White hair also means cursed people, like: Allen Walker from D.Gray-Man, Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul or Kuga Yuuma from World Trigger or even Hitsugaya Toshiro from Bleach said that his ice power was like a curse for his childhood, but there are more cursed characters. Also, white, blonde and sometimes black are used for nobles, too. Yu-Gi-Oh! characters' hairs don't mean personalities, they just mean that they are from Yu-Gi-Oh! and probably they have important roles, but this isn't always true like Katsuya Jounouchi who is the best friend of Yugi.
White is either for characters: who have something godly related to them no matter what it is, ice users, noblety or introverted, shy, very reserved characters.
When you think about it, in Japan, blonde hair usually shows that someone is in a rebellion, which kind of fits super Saiyan honestly because it shows their destructive nature
Hair color that's split down the middle or multi colored could signify a split personality, or an eventual change in personality, like Todoroki in My Hero Academia, Sakura in Windbreaker, and Yugio. There's probably more examples
bleached yellow hair, particularly on a Japanese character, is often the rebel personality... and in a conformist society like Japan, this tends to get dunked on a lot as being stupid, especially in older shows. Blonde hair also typically means western foreigner... which again is often dunked on as being stupid or out of touch, especially in older shows. It was really weird watching FMA the first time and most of the characters were blonde... and not dumb... and it was like.... is this anime? lol where did this level of respect come from?!
I wonder what Saiki's pink hair is meant to represent - his personality seems at odds with both meanings you described since he is quite sarcastic while also being very closed-in. I wonder if that was on purpose - most other characters do see him as a cutesy sort of person in their heads even though he's nothing like that in reality, so maybe it was meant to kind of conflict with what his personality is really like
I think it was on purpose. He wanted to be left alone and not stand out and live a normal life but the point of his design is that he sticks out like a sore thumb despite wanting to blend in and go unnoticed. He’s too bright and too weird and that (unfortunately, according to him) attracts people who are also weird in their own ways, like moths to a flame. But these are the people that Saiki truly fits in with and is, over time, happier to be around-despite all of their quirks-even if he would never admit it. They’re not normal, and in fact most of them are kind of outcasts like him. It’s the opposite of what he aspired to surround himself with, but it’s the kind of friend group he needed. It’s ironic how people like them and the chaos they bring make him feel normal or like he doesn’t have to try so hard to be because they naturally accept him as he is. Pink can symbolize unconditional love and affection, most of the time platonic love when it comes to his friendships, but there is some one-sided puppy love there too. It also symbolizes comfort and happiness. Pink may be foreshadowing to how his life would develop, where before he was alone and thought it would be better and safer that way, but now he has a group of friends that care about him, who he cares about in return.
One of my favorite anime baldies is Ikkaku Madarame from Bleach. His baldness could be seen as foreshadowing to his secret strength, since he's really strong but keeps it a secret or else he'll get promoted to a high-ranked position but he prefers being low ranked because it allows him to stay in the squad he's in lol.
If I had to get my suggestion on Yu-Gi-Oh 's hair color, it is most likely a really dark red that just shows the red on the edges with light hits it. That's why it looks black and then he has golden highlights
Passion doesn't always mean angry. Take Yona from Yona of the Dawn for example, she is determined, but she isn't always angry. Sure, some characters show their passion/determination through anger, but there are plenty that don't.
With the red hair you left out Rias Gremory, with the pink you left out Moka Akashiya, with the blue you left out Nagisa Shiota and with the purple hair you left out Mizore Shirayuki.
Would love to see an actual study on this compiling a list of all (or just many) anime characters and various charateristics named here and see how well it actually maps.
My personal theory about the meaning of Yugi's hair mostly goes to Atem (The Pharaoh), bc his hair is blonde and purple-magenta-ish, the blonde standing for sand and Egypt, the shape of his hair also looks like some pyramids standing in perspective, the purple stands for royalty bc back then purple was an expensive color to make (a looooooong proces) so the Egyptian royalty. Yugi is somehow related to Atem and so they have the same type of hair
This feels very contrived. Like an anime hair colour zodiac system. The reality is it’s just part of the character design and just like any other element of character design it might tell you something about the character.

The perfect example for the differences of blue hair would be Kuroko no Basket I guess. Kuroko has very light blue hair, whos whole personality and playstyle is about being calm and inconspiquous. Aone on the other hand has a very dark blue, being super strong, impulsive and just this power house.
Yugi's hair probably was made to make him stand out, but they could have given him just about any multi-color combination, or even just the style, to make that work. But, I think he was given those specific colors because a) black works as a solid base color, b) gold = royal and gold puzzle he always wears, and c) purple = royal and purple eyes. In short, the colors just compliment the rest of his design while making reference to the pharaoh, who shares his body (and thus has the same hair).
It has been interesting to watch hair color in anime explode over time. Older shows from the early 90s and earlier, hair color was generally coding for nationality; Black/dark brown: Japanese Blue/Purple: Generally non-Japanese Asian, but often specifically Chinese (and yes, often a racist element in early anime of 'not belonging' if not overtly being 'the bad guy') Yellow/Brown: European White/bald: Spirit touched or otherworldly in nature... or conversely an old perv to subvert expectations. But then the 90s hit, and hair color gets much more varied! Really codified are only a couple colors, and typically from real-world tropes, or elements Orange/bleached blonde: Rebel/attention seeking Pink: The pretty one, or generally attention seeking without being rebellious. Also weirdly often codifies as 'emo' in a culture where black doesn't particularly stand out as being emo like it does here in the west. blue/red/white/yellow/green/metalic: Generally elemental undertones But what is interesting is that in the 90s, natural hair colors are typically still assumed to be natural/ethnic by default, and the wild colors are assumed to be unnatural in one way or another. Either an elemental touch, or an alien, or bleached/dyed. Fast forward to the mid-2000s and hair color becomes far more detached from reality! Layerd on top of the pervious 2 movements of hair color design, we get 'temerment' hair colors, from red being hot-headed, to yellow being bright and happy, and blue being more calm or melancholic. But this is more of a coping mechanism and story telling crutch than anything else. In an over-saturated market with literally hundreds of shows every season with 20+ important characters each, it has become important to differentiate otherwise cookie-cutter character design with hues of various colors just to keep audience expectations in check. Hair color is no longer assumed to be literal, but just short-hand to set up audience expectations. Its an interesting abstraction that allows digital artists to re-use a lot of face models across multiple characters and just swap out hair and an outfit to get something new. Its also an interesting abstraction that only drawn media can really get away with, which is a great use of the medium, especially when it can be used on multiple layers of meaning. A fun one with hair color is Ascendance of a Bookworm where hair color plays a role... but hair sheen also plays a role. Doing a 2nd watch through of it with my kids, and started noticing even background characters get the shiny hair treatment as the 'simple all in one shampoo' gains traction as the series progresses. Just a fun little touch that I didn't see at first! But if one thing is clear, it is that we all need TVs with HDR and wider color gamut to properly display whatever wild hair colors will be coming next! Anime will not be constrained to the natural visible spectrum for hair color going forward!
The orange color is usually a bit more different from red than what is said here cause the characters are usually a bit more joyful and friendly (I guess Ichigo would be an exception to this rule). You don't exactly have that with red-haired characters who can even be a bit edgy or agressive. Orange hair characters are usually more lighthearted. But both red and orange hair is usually for very energetic characters. My personal theory on Yugi's hair is that it's supposed to evoke a monster invocation.
Yellow hair being for more western character or to be flashed out. Meanwhile in bizzare little town in Japan, called Morioh, there live an ordinary sallery man, who's supposed to be just the most common japaneese person you could ever meet (who's also trying to blend in as he is secretly serial killer). (Whose little sister Makoto also has brown hair and is normal but high achieving like Akechi.) In reality though, he is responsible for all of the mental shutdowns resulting in accidents, deaths, and apparent suicides that have been happening. He's using an alternate reality called the Metaverse to traverse the "otherside" if you will, of Tokyo, and dispose of trashy adults by killing their "shadow" which is a manifestation of the evil or desperation in someone's heart. He's also a raging psychopath. Or maybe a sadist? Lemme look that up... Yup. Sadist. He probably has a wealth of other mental issues, all stemming from abandonment, having a narcissist parent on one side and a gentle parent on the other who committed suicide, he was bounced around in a terrible foster system and who knows what he experienced in that, and then finally deciding he wasn't about that life anymore, so he just escapes and works hard to make something of himself.
