I'm Filipino and now I'm practicing my hands on writing Baybayin, it's an ancient Filipino script before our ancestors learned the Alphabet, as much as I love my mother tongue, writing it in Baybayin is more difficult than speaking it -- because one word is indeed long. Like, name --> pangalan, born --> ipinanganak.. etc.,.

In saying I LoVe you in tagalog there are many ways:
obsolete way: iniirog kita or iniibig kita
    casual way:
    mahal kita
    liking or having a crush:
    gusto kita
all of them have same meaning it is still depend to you how you should use it.
In Introduction there many ways also:
    like:
    (very welcoming esp to tourist)
    Mabuhay!
    Saying Hi:
kumusta ka ako ay si (name)
    formal
Ikinagagalak kitang makilala. [ako nga pala ay si (name)] Ang pangalan ko ay si (name)

The filipino guy is obviously not use to speaking the language most of those phrases do not have an exact translation or there is ( i just didn't know ) or maybe it depends on how you say it or how you want to be received. Like the phrase "Long time no see" when you directly translate it, it would be very long "ang tagal na na nating di nagkita" but we don't often say that most of the time it's as simple as "oy kumusta na!" And it will send the message that's it's been a while. And most of the phrases can be relayed TagLish ( english - tagalog ) so you don't directly translate english to tagalog cause you'll end up sounding very awkward or very inappropriate.

    • @jeromevidallon
      @jeromevidallon 8 років тому

And it's should be "Salamat sa Panonood" which directly translate to "Thanks for watching"

Honestly? Filipinos will often mix Tagalog and English words, that's why there's this language called "Taglish" here. Like when translating "Hello, my name is ____. Nice to meet you," direct translation would be "Kumusta, ang pangalan ko ay ____. Masaya akong makilala ka." However, people prefer introducing themselves more casually, "Hi, nice to meet. Ako [ay] si ______" which is just "Hi, nice to meet you. I'm _______." We like keep our sentences as short as possible, too. Haha.
A foreigner will survive not knowing how to _speak_ Tagalog if they ever come here in the Philippines, as long as they know how to speak English. But! Even if they don't know how to _speak_ Tagalog, it wouldn't do them any good either if they can't _understand_ the language when visiting here. Many of us have the tendency to mix the languages.

Wait a minute, Filipino guy's translation (Sorry, I didn't catch his name. "Kayu?") isn't that bad? Yeah, the introduction was too formal and literal but the rest isn't that bad.

Filipino languages are very closely related to Indonesian and Malaysian languages. As a Filipino, to me, Bahasa sentences sound like shortened Filipino sentences. The nouns are mostly the same, but your verbs have less affixes.

although im filipino, I think learning tagalog is harder than learning korean. I tried learning japanese before too because my cousin is half japanese and she influenced me (I know basic only). chinese is also hard because the pronunciation and the characters. but seeing this I realized that tagalog has so many variations that is really hard to learn and remember especially there is no rule on when to use it or how to us it but its just depends on the word and you'll have to learn one by one.

Hangul and Tagalog are pretty hard to learn, wanna know why?, Hangul has many translations in just a word (Formal/Informal) some words are just easy translating it to Formal because of the 'yo' and 'imnida' at the end. but some words hindi pwede sa yo at imnida kaya iba ang translations. Tagalog has many translations by sentence (I guess) because of some English words inserted and it is like yung ibang words malalalim na kaya parang pag pinagaralan mo na ngayon masyado ka nang out of place because of today's generation tagalog sentences. unti-unting nagbabago.

I'm a Filipino and can understand them all lol and it was all because I grew up watching anime and I have deep interest with Kdramas and Kpop about 8 years ago so I did some self study on those languages. As for Mandarin, it wasn't something I'll personally choose to study cause it seemed so complex but I had the opportunity to study it in our college years since it was part of thr curriculum so I can understand basic/most commonly used sentences, and turns out it was actually easy to learn 👍🏼

For some reason (even though I’m Filipino), Japanese is the easiest to pronounce in general unbiased terms. It’s not like Tagalog with repeated vowels or syllables, Chinese with tones, and Korean with very closed mouth sounds.
