BV, your spot on. When i did the rv life. I found people who stay in paid camping were, for the most part, safe to be around. The nomads staying on free public lands is where i had the most problems. Yes, there are some good people. But, i estimate 60 percent suffer from mental illness and drug addiction. Some are criminals hiding from law enforcement. It's not safe at all.
I agree with you. I felt more comfortable staying in Federal/Provincial Campgrounds.and some private campgrounds. Lots of families and old timers like us. Have to admit, if they had services in the site, I paid for them all and hooked up. 😁

Just because it worked for Bob or Tim, doesn't mean it works for everyone. It's like going to an Optometrist to get a pair of glasses, and him handing you his personal pair of glasses and saying, "These worked great for me, wear these!"
More drama=more views. A little common sense goes a long way. I like my little rural neighborhood. When we get the urge to travel we jump on the bike and go. You have to be vigilant no matter where you are. We've had unscrupulous characters at motels. Not often, but it happens. Take care!

I live down the road from the area she is talking about. That place is a mess with RV's full time , like its their new neighborhood. Locals don't go near it.
Gross and disgusting that RVbob encourages anyone to live the homeless van life. If you're broke and living only on SS, move to a state that has openings in low income senior apartments. Most of those apartments allow 55 and older renters. My mother was very poor but lived comfortable in her low income apartment for about 15 years before her death.
It's not easy to get into low income housing plus in some states low income housing isn't very low like Florida rent is $900 for low income housing and my check is only $914 a month no way could afford it@@AnnMitt

The world isn't as safe as it was 50 yrs ago. Maybe even 10 yrs ago. It's all about awareness of your surroundings. If I car camp , I park facing out. In case I need to exit. Walk around your area, scout out your neighbors and be prepared. Trust your instincts. If it doesn't fell right leave.
When we’re off camping I just stay off social media (for the most part) broke that this past trip for about 2 seconds when ‘switchitup’ pulled into our camp ground…had to see what that was all about! Talk about a house on wheels! Our little dimmy boy would have been in their face with his camera like flies on shit! 53’ rig!!! Incredible rig! Curiosity got the better of me & I had to look! But otherwise - I don’t want anyone (but those watching the homestead) to know we’re gone or where we are! (Ps - immm baack😂😂 playing catch up now)
😂😂I just had a situation happen and the last thing I thought about was picking up my camera and recording it. I’m such a rookie. I’ll do better next time. 😂😂
I call BS on nomadic lifestyle being dangerous. Just like another way of life you have to pay attention to your surroundings and always be prepared. I'm going out on the road later this year and looking forward to it!
Except I know my neighbors. I know who the SA’wrs are. Due to the law I can carry and defend my property. My fences work. My security cameras see everything. My dog protects his yard. And I know the sheriff personally. If we have a new person show up we know it. If someone merely walks down our road we know it. Plus I have brick between me and any thing shot my way, and plenty of things to respond with likewise which was hugely limited in our camper. I felt fairly safe because we were parked in friends property but otherwise I’d have felt like a sitting duck. No. Sticks and bricks are much safer.
I left AZ one month ago, and am now on the OR coast. The scariest thing I've seen are the vehicles parked at the beach, with clouds of pot smoke pouring out the windows.... and then getting on the highway to drive.

This video reminded me of the sad ending to a senior couple from Edmonton, Alberta. Lyle and Marie McCann were hijacked by a male after stopping to get gas for their motorhome, on their way to visit family in BC. The perpetrator was drug dependent, and eventually was caught and put in jail for a period of time. The motor home was found burned out down an old logging road. The bodies of the couple were never found. So sad.
Some people have no instincts I have em I have a vibe meter in my head and I keep my awareness when I'm out but I also stay to familiar safe areas I know too
