People have belittled Grainger as a folksy-salon pianist - snobbery. Beethoven arranged popular songs, Chopin arranged Polish dances [ mazurkas, polonaises waltzes] Bartok arranged hungarian folk songs. But when Percy does it, using the most astonishing contrapuntal writing [the piano writing in the two climaxes is breathtaking] people sneer.
Magic. Like a familiar walk where you catch a glimpse of a beautiful view you never noticed before and stop to take a quiet look. Sounds like he was hanging with some cool french cats....
I fell in love with this piece the first time I heard it (in woodwind [as Grainger puts it] "fivesome" form). I loved it so much I programed it on my Senior Recital (again, woodwind quintet version). Thirty years later and it's still as lovely as it ever was regardless which version I hear.
Everything Grainger wrote is a minor masterpiece - one can listen again and again and discover new beauties in each piece.
How true your words are.

I too love this piece the more i hear it. It's very similar to a couple of Poulenc's piano pieces. Thankyou for uploading it.
Beautiful piece, thanks for uploading! Slight influence of blues in there as well? Great performance by Penelope Thwaites
I'm in love!!! Thank you for the uploading!!❤
Wonderful
Grainger at his most lyrical and unusually restrained .
Thanks for sharing this!
It occasionally sounds like a variation on Molly on the Shore..
Is 1:30 a Ravel quotation?
Swag!
