Business Consultant Says US Tariffs on China 'Symbolic'
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 тра 2024
- Cameron Johnson, senior partner at consulting firm TidalWave Solutions, says US tariffs, such as on personal protective equipment, don't hurt China much as Chinese firms can sell products much cheaper. He also discusses the difficulties gripping Chinese manufacturers. He speaks with Yvonne Man, David Ingles and Stephen Engle on "Bloomberg: The China Show."

The world is starting to wake up to Americas bullshit.

This is a response to Chinese BS. You totally missed the point or you are a Chinese bot..
Even if US doesn't buy Chinese EVs rest of the world will. US is behaving more and more like USSR everyday.
I saw movies where USSR people couldn't get US clothes and couldn't listen to US music. This feels similar.
U.S. is getting more like USSR threatening everybody, Russia is getting more like China having exponential growth, China is more like U.S. in pre 2000 getting more goodwill from the rest of the world.
Imagine u.s. decided to goes into arm race with China like the USSR? 😁😁

Doesn't tariffs make the goods more expensive and ultimately the ones who suffer are the consumers?
Correct. It wont save the US EV industry because US consumers either don't want or can't afford US made EV's.
Obama applied 250% tariffs on chinese solar panels and 500M grants for domestic producers. Many of those companies have failed today.
Using printed money to buy things from China is already a huge advantage to the US. Or the USD will be worthless and inflation will shoot off the roof. This reminds me of Mark Twain‘sTom Sawyer. Tom didn't like the painting job his aunt asked him to do. But when he saw a boy came over, he tried to paint the wall with much interest and seemingly very enjoyable. At the end, the boy used his candy as exchange for Tom's painting job.

It is not just symbolic. The sales of EV and battery is slow now, but the surge is predicted to come soon. And the tariff is to prevent the surge from happening, thus to protect the local car makers

Lots of places build EVs, such as the US, but only one place BUILDS EVs with a capital B. The US builds EVs in the same way that Lotus builds cars in a converted WW2 hanger in the UK, i.e small potatoes compared to the massive EV value chain China has built up over nearly 20 years. China will likely produce over 8 million EVs this year, while the US will produce 10 million CARS, with only a small percentage being EVs. Maybe if the US government goes all in on subsidizing its automotive sector like China did, the US can also build several million EVs per year, 15 years from now, but not today.
What are u smoking ?
We subsidize them . Byd made modern evs .

I know the US have a number of franchises in China like Walmart, McDonald, KFC, Subway, Costco, Starbucks, so on....aside from cars like Buick (with sales drastically slowing down) and Jeep already left. There's really nothing to sell in China except store franchises, which employs a lot of people. I don't see how China's plan to impose tariff on large engine will affect the US, since Buick is built in China. It's BMW and Mercedes that are panicking.
They can ban them like Tik Tok in US.
@@tomtube1012 Unfortunately, banning any of the above franchise: Buick, Walmart, Apple, etc. will mean a lot of people will be out of work since all these companies employ people
@@futo Same can be said about Tik Tok in US. A lot of people will be out of work.
Does it mean Trump trade policy is symbolic? and Biden was wrong back then when he criticised Trump?
The country is running out of money, it has to collect tarrif. Even after tarrif BYD cars, being able to drive 1300 miles should be selled very well in US😂 imparted inow😂
China is stead fast in its diversified developments and progressing steadily that the US can never have a chance to dent it. Other than a physical war, all kind of rubbished wars generated by the US upon China are suicidal to the US. So do not belittle China and be prepared for more defeats.

@@dertythegrower Meh, electric cars existed long before Tesla.
@@johnnyq4260 American exceptionalism bleeds strong ... to the last drop even! It is hilarious to me they think Tesla somehow taught the Chinese how to build EVs when Tesla didn't even set up their factory in China until 2020. So the ENTIRE Chinese automotive industry somehow stole all of Tesla's knowhow starting in 2020, and then ramped up their own production, overnight, and are now dominating the entire global EV market? Sure buddy, keep thinking that.
Maybe step back and consider the fact that Tesla's China factory almost outproduces their other three factories outside of China COMBINED. Why is that? Is it perhaps because only Tesla Shanghai has access to the largest, most comprehensive, and most sophisticated EV value chain in the world? Who built that supply chain? Tesla astutely went to China to take advantage the supply chain which already existed there in order to supercharge their own production and sales, not the other way around.
Tesla is going to get hurt really bad if tariffs are reciprocated. I’m glad I’m not a bag holder
The point is to stop these affordable quality Chinese EVs from getting a foothold to begin with. This guy is missing the Forrest for the trees.
byd without welfare is more priced than Tesla... and byd copies tesla. undeniable reality.
And you are missing the much LARGER forest behind the woods which much up for the US auto market. The fact is affordable quality Chinese EVs are here NOW, TODAY. And they can build a gazillion of them now that they've also cornered the global lithium battery market (and starting to build out the future sodium ion market too). So what are those Chinese automakers going to do when they are shut out of the US market? Spend all their energy sending their cars out to every other corner of the world of course.
Even 20 years ago, the already declining Detroit automotive industry still counted GM and Ford as the world's number 1 and number 2 selling automakers by annual sales. GM and Ford are now down to number 5 and number 6, as they pull out of one international market after another. Within the next 5 years, major Chinese brands such as BYD and SAIC will jump ahead of the Detroit 2 as well. If GM and Ford wants to continue to exist for another 100 years, should they face the Chinese competition head on and outcompete them as soon as possible all across the world? Or do they sit behind an American tariff wall, turn into small regional automakers, and milk every dollar out of making pickup trucks sold to American consumers with 8 year loans?
Perhaps it is a moot point and GM and Ford's decline is irrevocable, since China's manufacturing sector is just so much more competitive at building cars so the war is already lost, and the best you can hope for is putting up the tariffs to sunset the US auto industry slowly over time and keep those jobs going as long as possible. But either way, the tariffs indicate that you acknowledge that severe protectionist measures are the only thing left in the tank against a more competitive auto manufacturing economy across the pacific.
You really didn't get the whole point.😂
@@tren133 you are preaching to the choir. The tariffs are such a desperation move. The American auto dinosaurs are facing a Chinese manufacturing asteroid.
