"It's not a privilege to take a break from everyone else's problems but an imperative" this is what some intellectuals overlook, modestly speaking, it's that most of us face financial difficulties, all kinds of discrimination, risk of illnesses and are in need of temporary relief from all that. That is an innate feeling most humans have and in a world that has only gotten rougher, taking a break is becoming a necessity and it should be recognized as such instead of guilt tripping those who want a break.
Why must everything be an indictment of "intellectuals"? I know plenty of less educated, working-class people who plaster ribbons all over themselves and their social media pages. It's a societal issue that crosses education and income boundaries. You know which cultures came to prominence by constantly declaring war against their progressive intellectuals? Oppressive Muslim countries like lran and Saudi Arabia, who marginalized and even jailed their progressive scholars and replaced them with faith-based populists. I fear America is going down that road. In America's most successful decades, we embraced education and especially science. Now, we denigrate intellectuals and have replaced common-sense scientific reason with religious faith and conspiracy theories.

Thank you, Bill! I thought I am the only person who refuses to wear a pink ribbon in the office on a cancer awareness day. I told the organizers of this pink ribbon thing at work that I would rather donate money to cancer research and suggested that they do the same. But ribbon costs nothing and shows everybody else who is a good person, while donation is not visible to the world, and does cost some $ or $$, depending on your degree of generosity.
Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer got the daylights beaten out of him because he didn’t want to wear the AIDS ribbon. Just because a person doesn’t wear a ribbon doesn’t mean they don’t care. They hit on to that early.
I used to be a bank teller. Every October, we swapped out our blue deposit receipts for pink ones, gave out pink ribbon cookies in the lobbies, and had to wear pink shirts every Friday for breast cancer awareness. They also put giant pink ribbons on the outsides of all the branches. It was insane. I was the only one who refused to participate in pink shirt Fridays in support of my late grandmother, who was fighting breast cancer at the time and couldn't stand all the awareness bullshit. She was getting spam calls and mail constantly from Susan G. Komen and similar organizations asking for donations while SHE herself was fighting breast cancer. It used to infuriate her, and rightfully so!
March is also National Kidney Cancer Awareness Month. I know this, because I'm a childhood kidney cancer survivor (Wilms tumor). I used to raise awareness until I saw the pissing match between "advocates" on social media. They all use each other's children to improve their own "image," and they're STILL doing it. It's disgusting.
And let me go on record saying "don't give the following people your money thinking it will help" >>>> "Komen reported that its CEO earned $565,048 of compensation from the Foundation and related organizations during 2016 on its Internal Revenue Service tax return. It also reported that 14 other employees each earned more than $175,000 of compensation, bonuses, retirement benefits, and other benefits..." half a million dollars a year for what is supposed to be charitable? ummmmmmm...nah.
As an activist and radical even I am sick of all the awareness and virtue signaling in all aspects of life. Sometimes I just want to watch a hockey game or soccer match. Why is this happening? In my opinion our elite (bureaucratic, economic and political) do not want to make a better world. But they certainly want everyone to think they are doing so.
The Elite, are just people. And most importantly they believe this dumb bullshit like the average woke jerk. But like the average woke jerk they don’t want to do anything that would inconvenience them.

I know, you'd think the studio audio engineer would figure out to duct or mute the overhanging audience microphones in that guys section.
@@MTG776 or just doing it the old school way and telling him to shut the fuck up and edit that part out seeing as the show isn’t live Lol
So annoying. His audience is pretty brain dead at the best of times, but that guy is on another level.
Ya he’s so annoying
Read this comment as it happened in real time. ☠
Loving Bill lately, his perspective is so accurate right now!
hits the nail on the head again. Raising Awareness = Keyboard Activist
This reminds me of Bill Burr's rant on Conan
Exactly! The NFL stopped doing pink uniform stuff years ago he is way late on this
It was from one of his specials
@@davidkramer333 they still wear pink socks and such
Also kinda along the lines of Anthony Jeselnik's "don't forget about me today" bit
Except Bill Burr is so funny.
The problem isn't awareness of problems its the lack of avenues to do anything about them and the powerful that benefit from lack of awareness and ability to do anything about them
A passive and apathetic population is an unquestioning consuming population. When the only time your engagement is solicited is at election time, you know the goal is to teach that political activity is futile.
Irony is, I wasn't aware March was all of these things, until Bill told me.
Makes two of us. Mother's Day passed without even me realizing it. Lol
You're the one who raises awareness on perspectives are serious issues
You are so talented and right!
Kinda like that scene in Airplane! where Robert Stack's character kicks the crap out of all of those people taking donations to raise awareness about everything.
loved it too.
His response was perfectly appropriate
National pretzel day. "Everyday i wake up in a bed too small, drive my daughter to school thats too expensive, and go to a job that pays too little, but Pretzel day...thats alright."
Well I like Pretzel Day.
Well said Stanley!

There are som “whatever day” I don’t mind...like PI (as in math pi sign) day. We get pizzas for $3.14 from our favorite pizzerias :)
wouldn't need awareness if anyone in power was interested in doing something about it
You're on fire. Love your most recent work Bill!

If you don’t give...someone else will. 😅
They don’t really ask - they kind of guilt you into donating by showing a picture of a undernourished kid in some third world country or a poor dog in an animal shelter cage or getting soaked in the rain at night. They know how to get you to open up your wallet.

Except the world isn't getting rougher...
@@hutch1197 I hadn't thought about it that way but excellent point. I too am worried about the direction the US is heading. We all have a lot on our plates right now but on a similar note I believe saving our democracy must be our number priority. The GQP doesn't even try anymore to be the Republican Party of old. They've made it clear they are willing to throw away democracy for power and authoritarianism. Not to say that the Democratic Party doesn't also have problems as it too is corrupt and needs reform but at least they aren't for a coup against our own government.
@@IMSiegfried I agree 100% on all points. The Republican Party has realized that they can't win on policies anymore (turns out people are no longer buying the myth that holding wages down and giving more money to rich people is the solution to our economic problems) , so now their entire strategy is simply gaining power at any cost. And like their Muslim authoritarian counterparts, the GQP is using populist faith-based propaganda to line up their blind soldiers.
@@davidlenz9902 Yep. Just because we're detecting more cancer, doesn't mean cancer is more prevalent than 1950. It's just people aren't "dying of old age".
And Civil Rights movement. That was only in the 60s. Jim Crow laws was straight up still in force.
Today is far from perfect, but things are improving at a slow rate.
Looks like Bill Maher finally got around to watching Bill Burr appearance on Conan from a few years back. Better late than never.
yeah.... almost exactly like Burr's rant.
This was a Stanhope but before then
Finally people have had enough of PC. You’ll see more push back now. We are sick of it!
People have been sick of PC for years. Bill has pushed back from the start, as has a ton of others in the media (see: South Park).

It's like my friend who bought a purple Tshirt in October for Spirit Day. She got mad because I didn't buy one, too. I told her I support LGBTQ but don't need a Tshirt to tell everyone.
As a member of the LGBTQ community I much rather you support us by voting in politicians who won’t try and remove our rights. I honestly don’t require allies to wear a shirt announcing it to be considered allies, so you can tell your friend you’re not insulting us by not buying tshirts lol
@@stevebonk8995 As you are speaking for the LGBTQ community in your post, could you please stop with the "considering people as allies"? It just smacks too much of "if you jump through all those hoops, we let you into our club as an honorary member and you can brag about it in front of your peers".
Just call those who treat you well friends and those who don't assholes - and do it as an individual and not as a group. Thank you.

"Raising awareness", AKA marketing
Yep. I worked once for a tobacco company and 'mass awareness' activities meant walking around giving away free cigarettes to promote the brand.
For their causes they have to show proof of. Which they do. The money goes to the cause. Can't help it that bill has a platform and only uses it to cry over everyone and everything else!!!!! Lmao

This is why Maher is way ahead of the curve compared to other talk show host. His ability to be comic about even the most banal things is refreshing.
He is doing what he accuses others of doing, virtue signaling.
What's really refreshing is that he managed to do it without insulting any large swaths of people of a particular political persuasion. If he keeps it up, folks may actually start watching him again.
@@krazykitty7277 Except for the woke and PC authoritarians (who, fortunately, aren't a particularly large swath of people).

Bill Maher is the best ever. He really is a comedic genius.
Love you Bill and Budweiser.
I just said this last October, "At this point, who doesn't know cancer is a thing to be aware of?"
How can one Not be aware of it? Especially now that drug makers are advertising on tv. Ask your doctor about Blah blah blah!
Really! And how much money do they need to raise to fight it? They started this decades ago, now it’s all gravy. Ppl are paying for their own treatments, so what’s the point of giving to a cancer charity?🤷🏽♀️

So, does that mean that lowering awareness of death is the other religions? Or is that still budweiser?
Yes. Very true.
Stoicism
I'd say Christianity is too. They're always pushing about where you go when you die.
It's the new way to be good.
It gives corporations the chance to 'express their concern' while awareness of slavery, tax avoidance and general unconscionable behaviour can go under the radar.

I will chill Bill! Don't wanna wait till April! 💖😜😘
I soooo agree with this segment!
@@cityhawk The lady tells him, "you have to wear a ribbon" and Kramer says, "now that's why I don't want to wear a ribbon."

Why do restaurants always put the cocaine next to the pepper. Lol.
Could be dangerous if your eating hot pizza.
WHICH IS WHY I CUT THE CORD, stopped watching live tv, and only skim through Utube as I backtrack to AVOID ads...
"Let me go on record and say I'm against breast cancer"
And let me go on record saying "don't give the following people your money thinking it will help" >>>> "Komen reported that its CEO earned $565,048 of compensation from the Foundation and related organizations during 2016 on its Internal Revenue Service tax return. It also reported that 14 other employees each earned more than $175,000 of compensation, bonuses, retirement benefits, and other benefits..."
half a million dollars a year for what is supposed to be charitable? ummmmmmm...nah.
But like the average woke jerk they don’t want to do anything that would inconvenience them.
because the left kept pushing on things they didn't need to like chemically castrating children or rioting across the country destroying lives that had nothing to do with an agenda.
Like the "woke" movement appearing and replacing the fighting against the sex**l abuse culture in Hollywood. Easier to cancel people over an old tweet than put important people in jail over rape.
“Put down the milk and get out there and crack my cold case” - omg, I haven’t laughed that much since before Covid.
