Dollar Tree Shore Living Beach Theme Wreath - Curly Loop Method - Easy DIY Wreath

I am loving the new Shore Living line from the Dollar Tree!!!
Last week, I did a little 3D Beach sign and this week, I am making a beach themed wreath using the Dollar Tree deco mesh and the curly loop method.
MATERIALS USED:
6" Deco mesh - 6 rolls in total - Dollar Tree
14" Wire wreath frame - Dollar Tree
Pipe cleaners - Dollar Tree
Wooden anchor - Dollar Tree
Starfish - Dollar Tree
Nautical rope - Dollar Tree
Twine - Dollar Tree
Acrylic paints - Dollar Tree
Paint brush - Dollar Tree
Scissors
Glue gun
Glue sticks

I just love this wreath! The colors are awesome. Just enough decorations, and so neatly done. You’re always so neat and precise. I’d like to ask you how you clean your brushes for, MOD PODGE, CHALK PAINT AND ACRYLICS and wood glue. I having the darkest time getting them clean. I put them in water and also clean with hot water and soap. The ones with glue never seem to get rid of the stickiness. It’s getting very expensive buying brushes all the time.
Thank you so much Gizmo. I'm so glad you enjoyed the wreath. Yes, cleaning brushes is always a hard thing...and costly sometimes too if it doesn't work. For my acrylic paints, I just use warm water and a tad bit of soap. That usually cleans them out really well. For products like mod podge and glues, that's a little more difficult. I use nail polish remover and let the brush soak in it for about 30 to 60 minutes. Then I take it out and wash it with warm water and soap. I find that works best for me. Hope that helps. For a sunset wreath, I would try to find an ombre red/orange/yellow mesh...or maybe use those three colours and do an ombre effect on it. That would be cool for a sunset them. Maybe with sunglasses and a really fun yellow and orange bow to represent the sun. Something along those lines. :)

will you do a wreath using the shore living starfish burlap - I am struggling , I want to do half the wreath using the white colored rope and the burlap. I cut a strip of burlap and tried to do the rope ribbon method you used for a Valentine wreath, but then not sure what to do for the other half of the wreath . Help . the mesh is cute but so want the rope :-) TFS xoxo
Hi Connie, that sounds like a fantastic idea. The Dollar Trees in my area are limited stock supply as we Canadians do not get half as much as the American stores, BUT I will take a look in the near future and see what I can get my hands on. Can you spray something on it so it doesn't get damaged by salt water ????
Hi Pat. I have heard of people using a spray varathane. I have never used one before as I have heard sometimes it can make the colours "yellow". I know there are clear varatanes out there as well. If you're going to try that, maybe use some scrap pieces first to test it out. Hope that helps a bit. Thank you.
is there a trick to keeping the loops in a tighter curl or roll. I have tried to keep them tight so ends don't go so crazy? Thanks, even tried a quick spritz of spray starch
Hi there, the only thing I can think of is to roll them tighter, and maybe make the lengths a couple of inches longer so they stay in the curl/roll a little better. I hope that helps out a bit. 😊
Hey dave is that ds mesh ..that mesh sucks it frays so badly so at the completion of the wreath it just looks bad
Hi Priscilla. Yes, this is used with the DT mesh. Their mesh has gotten really bad over the last couple of years. When I first started using dollar store mesh, it was great, but the quality has gone downhill.

How on earth do you keep the mesh from fraying. I tried one other of your dollar tree mesh and mine frayed horribly.
Hi Alice, my mesh still frayed, but I rolled it up into those curls to hide most of it. Unfortunately, the Dollar Tree mesh these days isn't as good as it used to be.

Wish you would consider how the back looks because my front door is all glass. If I hang it on door you see the back
Hi Leslie, I hang my wreaths on my front door as well and it is glass. I don't mind the look of it, as normally people see the front first. If you want to finish off the back, you can always use a piece of fabric, or flet, and just attach it to the reverse side to hide all the attachments. Hope that helps. Thank you.
I use the round placemats from DT to cover the back of my wreaths. Gives them a nice finished look. They have a lot of colors so you should be able to find one that matches. Even just a light brown would look like sand.
Well, I hope my bundles look as good as yours, because this was absolutely the worst thing I have attempted! The wire does not roll nearly as easily as you show, and the ends are so scraggly, it is terrible. The mess of pieces of plastic needles all over was a pain, they hurt!
Hi Sue, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with the deco mesh. Deco mesh is a little messy with all those little needles around. I know DT deco mesh has that issue a lot. Hopefully you are not discouraged with wreath making and still continue. Take care.

It's perfect, looks like a gray metal anchor. Love the details on the starfish. I found a real one on the beach just colored like the brown one you did, great memories for me.
