I started using Area of Focus a few months back and it really helps to provide a framework and direction for my projects. Now, what keeps grabbing my attention, David, is that tower of books in your two minutes tips video’s recently. I am fascinated by this tower and expect every moment for it to come tumbling down. Now what Area of Focus should I put this attention grabber in? 😉
Hi Nico, here is an example of the book shelf underneath it.. actually quite nice if you want to display the books in a room www.design-bestseller.de/radius-booksbaum/
Great reminder of 20K on Horizons of Focus. An additional word I include is "role", as that resonates with me as area of focus. Within my GTD system, I've found that the Contexts (@Home, @Computer) are needed to group Next Actions because they oftentimes are physically constrained. For Areas of Focus, I've been using the Tag feature. Then, by clicking on a Tag, I can review all the actions (of one area of focus) across multiple (possibly related) actions/projects.
In my experience of transitioning from the Franklin Planner (Covey) to GTD, the higher levels of the game may have a similar outcome, but the initial engagement strategy is different. GTD has you immediately get everything out of your head, externalize into a trusted system, and then continually ask, "What's next?". It's very much in the present moment, and based on given time, energy and context. Also, GTD is excellent for addressing the ad hoc interruptions in life.
imagine if his dog knocked over that book pile... *_______*
Video was helpful... just your sheer calmness and presence sometimes helps me top refocus

Martijn Damen Thanks for the link. I have something like this for CD’s but never thought doing this for books. I’ll check them out.
Excellent, thanks so much David.
