Just come across this. I came across an old Roland A 50 back in December and using it to control the JDXi is brilliant (especially as it has after touch)
Does that keyboard have after-touch? I have the A-800 which does. The JD-Xi can use after-touch even though it's own keyboard doesn't have it which is weird. The A-800's sliders and control knobs can control the JD-Xi's parameters even the ones that need menu diving.
That's some cool soloing you're doing in this track, Solitude, 👍‼️ Looks like that midi keyboard works great. Now maybe you could cut off the keyboard part of the JD-Xi and mount it to the midi 'board with wood or plastic. That's what I would do, I like making homemade stuff like that.
Hi. Your great vidéo Maude me want to Buy me the A49 as a fullsize Keyboard companion to my beloved JD-Xi. Unfortunately, I cannot find out how to get them to work together without a computer. Dis I miss something? Can you help me? Thank you!
Hi Thank you for the comment The A49 needs power supply via USB cable only can connect a PC. And you will need another MIDI cable to connect your JDXi, whereas A49 has one MIDI out port that can be plugged in to your JDXi input port. PC for power supply to A49 is necessary
Thank you. I read on the internet that a phone charger could supply the power to the A49 hence my question. I Will try with a laptop then thank you again.
Try changing the A49 transmit channels. Basically the JDXI has these hardwired midi channels per instrument part. Ch1: digital synth 1 Ch2: digital synth 2 Ch3: Analog / mono synth Ch10: drum kit I think also check the jdxi is set to omni? I think thats right, or its the other setting so it can receive on seperate channels individually not one channel all at same time. Then to play the respective part from your A49, just change its midi transmit channel to 1, 2, 3 or 10. Strangely the jdxi also has a ‘global’ midi channel that can be 1-16 to transmit and receive sysex and bank settings. I think if you’re dumping sysex or transmitting bank changes from the jdxi to your DAW or midi sequencer you can set a channel other than the hardwired ones. But ive not played with that. In theory that should work. 😮
@@solitude7360 I wanted to get Roland's keyboard too, it feels very sturdy, but had not enough money at a time. Then I've bought the Alesis and was very surprised by the quality of the Q49 actually. After a while I am sure that it is the best ever MIDI keyboard in terms of quality/price ratio. And it is much quieter than the A49.
@@solitude7360 I understand. But I love my JD-Xi so much that it was very frustrating for me to feel that it is broken, even if it is one key. So I've fixed it. I guess you can order even the entire keyboard module replacement via official service.
Great demo thank you! I need a bigger keyboard for my jdxi and this looks perfect ( and I love Roland stuff!). Could I just ask as a midi novice, is the midi mapping of the 4 parts to the A49 intuitive or complex?
Hi, lobikmoj, Thank for the comment and question. A49 mapped the midi channels automatically, Ch1:Digi.synth1, CH2:Digi.synth2, CH3:Analog Synth, Ch10: Drums. And I could change the channel using buttons on the midi keyboard. But, I could not use step rec. pattern sequence of JD-Xi via A-49. I just recorded using real time rec.
@@solitude7360 so I got myself one of these. Perfect for my needs! Shame about only having real time record but not a big deal. One question though are you changing channels via function button and relevant key or is there another way I’m not seeing?

Thanks! Our A49 was unhappily collecting dust. Now both it and the JD-Xi are happy. Us,too. Cheeeeers
Wow I have the Sammie jd-x I and the pearl white a-49 !!!!
Same not Sammie

Love my Jd-xi but looking for a large keyboard too. The instrument is very powerful, but I struggle with the mini keys
YOU ROCK

Thank you for the compliment!! and Nice idea!
Yep! Amazing idea for a cool project! Sounds good btw.
タイトなキックとスネア、シーケンスのパンニングとディレイ、シンセのフィルターの開閉、すべてがマッチしてとても心地よいですね。

Brilliant
A midi controller is a great addition to have full size keys. It’s disappointing that it does not work with the chord function. 😕
Thanks for your comment!
Yes. I'm not happy about a lot of things about the limits of the function.
can you tell me how you got that to work. ive been struggling to make that happen since a few of my jdxi keys broke
fantastic!!!! is the roland jdxi released which year?
January 2015. It totally kicks ass.

How does the connection work?

They Are connected by a simple midi cable.

JD-Xi mudi in

ありがとうございます!恐縮です
I use the cheap and lightweight Alesis Q49 for the same. It also can transmit MIDI via selected channels.
Nice choice. Q49 is more reasonable than mine.
I bought the A49 second hand ¥8000 that is same price of new Q49.

@@solitude7360 The A49 feels sturdier, of course, but the Q49 was the cheapest MIDI keyboard. it is very good for how cheap it is.
This is awesome!
Thanks!
I repaired the keybed of my JD-Xi via obtaining the spare parts from official service in my city. It cost me few bucks literally.
I wish I had done that too. But I found that a big keyboard is easier to play.

Yes! But it can't comtrol with step input.

Does the jdxi allow you to play higher or lower than its octave scale on the midi keyboard or is it restricted to 2 octaves?
Hi, yes, it allows higher and lower octave!

Because my keybord was broken.
