was always thinking that long-term storage foods were for survival only. Confused me. Years ago I read a book about the famine in China that led to people eating maggot-infested food to survive. Thus, I am not concerned about taste if I just need to survive. Thought your move of throwing it all away was a bit odd.
I agree. I'm sure one can add some seasoning to it, to make it more palatable, but sure if she gave it away it that's that. It was her money that she spent on it so no need to ponder it further.
I must say , every so called prepper has their own views, I started about the same time as you. My wife I'm sure wondered why. I lost her to the powers above,. I've since then got more into it. It's always refreshing to see other people's views about this, especially hoping the crazy world doesn't flush us down the drain.

I remember because I saw an oxygen concentrator, I know it because my mother (cancer) has one 24/7 I always liked your style, so when you started doing money saving videos i watched also and here I am 😊, but my primary interest was always prepping, because I live in south américa and most of your savings methods don't apply here with 150% yearly inflation, but it's always nice to hear you, you pretty smart
I always liked to focus on the positive aspects of prepping. I looked for years at freeze dried emergency foods but just couldn't pull the trigger because of the cost, and quite frankly you'll starve to death on that stuff as the calorie counts are far too low. I remember having Mountain House a few times when camping in the 80's and it was horrible. Instead I too went with a large working pantry of ordinary canned and dry goods. Rather than costing far too much I buy supplies by the case when they go on sale and actually save money so it's a win win. Of course we rotate through it all and I save those meals for nights we don't feel like cooking something more elaborate as they're super easy to make. They taste quite good and my wife keeps asking me to make them. We went with basic canned meats, veggies and fruits rather than premade meals like chili, stew or canned pasta dishes which makes a huge different and if you look at the ingredients of those you'll quickly see why. I work a low income job so I’m a ‘poor people’ and you’re right. My coworkers, other ‘poor people’, will 100% take from their retirement accounts to pay for stuff and not even think twice about it. The process at my job is so easy and no one asks any questions. You just go online say you need X amount and it’s in your bank account within 24 hours.
I refuse to call myself a prepper because of the zombie apocalypse connotations. I see myself as a prudent householder. As we live in San Francisco, we could be without power, gas, or water for three weeks. It makes sense to have at least a three week supply of food and water.. We also store sterno fuel and firewood, and we have candles, kerosene lamps, solar-powered lamps that can also charge from the mains or by cranking. We have matches and lighters. When the power cut out several months ago, ours was the only house on the block that had lights! We're planning to buy a solar generator to keep the fridge and freezer running. It would also power my small electric cooking devices. We currently carry six months worth of food as a hedge against inflation, and this is rotated. Its an active pantry. We have a stock of drinking water and another of water that we'd use to wash our hands and flush the toilet - but not six months' worth! I do not believe in the SHTF thing. I can't get on with SHTFers - it looks to me as if they're constantly whipping themselves into a frenzy of fear and suspicion.
As far as my preps I work backwards from the the rest....I prep for the probable first...job loss...power outages * we live in an area it happens frequently), family illness...so I cleaned up my credit....started saving, alot a small budget for less likely scenarios (working toward a solar generator and a stash of medications) but I can't tell you how many times I had to dip into my "doomsday" stash for everyday use...that's why I call my self what I do....no matter what is happening just trying to keep the home front stable
Yes. Prudent householder. Just common sense things like should there be a snow storm, or job layoff or perhaps you hurt your back can't get to the store etc. Those are the the things that are more likely to happen.
My dog is going through Cushing's disease now, life expectancy is 3 years, things increase and I work on what I can to solve the problems as they come up, I know what you speak about of cost on dogs care. So I am where you have been.

I'm not sure if PP reviewed it or not but we got the ANKER 2200Watt solar generator. It's their Big Boy with the newer type Lithium IRON Phosphate... which is apparently safer (fire wise) than the Lithium ION batteries. It can handle keeping my fridge & freezer running during a power outage.. for over a day. It is fast charging via your car or gas generator.. but can also charge by its (2) 200-watt solar panels... so, lots of options. Warning.. not cheap.. but better than losing $$$ in food.

I'm surprised to hear you didnt like Thrive freeze dried foods. Maybe because you cook. I can't eat processed foods because I'm used to home cooking. Thrive does have single ingredient products such as mashed potstoes, corn, peas and I've found them to be ok
I've never understood the prepper mindset but hey, to each their own. There is nowhere I need to go, no one I need to talk to, and nothing I need to do. I'm quite happy and content living on next to nothing. I've gotten by without water, without electricity, without heat, without communications for extended periods of time. At 62, I've had a good run and, if the apocalypse happens, I'm fine.
I have found that single ingredient freeze dried and dehydrated foods are easy to cook with. I do have large #10 cans of beans, pasta, and vegetables. I did try some others, but like you, I thought they were just nasty. A rotating pantry works for me.
I don't prep anymore unless I'm making food and portion it out for the week. I find when I stock up I just end upwith too much extra stuff cluttering and sometimes even goes bad before I can get to it.
I’m a city prepper but I’m not hard core. I use the principles in my daily life. You know just being prepared In case of emergency. You won’t. Find hoarding or extra items in my home I don’t store things… the only prepper thing I have is battery run lantern and that’s it 😅😅. No extra food or anything 😅 I guess I might not be a prepper 😅 I guess I just like watching the shows 😅😅
Awww, my dog,Walter, a Mini-Schnauzer, had Cushings… it was so so sad to see him go through it, even with medical care. It is incredibly difficult to see your beloved pets become older and ill… I am not sure if I can have any more pets once my current ones pass on… too painful!
Store what you use and use what you store. Rotate new food to the back, bring older to the front. I always write the acquisition date on the can or container with a Sharpee which has saved me many times. Water weighs 8 lb per gallon, so you need a cart or something to bring home a 5 gallon bucket full unless you can carry 40 lb. which I can’t. Ideas to help you along.

I think being prepared is smart, but I had to stop watching a couple of well known channels. They were making my stomach churn with anxiety. I was worried about all my family and friends too! I had to stop!
I have not watched any prepper videos... but her change has been for the better. I do not agree with not using the retirement/401k/brokerage accounts for an emergency. But that is my opinion. That money is yours, but that is also my opinion. Saying you can't 'afford' something is somewhat misinformation. You do have the money, you choose to let the stock market grow rich on it instead of using it for your own benefit right now.

With that freeze dried food, I found that if I leave it extra time to refresh in water, it recovers its natural taste. That being said, there are some things I love and some I don't particularly like. Cooking methods need to change a bit.
I have an All American Sun oven which saves me a ton since I'm in Texas and we get a lot of sun. I would like to get a solar generator next. I agree on most of that dehydrated and freeze dried stuff. Only thing I liked getting was dehydrated potatoes. The rest doesn't seem worth money or space it takes to store.

I have evolved in my prepping attitude, spent way too much money on freeze dried food. A few things I like but over all not so much. I still believe in being prepared but not going overboard. I have two Jackerys, one solar panel and that's all I can afford.
I live in earthquake country. I don't consider myself to be a prepper, but I do my best to be prepared for an extended emergency.
Those crazy preppers give me the creeps, I understand investing, paying off our house and not eating out that often but we have only one life, I like to travel and we enjoy trips with the family, moderation and consistency are the key to long term well being, physically and mentally, people, just enjoy life and don't become a paranoid person, it's not good for ypu and anybody around, it's hard to keep a normal relationship with someone like that, I've ended friendships for this very reason.

Thank you so much for this video. I have watched your channel for the last 4 years and have learned a lot from your channel. I look at prepping like an insurance policy. I live my life just like any other person in a suburb near a large city. I don't believe a collapse is a likely event so I don't live like I expect that to happen. I'm prepared for emergencies and am set up to be self-sufficient if I need to, but I enjoy socializing, and the niceties of life just like most people. I like your advice on frugal living. Thank you SO much for describing today’s “preppers” accurately. I believe in preparing but I don’t want anything to do with the modern day prepper community. In my observations they do want everything to come crashing down and some are “scary ready” to make it happen from within. I think your channel has the right balance, so that we’re prepared for those valleys between the peaks that our country/economy has always experienced. I do my stocking up in the fall so I don’t have to go to the grocery store when it’s cold and snowy. I do want a solar generator in the future.
I haven’t seen preppers who want bad things to happen. I have seen powerful people in government and rich people who seem to be pushing for the system to fail because they have a solution that nobody wants.
The first video of yours I saw was from a long time ago, one where you talked about how peoples' perceptions of old age is that they'll be in good health up until the day they drop dead and that reflects how they prepare (or don't) for old age. I have cared for several of my elderly relatives in the last years of their life and I'm very aware of the fact that it does NOT work that way. I was so glad to hear someone in the public sphere talk about that. That was enough to get me watching more of your videos and I have been hooked since.
My husband and I are preppers. We don't have mental issues and neither one of us have a victim's mentality. We prepare for multiple things, not just SHTF.
There is nothing wrong with being a prepper. When I was young my Grandmother had a garden and she canned. She was frugal and she made meals from scratch. You could have said today that she is a prepper. But it was her life experience and people from her era did those things. It was and is a prudent thing to do.
Yes, my mother was also a prepper, but not a crazy one. I am also a prepper I can, freeze and dry my food. I also cook.
I am prepared, not a preper. I grow our food ,dehydrate, and can food to last for the year ahead . I donate my time to support the community I live in.

One of my favorite things you said a couple years ago about prepping... people think the government will come take your food... you are not that important to the government. It is grandious thinking. I don't think of myself as a prepper. I am just a gimped up old lady who has a good size working pantry. One pantry where I buy on sale... and I can rotatoe through it. If some things like cream of mushroom soup go like a few months past date.. .I make up a big batch of frozen meals with it and have ready to eat food... then I replace it. I can be frugal and reasonable. this way. It is a FAIL if you are low income and are tossing away food. You have got to roatate through it. I used to have much more. The only freeze dried food I have had were the strawberries from the dollarstore. LOL I just had to try them. I still can and premake food... but I don't store nearly as much as I used to back in my extreme couponing days. Of all the things I wish I had... only a solar generator is on the list right now. There are reasons for it... but I can 100% make it without one at this point. I WANT one... but will my life end without one? No, not at all.

We started with water storage. We live in town and you cannot know when the water main could break. It’s happened to me in three different towns. We store food in case the breadwinner becomes Ill and can’t work. We live check to check like most people. Also I’ve been able to feed my adult children when they were between jobs. Can’t let their babies go hungry! I am at the resupply stage now. You have been a terrific resource along with a couple other prepped channels.
When we were in lockdown I purchased some of that 25 year food I still have it but have found other things and studied and researched storing things like rice, beans etc. Learning canning now, even if you don't grow your own food you can buy food and preserve it. Water is essential so I do have an abundance of water and a large Berkey. I found your channel and learned so much more about a ton of issues. I trust your opinion since you have done so much research!

I prepped for my retirement as I worked in a grocery store the last 18 years and the since covid I have seen produce that has been the same price for like 5 years or so DOUBLE and higher!!! The company I worked for during covid started giving us 100$ gift card at least once a month and I would only buy BOGO with it making it a 200$ gift card. I retired at the end of 22, in June my partner of 32 years fell hit her head unknown to either of us but had emergency brain surgery, she is home doing AMAZING, BUT now we have all the medical bills coming in several 250.00, 350.00 ect up to 1789.00 ( this is what we owe for a 478,570.00 hospital bill thankful for insurance) sooo we are not having to go to grocery store except fresh. Prep for emergency's!!!! Love my dehydrator have lots from the garden tomatoes are awesome and long term safe
I worked for that same Grocery store! I used my $100 monthly gift card for bogos as well. I also took advantage of the stock purchase and 401 program, which with the company match program was awesome! ❤

Hoping you contact your hospital. Ask for discounts and to review your bill. Sometimes an error can happen in medically billing with a fine line discrepancy in procedures or tired eyes or data entry fingers going dyslexic. One can also try to negotiate the bill down to less. Sometimes, the hospitals will have access to a charity program to help out with bills.
PP, I’m single, too and have a sign outside my front door that says NO SOLICITING! So there is NO reason for anyone to come to my door!
We finally got a sign too, and then salespeople just totally ignored it!
I just grew up poor so I when I bought a house, I put in a garden and a wood burning stove. Went and got a gas generator.. As the kids got older(3 &4), they saw an episode of Curious George that had a solar oven and wanted to make one. We did out of things we found around the barn. It worked!! The kids were fascinated with solar, so at tax time, we went to harbor freight and got a small set up… We have been off to the races!!!
The kids can rig up a fancy pants system in no time!

You’re right, commercially prepared freeze dried is YUK! There are now home freeze dryers where you can freeze dry your own food.
Once you tossed out all your long-storage food because you said it wasn't super tasty I rather moved on. Why? Well, I was always thinking that long-term storage foods were for survival only. Confused me. Years ago I read a book about the famine in China that led to people eating maggot-infested food to survive. Thus, I am not concerned about taste if I just need to survive. Thought your move of throwing it all away was a bit odd.
I agree. I'm sure one can add some seasoning to it, to make it more palatable, but sure if she gave it away it that's that. It was her money that she spent on it so no need to ponder it further.
I must say , every so called prepper has their own views, I started about the same time as you. My wife I'm sure wondered why. I lost her to the powers above,. I've since then got more into it. It's always refreshing to see other people's views about this, especially hoping the crazy world doesn't flush us down the drain.

I never brag. Only those people who are insecure need to brag about things.
I always liked to focus on the positive aspects of prepping. I looked for years at freeze dried emergency foods but just couldn't pull the trigger because of the cost, and quite frankly you'll starve to death on that stuff as the calorie counts are far too low. I remember having Mountain House a few times when camping in the 80's and it was horrible. Instead I too went with a large working pantry of ordinary canned and dry goods. Rather than costing far too much I buy supplies by the case when they go on sale and actually save money so it's a win win. Of course we rotate through it all and I save those meals for nights we don't feel like cooking something more elaborate as they're super easy to make. They taste quite good and my wife keeps asking me to make them. We went with basic canned meats, veggies and fruits rather than premade meals like chili, stew or canned pasta dishes which makes a huge different and if you look at the ingredients of those you'll quickly see why.

I work a low income job so I’m a ‘poor people’ and you’re right. My coworkers, other ‘poor people’, will 100% take from their retirement accounts to pay for stuff and not even think twice about it. The process at my job is so easy and no one asks any questions. You just go online say you need X amount and it’s in your bank account within 24 hours.
I refuse to call myself a prepper because of the zombie apocalypse connotations. I see myself as a prudent householder.
As we live in San Francisco, we could be without power, gas, or water for three weeks. It makes sense to have at least a three week supply of food and water.. We also store sterno fuel and firewood, and we have candles, kerosene lamps, solar-powered lamps that can also charge from the mains or by cranking. We have matches and lighters. When the power cut out several months ago, ours was the only house on the block that had lights! We're planning to buy a solar generator to keep the fridge and freezer running. It would also power my small electric cooking devices.
We currently carry six months worth of food as a hedge against inflation, and this is rotated. Its an active pantry. We have a stock of drinking water and another of water that we'd use to wash our hands and flush the toilet - but not six months' worth!
I do not believe in the SHTF thing. I can't get on with SHTFers - it looks to me as if they're constantly whipping themselves into
a frenzy of fear and suspicion.

As far as my preps I work backwards from the the rest....I prep for the probable first...job loss...power outages * we live in an area it happens frequently), family illness...so I cleaned up my credit....started saving, alot a small budget for less likely scenarios (working toward a solar generator and a stash of medications) but I can't tell you how many times I had to dip into my "doomsday" stash for everyday use...that's why I call my self what I do....no matter what is happening just trying to keep the home front stable
Yes. Prudent householder. Just common sense things like should there be a snow storm, or job layoff or perhaps you hurt your back can't get to the store etc. Those are the the things that are more likely to happen.
My dog is going through Cushing's disease now, life expectancy is 3 years, things increase and I work on what I can to solve the problems as they come up, I know what you speak about of cost on dogs care. So I am where you have been.
Forget propane, a rocket stove uses twigs and is a very efficient way to cook.
I have found rocket stoves to be more trouble than they are worth.

Oh, yeah dear Princess, you are *well prepared* come what may! It can also be about getting to the mentality that you can manage, be fairly skillful, and are mentally resourceful. Nobody has a patent on prepping.

I'm not sure if PP reviewed it or not but we got the ANKER 2200Watt solar generator.
It's their Big Boy with the newer type Lithium IRON Phosphate... which is apparently safer (fire wise) than the Lithium ION batteries.
It can handle keeping my fridge & freezer running during a power outage.. for over a day. It is fast charging via your car or gas generator.. but can also charge by its (2) 200-watt solar panels... so, lots of options.
Warning.. not cheap.. but better than losing $$$ in food.

I'm surprised to hear you didnt like Thrive freeze dried foods. Maybe because you cook. I can't eat processed foods because I'm used to home cooking. Thrive does have single ingredient products such as mashed potstoes, corn, peas and I've found them to be ok
I've never understood the prepper mindset but hey, to each their own. There is nowhere I need to go, no one I need to talk to, and nothing I need to do. I'm quite happy and content living on next to nothing. I've gotten by without water, without electricity, without heat, without communications for extended periods of time. At 62, I've had a good run and, if the apocalypse happens, I'm fine.

I have found that single ingredient freeze dried and dehydrated foods are easy to cook with. I do have large #10 cans of beans, pasta, and vegetables. I did try some others, but like you, I thought they were just nasty. A rotating pantry works for me.
I don't prep anymore unless I'm making food and portion it out for the week. I find when I stock up I just end upwith too much extra stuff cluttering and sometimes even goes bad before I can get to it.
I’m a city prepper but I’m not hard core. I use the principles in my daily life. You know just being prepared In case of emergency. You won’t. Find hoarding or extra items in my home I don’t store things… the only prepper thing I have is battery run lantern and that’s it 😅😅. No extra food or anything 😅 I guess I might not be a prepper 😅 I guess I just like watching the shows 😅😅

Awww, my dog,Walter, a Mini-Schnauzer, had Cushings… it was so so sad to see him go through it, even with medical care. It is incredibly difficult to see your beloved pets become older and ill… I am not sure if I can have any more pets once my current ones pass on… too painful!

Store what you use and use what you store. Rotate new food to the back, bring older to the front. I always write the acquisition date on the can or container with a Sharpee which has saved me many times. Water weighs 8 lb per gallon, so you need a cart or something to bring home a 5 gallon bucket full unless you can carry 40 lb. which I can’t. Ideas to help you along.

I think being prepared is smart, but I had to stop watching a couple of well known channels. They were making my stomach churn with anxiety. I was worried about all my family and friends too! I had to stop!

I have not watched any prepper videos... but her change has been for the better. I do not agree with not using the retirement/401k/brokerage accounts for an emergency. But that is my opinion. That money is yours, but that is also my opinion. Saying you can't 'afford' something is somewhat misinformation. You do have the money, you choose to let the stock market grow rich on it instead of using it for your own benefit right now.
There is different kinds of preparedness. Your preparing for retirement now instead of the world going to pot
My retirement is done, taken care of. I could quit everything right now if I wanted. I’m here to teach others how to do it

If you still have solar generators that were given to you by different companies and still don't need them, can you send me one of them please? I need it for running my regular size fridge, 2 freezers, tv and a fan/heater in case of a power outage. I'm in Mississippi, thanks a bunch!
With that freeze dried food, I found that if I leave it extra time to refresh in water, it recovers its natural taste. That being said, there are some things I love and some I don't particularly like. Cooking methods need to change a bit.
I have an All American Sun oven which saves me a ton since I'm in Texas and we get a lot of sun. I would like to get a solar generator next. I agree on most of that dehydrated and freeze dried stuff. Only thing I liked getting was dehydrated potatoes. The rest doesn't seem worth money or space it takes to store.
The potatoes and milk are ok. The rest, no thank you.
