Well, yes and no The SCP in “The SCP Foundation” is Secure, Contain, Protect. The SCP in actual SCPs (I.E. SCP-109) does stand for Special Containment Procedure. It’s wierd
@@sentient_trash since there's no actual canon i can't really dispute that fully, but from my history being into scp the past 10 years or so i always thought it'd make more sense for it to be the Special Containment Procedures Foundation because of how old it is. The Foundation has been around long enough I doubt that snappy motto would have been there at the beginning. Special containment procedures is a more bureaucratic dry term that would likely appear at the organization's founding imo.
@@sentient_trash also in real life special containment procedures was in the original 4chan post the whole project is based on, but secure contain protect was not
Someone PLEASE help me, I’m trapped in some giant facility and a gigantic screen just turned on revealing some sort of neon skull jigsaw. And now he’s explaining his vaguely similar hyperfixation
SCPs are definitely a thing that I’ve been too intimidated by to get involved in. I never have actual SCP numbers memorized, but I know my favorite SCP is the guy who just randomly and completely stumbles across SCP Facilities on accident. And there’s a little transcript of one of the soldiers who appeared on the scene for signs of a containment breach, but they just go “Wait, is that…?” “Yeah, it’s me. Hi guys….”
Oh I love this concept, if you know where you found it can you drop a link? There's another somewhat meta scp about a vhs recording of a basketball game where every time it's played, the people in the recording become more aware they're in a recorded video, you might like that as well
I bet that guy’s made some friends in Foundation Security. “CONTAINMENT BREA-Wait, Jerry!” “Bill, what’s goin’ on man? Sorry for spookin’ ya, Y’know how it is”
I deeply enjoy the lore around The Scarlet King and the horror of what one would do to contain something like that, if the ends would ever justify the means
Please continue this series! I love your analysis on weird, creepy media. You have a great way of making me think a little deeper and appreciate more the things I consume.
My introduction to the SCP world was the "there is no antimemetics fundation" book which I'm reading along with the channel J&V who focuses on smaller SCP entries between the book, I'm not going to lie this is a lot more friendly but my way was a fun mess
I always call the McGrath's Corner the Picture of Dorian Grey problem, when a movie tells you about a thing that is horrible or scary but regardless of what they crafted for that, it would never measure up to whatever you're thinking about when told that.
We're eating good today! Also!!! Super excited to see you cover SCP. You're generally a fresh perspective amongst horror youtubers and it's gonna be super interesting to see you bring your style to a classic topic like SCP. Edit: Finished it!!! Holy shit it did not disappoint.
If anyone’s interested in Lovecraftian style horrors, I recommend the stories about Alagadda. 701, 2264, and the Mount Golgotha music (012 I think?) are a good place to start. 035 and 049 are supposed to be related to it as well
I recently started doing this fun thing, where i roll a random number from 0 to 9000, and go and dead that number SCP, its really fun, and doing 2 per day can last up to 15 years if the flow of new ones is big enough
fav one that i found so far is either the concept of religion (3675), or the fridge of random effects (4139), go read em for yourself, very short ones (i came up with the names here, they don't have none)
@modlich_303 funny story, I think I saw in the news sightings of a guy that looks exactly like him in orland.. AGH! ITS INSIDE ME!! ITS SOO PAINFUL AGH!
McGrath’s corner sounds like something that should be a rule of thumb in horror. I can’t tell you how many horror movies take a nose dive JUST BECAUSE they showed the monster or explained the threat. Insidious fell into that trap for me. It was immediately funny when I saw the monster. And more to your point, hiding everything is just as bad. My least favorite horror movie is It Comes at Night wholly because I came out of it wondering what the hell just happened cause we got zero explanation for ANYTHING
I really love this short form introduction. I’ve known and tried to keep up with SCPs for years now and I still feel like I haven’t really scratched the surface and would love to see more information about it. It is such a collaborative and creative corner of the internet to me!!
bro taking me back in the first 50 seconds of the video flashing through all the iterations of youtube horror. I started watching youtube in 2005... so, ive been through it all
lil early so - I can't really directly participate in horror media because I get really paranoid and anxious when the sun goes down, but it's still one of my favorite genres for all the creativity and layered storytelling and in-depth plots. so, thank you for your content!! your videos abt horror let me participate without making myself paranoid and unable to sleep at night 💙
:) Delightful. And I would love to see a deeper dive on some of the different ways SCPs create a horror narrative. This Thing A Quiet Madness Made doesn't have as much redacted content, but it does have the hazy knowledge of what happened and a drip feed of steady tension to heighten the anticipation. (The page also used to have a little audio jump scare but I don't know if that's there anymore.) Meanwhile everyone knows SCP 2316 and its meme phrase, but the combination of having to click the "tonal variance processor", making you personally at fault for gaining this knowledge that will be hazardous to you, and the usage of the little reveals in the footnotes until the end gives you this mixed bag of who you're supposed to trust and whether you're being consumed by the narrative, and speaking of footnotes and such, the Pattern Screamers. The unveiling of their narrative through the collective works creates a splendid dread of where the damn things could be. Also, for me personally, I just think Uncle Johnny is goddamn upsetting. That one gave me the jeebies for weeks for some reason.
SCP-type horror is definitely one of my favorites. The “Using science and tech to contain and understand unknowable horrors” genre of storytelling and horror is peak fiction
Hey, I used to write a bit for the French branch of the Foundation and I'm so glad you consider talking about this rich, dense and cryptic universe ! Can't wait for you to deep dive into some specific ones, love your content man
As far as relative unknowns, I'm always recommending 2673. Start with the Containment Logs for maximum enjoyment. I started reading them on-and-off-and-on-again this year and it's such a delight. Strongly recommend getting into it! :)
In New Mexico, there is a security guard firm that is advertised on a billboard in, I think Roswell, that is called the SCP foundation. Obviously, it has to be in reference to this, but it is kind of funny that there is a security firm in Roswell that would be called that due to Roswell being famous for the "Alien incident" that happened there.
For anyone interested in modern SCP articles, I highly recommend both the ABCs of Death and Phobia Anthology series. There are some absolutely amazing horror pieces that you can find that aren't beholden to the original writing sensibilities of the initial series.
There's some dope modern scps but they mostly feel pretty cinematic and often same-y. The older stuff always felt more like an actual catalog of weird shit and what to do with it
I remember spending an entire day reading and watching videos about SCP when he introduced me to the world. It was so fun! We creeped ourselves out all day. 💗
Hey bro I love your stuff and would love to listen to you cover some of the scp entries. I'm sure people will suggest some cool ones to cover but would love it if you sprinkle in some of the more obscure ones you like yourself or even a small compilation video of a few of them
As a big fan of SCP and your work, my only question is how your style of video scripting would add to an SCP entry rather than take away from it. Volgun adds a lot of atmosphere while not disrupting the format much, and The Exploring Series is good at condensing the work and providing debriefs while not diluting the interesting concepts. Perhaps you cover an often misunderstood SCP and discuss theories? Or you cover an article as well as out-of-universe information about its writing process? Perhaps covering several associated works, or a particular canon? I'd definitely be down for those.
I would love SCP videos. I even have their logo tattooed on my shoulder. I would love a video on the Plague Doctor. He's one of the creatures that I find the most interesting
God, I'm so glad someone is able to explain SCP to me like I'm 5 bc I just could NOT get into it. All I know is the orange slime guy and the evil ikea.
Im not only a massive SCP fan, but ive also written my own SCP for the wiki. 7325. I’d be interested to hear you talk about some of the different canons in depth like Third Law and The Gulf
A bit offtopic but Director's Cut mod for background footage game (SCP CB) brings back that old creepy nostalgic feel of the 2010s SCP horror while making the game much more dynamic. Check it out in free time!
please look into the stories of scp-4231-a and scp-4231-b. i promise you it will make quite the video. also, scp had researchers and foundation staff with their own lore and stories!! recommendations would be dr benjamin kondraki, dr julian iceberg, and dr alto clef. clef and kondraki especially have an interesting dynamic and relationship, as well as a shitton of insane things that happen with them and the two of them. dr bright also used to be known as part of the “stoplight trio”, but his admin and author got banned so not many people talk about him anymore. still, the “dr brights list of things he is not allowed to do” will live forever in my heart
One very big glaring oversight on your side, SCP does not equal Horror. take one of the most popular ones, 999, least horror a thing can be, or the eye-pods. And even beside the cute ones, there is 2699, and tis just a collection of malformed animals, not scary, not at all, a cat-behaving raptor is peak fiction, no horror
Just an idea: I would love if you started breaking up videos into a bunch of small parts that come out frequently, and then doing a master cut with all of them put together with a handful of extra sections slipped in. I know I'd watch all of it twice, especially if there was new content mixed in!
4:50 "Blink" and SCP-173 came out within weeks of each other in June of 2007. Ya goof. There is a whole other can of worms about whether people say "weeping angel/the weeping angel thing" or "peanut/SCP-173/the SCP thing" when referring to a monster that can't move while you maintain eye contact. I find generalist nerds say "weeping angel" while internet/video game nerds say "SCP".
If you do cover specific skips, please avoid the deluge of spooky monster early entries everyone knows in favor of newer and much more considered entries.
Hey, you're not supposed to be using that picture of 173 anymore. It never should have been associated and the current policy on the wiki is to not associate with the image due to user misuse even after concessions from the sculptor.
