Cav, the greatest sprinter of all time, no doubt. To beat the best in the world -- guys 20 years younger than him -- at 39 is a testament to his grit, work ethic, and talent. Chapeau!
I really respect Johan, but his rationale "he can't do it now" is why Cav was rejected by so many teams, having to basically go around begging for a place. He always delivers, despite all these doubters. What a rider. GOAT.
JB love the insights, here’s a question. You mentioned the power numbers this young riders are putting out. Just for perspective what are the current power numbers for the crew on The Move and Johans? What were their numbers when they were racing.
Sadly, for me at least (Huge freaking fan), the quote "I suppose a fire that burns that bright is not meant to last" never made so much sense as to when you look back to Peter's career
Greetings from Sri Lanka. Congratulations Sir Mark Cavendish the greatest sprinter all time. How about a few more wins Sir. Can't believe my eyes watching the finish. 👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Johan has his a** hurting thinking about Vino... bro congratulate the guy. He did a good job. We forget the 1st stage where the whole team was babysitting Cav for 150km...
Superb podcast Johan a legend and Jimmy brings it all together, love to hear you both, especially when Sir Mark rode himself into the history books, what a sprinter! Thanks guys
I find Johan’s insights particularly interesting. He is able to identify significant details in race tactics or strategy that others don’t appreciate or understand. He is the first to point out Mark Cavendish’s chain consistently popping off at the finish. I just saw a really good slow motion video of that, crazy.
5:00 George always believed in him. Cav is not as powerful as the others - but has a low frontal area, and great instincts/bike handling skills. 35 TDF wins happen for a reason (including 4 in 2021).
Did y'all see that Quickstep rep try to take some credit for Cavs win?? Could y'all imagine the nerve of that guy.... Good for Cav he's not through by any means with this Le Tours stage wins. Great insight as always. 👍🏻🇬🇧💯🚵🏽♀️🇨🇵
hey come on, Cav wouldn't have got close to the record without him and as it stands Quick Step just weren't including a sprinting strategy in their plans, otherwise, you could have seen them including him. I think it was great that Lefevere was so happy and effusive towards Cav.
@@512Squared ...or was there some Belgian nationalistic pride influence/bias (or even pressure?) from 'King Eddy' on Lefevere to leave Cav off of that year's roster in order to protect his 'sacred 50 year old record'?!?
Bini is now in the green Jersey. The only other time I have seen a black rider in a jersey was Daniel T in the Polkadot Jersey in I think 2015. Also, has InterMarchet ever had a Jersey in the Tour?
So what? He competed against a peloton that was 98% nobodies who had no clue about training or nutrition. Cav has beaten all of the greatest sprinters over the past 16 years
I want a list of the guys who have taken 2nd to him. I think that would really speak to how great he is. I mean Jasper, Caleb Ewan, Peter Sagan, to name a few.
2008 Oscar Freire Gerald Ciolek Sebastian Chavenel Robbie McEwen 2009 Tyler Farrar Twice Thor Hushovd Thrice Mark Renshaw 2010 Gerald Ciolek Tyler Ferrari Alessadro Petacchi Twice Julian Dean 2011 Philippe Gilbert Alessadro Petacchi Andre Greipel Tyler Farrar Edvald Boasson 2012 Andre Greipel Matthew Harley Peter Sagan 2013 Edvald Boasson Peter Sagan 2015 Andre Greipel 2016 Marcel Kittel. Twice Andre Greipel Alexander Kristoff 2021 Nacer Bouhanni Jasper Philipsen Wout Van Aert Michael Morkov (Marks Lead out. Jasper took 3rd) 2024 Jasper Philipsen.... Some of them I would like to highlight. Thor Hushovd, Mark Renshaw, Alessadro Petacchi, Andre Greipel (!), Peter Sagan, Marcel Kittel (😮) Jasper Philipsen, and Wout van Aert. And some of the guys that took second to him never ended up winning a stage in the tour. Tyler Farrar took second to Mark four times. FOUR! And ended up winning one individual stage. Quite a career.
In addition to THE MOVE and JB2 I also watch our Slovenian national media Cycling Podcast, and JB2 is miles ahead, I love your objectivity, as you also speak of Pogačar's and UAE's weak sides, and tell it as it is.
First I want to congratulate you guys on a excellent report on stage 5 of the TF the best, all the others are junk. Your comments on Cav well done and the rest of your reporting is excellent I have lot more to say about Cavs win but that’s for a later time. I just wanted to thank you.
Cavendish probably would have hung it up except for the fact that Eddie Meryx was rude to him, back when Cav did NOT achieve that goal of besting his record.
Johan's insights are fabulous - big thanks to both of you. Concerning the chain: Fabian Wegmann, former German pro pointed out while commentating on German TV (ARD) that the chain came off because a) Cav stopped pedaling and then b) Cav backpedaled a bit. Accoring to Wegmann it's normal that the chain jumps off then and that it's Cav's style of riding. What do you think, Johan?
To me it's not so surprising at all. During the sprint the drivetrain is under enormous stress. When the power cuts, the drivetrain "unloads", so to speak, so there's a jolt. Under the right circumstances, with the proper timing, this jolt makes the chain come off. Looks like Mark's style is perfect for this. That slight backpedal might also help. It's a known phenomenon in engineering. This also happened during Saturn V launch. When the first stage shut down, there was a powerful jolt forward. It's even shown in the Apollo 13 movie, albeit a bit inaccurately, for dramatic effect, of course.
I also congratulate Mark Cavendish. It's a good thing that Jasper Philipsen didn't go "full gas"...he could have easily taken the win. Jasper was a real gentleman this time around and gave the win to Mark. Once again, CONGRATULATIONS to both men.
Yep, no doubt all Cav's sprinter competitors in this race were being "gentlemen" and he can count himself lucky to come across so many gentlemen during 165 pro victories.
Question for Johan: When in training, do the teammates also go all out against each other in long climbs? I'm thinking of Ayuso and Pogačar; if so, wouldn't Ayuso know where he is in regards to Pogačar, and if hea has any chance at all? Is it possible that Ayuso's thinking about 'pulling' a Kuss move and that way Pogačar wouldn't be able to attack his own? Is it possible for UAE to have Ayuso as a serious contender (just like Jumbo with Vinge and Roglič couple of years ago) in case Pogačar has a really bad day like last two years?
35 stages in TDF, 17 stages of the Giro and 3 Vuelta wins...that's 55 grand tour stage wins!!!! Cav is and will always be the GOAT! And, he's not done!
I know this will put the "cat amongst the pigeons" , but did anyone else think this victory looked "fishy". Could the peloton have decided to hand this win to Cavandish? Where has he been in any of the previous sprints? Its not like he was even close ... also where were the other lead out trains? I am with Johan , it seemed impossible before and still sort of does....
When you are turning the cranks hard and fast in a small cog and you stop pedaling the chain goes slack as the freehub has to coast now. That takes a second to happen and it all stalls to use a phrase That is worse with some hubs than others but I don’t think it has as much of an effect in a larger cog. Leverage or something. You can come close to doing this in the workstand but watch the fingers. At least that is my observation and experience. But it’s only a rough theory. gg
JB2, Please feel free to address/ignore this because I can see how it is somewhat irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Richard Carapaz is technically the 2nd EF rider in yellow ever, 2011 Garmin Cervelo had Thor Hushovd in yellow for 7 stages. Different era of the team so I understand how it maybe changes things.
He judged by the form of Cav so far, beeing sick few days ago. But Cav is an animal rides purely by instinct, today the stars and planets aligned foe him. When I soid the front camera after they took the right hand turn I started screaming, couldn’t believe my eye😂🎉
