Fun fact with the last one, it's not just the rulebook and logo that were plagiarised. By the end of the campaign people were finding the original 3d assets they'd ripped off for the renders of some of the minis too (one of the characters was a person's CG fanart of the protagonist of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, for example) That said, I'm amazed we didn't get the Robotech campaign in this list.
@Alison Zable A quick google says that it was a wildly successful campaign that wasn't able to fulfill due to some combination of mismanaged finances and the original license holders not allowing Palladium to renew, and thus make it impossible to create additional product. For some reason the article also mentioned Ninja Division being involved, and they... aren't doing great. Like, I've got my fingers crossed, and they certainly seem to be clawing their way back, but definitely still not in a good place.
A boardgame based on Candy Land and Risk would be awesome! I can see the Baron Licorice raising and army and conquering the gumdrop field and moving toward the candy cane forest.

Most of my tabletop game experiences with Kickstarter have been pretty pleasant. Exploding Kittens, Adorable Pandaring, Secret Hitler, not to mention the upcoming Binding of Issac and Trogdor games (though maybe I should knock on wood for that) but only two games really stood out to me as bad...the first is Big Angry Monsters, a Kickstarter campaign I was so interested in...I backed it twice...and it failed...twice. It's weird though 'cause it seemed like he was doing stuff right, it just didn't get any traction. The second if Thug Life, which had two campaigns. The first asked for a whopping $75,000. Naturally it failed, only raising about $11,000, but they did do a second one where they really revamped the game in a way that looks to be for the best, only asking for $5,000 and raised well over $13,000. Apparently that one is still going pretty smoothly, with an update as recent as two weeks ago that things are moving forward to...I guess that one isn't a failure, just sort of a neat story. Good luck on your eventual game, Slopes. I actually started making a campaign for a tabletop game once, but I never finished my alpha build of the game and didn't want to launch the project without some cool art or prototypes to show for it.
You should check out Meszoica, it was supposed to be a successor to Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, however it ended up being a "dinosaur-sized disappointment." It went from 30$ early access to 99 cents.

From what it sounds like, what the guy trying to set up a Kickstarter for a Kickstarter sounds like he really needed is a bank loan. That's where most people go for a business startup.
I'm not the biggest player these last couple of years due to focusing on YT. I'm sure when I take my Kickstarter live. I will defo do plenty of videos like that to help promo it
If that guy who wanted people to give him money so he could make a game company...If he spent HALF the giving actual details rather than "I can't give you more details" "I don't want to go into more detail at this time" or "I wish I could you more details", people MIGHT have actually given him some money (just not much for obvious reasons)
I was upset about the Cones of Dunshire kickstarter a few years ago. Such a good opportunity and popular following already, it's too bad they asked too much for their game.
1: If it's from a Mexican or Spaniard, it's pronounced: "One-Gee"... 2: Nice company name... 3: That's a dumb idea. That's like making a UA-cam video on a UA-cam video to promote my shit. 4: ...Raging Robot sounds like a drunk Daxter. 5: Shady... But Rising Sands isn't just ordinary sand... It's quicksand!
Take a look at "Darkness Sabotage" from Dethrone Games. It is another one that looks like it would fit in on this list. A really well put together campaign that has some great visuals and videos, even some great looking prototypes. There was some weird stuff at the start with the pricing, but the creator changed a few things and the campaign ended up being pretty massive at over $250,000. At first there were regular updates and the creator seemed to really be invested in making things great, but as time went by, the updates became less regular. Months would go by with nothing, then he would pop in, apologize for the delay and get back into posting nice looking updates. After nearly a year of this, the backers found out that the game had barely even begun production and many things were still in the design phase, leading him to admit that things had been delayed for probably at least another year. Over the course of the following year, updates again became sporadic and finally, there has yet to be a single post or even login from the creator in over 3 months. Numerous backers have tried to contact him and many have filed disputes with their credit card companies and government agencies to try and get their money back. Sucks too because it really looked like a cool game. I have around $400 invested in it myself that I will likely never see, sadly.
I had a witty response for one of these guys but I don't want to get into too much detail about that. After which I'm sure you'll have a witty retort for me but I *heh* don't think you'd want to get into too much detail about that.
I haven't seen the video yet, but I have to mention the ad I saw before I forget it. The was an ad for a Kickstarter over a board game called Lemmify. Considering now poorly animated it was, the irony was not lost on me. Thanks for the amusement, UA-cam's algorithms.
No they can't. Because you give money for something that MIGHT happen and they even tell you that. Of course you can sue and such but good luck with that.
If you do another board game-themed kickscammer video you should take a look into Soda Pop Miniatures aka Ninja Division. Starting with Super Dungeon Explore Legends, their Kickstarters have been a series of slow motion train wrecks.
I did get my add-on wooden dice cubes from the Space Goat: Evil Dead project. I assume they are legit. I back both projects. The IP from Evil Dead would be funny as a board game (if done well) and I was actually looking forward to experiencing the Terminator game's multiple timelines mechanic...
Ah you should have included the saga of Pirate Den, including the antics of Boyan Radokavich and Wil Wheaton. It has it all, back stabs, lies, theft, firings, moves, running away with money, ... and its why I no longer back games on Kickstarter.
I have to say, I always appreciate your music selection. I was happy to hear the old school Tomb Raider theme make an appearance... But i lost my mind when all the sudden I hear music from the old Westwood monopoly PC game. Who knew I wasn't the only one who remembers that game. I still got that shit, the best way to play monopoly to this day; and dat soundtrack is amazing. lol
Another one I can think of was a Doctor Horrible game that hit Kickstarter not too long ago. It looked kinda suspicious in the e-mail newsletter it sent everybody to get the word out about the game. When it finally hit Kickstarter, the art looked like crap and there was no sign Whedon's approval for the project. Later, the Kickstarter was shut down after lots of criticism. The designers were hoping that if the project got funded, the Whedons would be so impressed that they would grant them the license of the game. Incompetence at its finest.
Did you ever look at the HeroQuest boardgame Kickstarter from 2014 (I think)? It ultimately went to a European crowd funder in Spain, I believe. The licensing issues were fascinating, and lead to be being suspended in short order. Given the nostalgia value of the original board game it could be a popular one to cover.
That third guy reminds me a lot of my former roommate. He made a board game many moons ago that was moderately successful, but he's notoriously lazy and hasn't done anything since. I mentioned the idea of a kickstarter to him, since he just had a kid and really needs the money. He liked the idea, but it's been two years now and nothing ever came of it. To be honest, maybe that's for the best...even if he _was_ funded, there's no way he'd ever deliver.
Nah, it's sheer coincidence. It's like that one time I was playing Auto Modellista & enjoyed using the Skyline R30... Then a couple days later, I found a Hot Wheels model (in the original red & black colors) at my local Wal-Mart.
Usually, these happen to me quite rarely... Yet again, I wouldn't bet that there might be a game in the veins of the Dark Cloud games, anytime soon. Anyways, there IS another sheer finding of a Hot Wheels car, this time I was playing HW: Turbo Racing. I went to a hobby shop from outta town, where they sell old HW cars, most of them are packaged. Two of the cars in-game are the Cat-A-Pult & Lakester, and I managed to find both of them... But only the Lakester had it's original red color like in the game.
That whole Valley Games thing really doesn’t make sense to me... if they owed Phil approx.$255,000, asked for only $30,000 on Kickstarter, but got just shy of $340,000 then shouldn’t they have been able to do SOMETHING with the project? I know there are legal fees and there was the other guy that took them to court but they should have been able to pay Phil back... they should have tried to do installments but even if he refused and they had to do it all at once they still should have had enough to do something with the games the received funds for on Kickstarter so their backers received what they paid for, then with the proceeds they received from sale from all the games they had on the market they would have been able to settle up with the other guy as well. Even if they found out they needed more than $30,000 they had over $300,000 more than that so there is NO reason why they shouldn’t have been able to make everything work. I can’t figure out how they screwed up so bad. It sounds like flat out terrible management or the intention to take the money and run from the get go... or (and I do realize they pretty much go hand in hand) both. It’s disgusting. I don’t understand why Kickstarter allows things like that to happen. They should be perused legally by Kickstarter on behalf of the backers or something. The guy jetting off to Australia to throw his hands up and continue living his life is insane. I really can’t wrap my head around how they received SO much money over their goal in that campaign and couldn’t figure out a way to to pull themselves out of the hole they had essentially voluntarily jumped in. Maybe I’m missing something but it seems like they just about had a get out of jail free card handed to them but chose not to use it. I just...... HOW?!?! WHY?!? WTF?!?
Have you done one of these on the Robotech Kickstarter. That was an absolute crazy fiasco. Plus the history of those involved is also really interesting
Completely forgot +AlphaOmegaSin was in this video right until I heard the word "Fuck". I've watched so many of his videos and his pronunciation of that word when he's being sarcastic, is so distinctive.
Board Game geek have a good list of 'failed' board game Kickstarters here boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/160421/controversial-or-fraudulent-kickstarters/page/1?
>That last game God damn it, this series is called Kickscammers and I just watched the tail of 4 other failed game projects many of which were run by asshole and I know all this but stilll... That looks so cool and I waaaaant it.
question, if someone had things about getting the rights, could they legally make a branded kickstarter, I.E, if I wanted to make a official jumanji or something else could I do it if I mentioned about getting licensing and the minimum goal had that cost in it?
I wonder what would happen if legislation was made that said crowdfunder sites could only take their cut after a suitably similar product to what was promised is released to backer. They don't get a penny from projects that hit their mark but didn't deliver. Impossible I know but I suspect oversight would increase
That Foxtales Studio Logo plagiarism thing has me baffled. If they could draw a detailed anthro fox standing there in armor, why did they need to steal the tail? Did they rip off art from two different sources?
As someone who SG managed to bilk out of money for Evil Dead 2, thanks for calling them out. I'm just glad I didn't pitch in extra for the wooden dice, allegedly made from wood salvaged from the cabin set in the movie...
With all that Theme Hospital music playing in the video and a fairly new game being close to release; It seems Daniel Ibbertson is pretty hyped for Two Point Hospital! :D I know I am! I'd probably end up buying more than 1 copy, one to enjoy on release and another if it goes portable!

I'm not the biggest player these last couple of years due to focusing on YT. I'm sure when I take my Kickstarter live. I will defo do plenty of videos like that to help promo it
"I just took my meds now."
If that guy who wanted people to give him money so he could make a game company...If he spent HALF the giving actual details rather than "I can't give you more details" "I don't want to go into more detail at this time" or "I wish I could you more details", people MIGHT have actually given him some money (just not much for obvious reasons)
Wow, two Jumanji rip-offs? That is unbelievably desperate. Also, cheers for using my music again. :)
Way more than welcome... one of my faves on the cd
AlphaOmegaSin made the raging robot guy sounds like a super pissed off Big Bird.
Dang, I was listening to this in the background, heard the Shadow of the Colossus music, and it gave me a shiver. xD
Isrend you’re not the only one.
Honestly, I cannot be mad at Phil.
Screw Rick, though.
Ok the Firefox copy is hilarious xD
Man, I haven't played a decent boardgame in years. I should get that to those.
I was upset about the Cones of Dunshire kickstarter a few years ago. Such a good opportunity and popular following already, it's too bad they asked too much for their game.
I pledged for 'Upfront.' Loved the original and was really looking forward to the new printing. $250 down the drain.
I was one of the backers as well....$125.00 down the same drain.
Instead of Fuck Batman we have Fuck Rik
Your self portraits are always so hit or miss. Like, either 'hey look at that cool-ass bloak' to 'OH MY GOD NO I DON'T WANT TO JOIN YOUR CHURCH'
19:36 Chris Christodoulou - Cyclogenesis | Risk of Rain (2013)
The ad for Key to the Kingdom in the beginning brought me back to my childhood
I haven't seen the video yet, but I have to mention the ad I saw before I forget it. The was an ad for a Kickstarter over a board game called Lemmify. Considering now poorly animated it was, the irony was not lost on me. Thanks for the amusement, UA-cam's algorithms.
Kickstarter has to do something about people running away with money
No they can't. Because you give money for something that MIGHT happen and they even tell you that. Of course you can sue and such but good luck with that.
I still think they need to have some sort accountability on Kickstarter though.
Speaking of Duandji - I mean, Jumanji, I loved the actual board game that came out with the movie. I wish they still produced it!
Awesome video! Make sure you announce loud and strong when your game goes live (wallet waiting)!
When I say we been working on it for years... It's very on and off! We will get back to it soon enough :D
@@slopesgameroom we will be here to support you when you are ready brother!
Hey Dan what editing software do you use? this stuff is super professional
The Theme Hospital music makes me so happy
Ah you should have included the saga of Pirate Den, including the antics of Boyan Radokavich and Wil Wheaton. It has it all, back stabs, lies, theft, firings, moves, running away with money, ... and its why I no longer back games on Kickstarter.
Great video. I love the Terminator music near the end. Nice touch.
Can I get that Raging Robot voice on loan? Going to have that kickstarter message as my voicemail message!
I have to say, I always appreciate your music selection. I was happy to hear the old school Tomb Raider theme make an appearance... But i lost my mind when all the sudden I hear music from the old Westwood monopoly PC game. Who knew I wasn't the only one who remembers that game. I still got that shit, the best way to play monopoly to this day; and dat soundtrack is amazing. lol
Seriously, Alpha needs to legit be a voice actor. I loved the voices he did when he did his rant videos!
8:24 Music from the 90s Westwood Monopoly PC game. Legendary.
That Raging Robot comment was funny.
"Happy fucker [sic] holidays Rik!"
where's my Juandi movie?
Starring Dane "The Bloke" Johnson, Calvin Harp, Back Jlack, and Carmen Billiard.
Glasses&Mouthplates 😆😆
I'm starting a Kickstarter to fund my JewManji film.
It's pretty Kosher if you ask me.
4:43 In space, not even a goat can be heard screaming.
AOS was a pleasant surprise guest. was laughing my ass off
Did you ever look at the HeroQuest boardgame Kickstarter from 2014 (I think)? It ultimately went to a European crowd funder in Spain, I believe. The licensing issues were fascinating, and lead to be being suspended in short order.
Given the nostalgia value of the original board game it could be a popular one to cover.
Why doesn't this guy have his own TV Tropes page yet?
Raging Robot is the MVP of this video... XD
Great video as always! Love them a little bit extra when it's about board games too ! ;)
I was watching some other failed Kickstarters video, and outta sheer coincidence, this popped up.
It's called UA-cam algorithm
@@joeblack534 he got lucky, failed kickstarters are as likely to get some outdoors Serbian cuisine recommended via their algorithm.
Nah, it's sheer coincidence. It's like that one time I was playing Auto Modellista & enjoyed using the Skyline R30... Then a couple days later, I found a Hot Wheels model (in the original red & black colors) at my local Wal-Mart.
Give more examples
HOW?!?! WHY?!? WTF?!?
AlphaOmegaSin? More like AlphaOmegaSenpai amirite (please notice me senpai)
senpai didn't notice you. now commit seppuku.
Glad to catch this with the notification.
Saloon Tycoon is an awesome game, glad I backed it
But there already is a board game using hexes that has strong sci-fi and roleplaying elements. It's called Twilight Imperium IV.
Board Game geek have a good list of 'failed' board game Kickstarters here boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/160421/controversial-or-fraudulent-kickstarters/page/1?
>That last game
God damn it, this series is called Kickscammers and I just watched the tail of 4 other failed game projects many of which were run by asshole and I know all this but stilll... That looks so cool and I waaaaant it.
question, if someone had things about getting the rights, could they legally make a branded kickstarter, I.E, if I wanted to make a official jumanji or something else could I do it if I mentioned about getting licensing and the minimum goal had that cost in it?
Makes me glad that the only Card Game I backed was Skirmish. That one actually came out.
Jumanji was awesome, I still remember playing it as a kid with my mom and sister.
"These board games didn't just die, they were murdered!"
That terminator boardgame is basically the collectable card game just in a box....
Your background music around 11:00 is definitely theme hospital right?! Awesome!
You are correct :D
Dude that's awesome!! :D so hyped to hear that song while playing the spiritual successor Twin point hospital :D
I was stung by the terminator game. I will NEVER touch a KS boardgame again
This series is a very enjoyable one. I love it.
Where my teramyyd backers at? We just passed the 6 year anniversary of its funding.
I always wonder what the angry face with the party horn came from. It looks like you weren't having a great time. Lol
Great video though!
I got dragged to this really crap night club playing nothing but the shittiest RnB music... this was a picture taken on the dance floor
@@slopesgameroom Dang, that must've sucked if all the music was crap. Though that image does look funny.
Plagiarism is a no-win scenario. The only way you won't get caught is if your project wasn't worth paying attention to in the first place.
Man, that Radiant logo. Still amazing after all these years.
As someone who SG managed to bilk out of money for Evil Dead 2, thanks for calling them out. I'm just glad I didn't pitch in extra for the wooden dice, allegedly made from wood salvaged from the cabin set in the movie...
Funny enough that was the only piece that I've actually heard of people getting (including a couple in this very comment section) lol.
Weird use of Theme Hospital music, but hey, it works. lol
With all that Theme Hospital music playing in the video and a fairly new game being close to release; It seems Daniel Ibbertson is pretty hyped for Two Point Hospital! :D
I know I am! I'd probably end up buying more than 1 copy, one to enjoy on release and another if it goes portable!
