Wonderful reminder of Caballe's amazing understanding of how to sing bel canto Rossini.Beautiful understated cadences & liquid coloratura. Horne unsurpassed as Arsarce. What a voice! Nice traditional production. Story rather absurd as it is is set in Assyrian times. ! Really enjoyable . Thanks for posting on youtube.

Does anyone know the EXACT date of this performance? It was done in Théâtre de la Cour de l'Archevêché, Aix-en-Provence, in July-August 1980 and also broadcast by Radio-France in STEREO (the video is mono only). Various sources indicate the following four possibilities: 15, 19, 23 July 1980 and 23 August 1980. So which one is it? The Aix Festival archive only specifies the date of the premiere - 15 July 1980 - and that's it.
The costumes are weird, but the strong voices compensate. E.g., the trio beginning at 16:12 is well executed and a lot of fun, except for the lack of sync between the visuals and sound track.
