I had quite the character development. Went from hating DxD for a long time to eventually liking it. Avoided it for so long due to being a popular annoyance. I didn’t think there was more to Rias character in the show until I watched it. She’s surprisingly great and yeah at waifu material.
I know this anime for two reasons: 1. I stumbled across a Miiverse community for a game adaption back in 2015 or so. 2. The Hulu summary for the first episode of this is comedy gold.

I'm personally a Koneko guy myself, but I can tell why Issei likes Rias so much, and why Rias is so popular in both the anime, and by people who've seen the anime.

Highschool DxD is *REALLY* fucking good even for those who don't like fanservice (so long as you can stand it). I love DxD *and* the fanservice, so I'm biased on that front, but beneath all the fanservice (even though it is actually *required* for the story, big brain move by the author), the story, characters, lore, combat, development and waifus are all top tier. Where else can you get a world that has *ALL* the mythologies and they fight each other? Where else could you get a party with a White Dragon Emperor, the next gen Sun Wukong, a very powerfull Nekomata, Arthur Motherfucking Pendragon, his sister Morgan le Fay, Fenrir from the Norse mythology and a Golem (not much else to say about Gogmagog) fighting together against super powerful and legendary beings from all around the world? I love *all* the girls from Issei's harem because they are all unique and have their own personalities and aren't the usual bland 1 dimensional harem characters, which leads me to the point: *all* DxD girls (at least from Issei's harem) are Waifu material. PS: if you can, read the LN. I love the anime but the LN is just on another level of *chefs kiss*

Rias(high School DXD), Neptune(Hyper Dimensional Neptunia),Palutena(Kid icarus Uprising),Lucina(Fire Emblem),Roselina(Super Mario) and Pyra and Myhra(Xenoblade 2) are My favorite waifu!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Rias is ok. The main issue I have with her is that everything she does, someone else in the harem does better. If I'm ranking harem members, its Akeno, Xenovia, Irina, Rosweisse, THEN Rias, Asia, and Koneko.
The problem with Rias(and most main/first girls in harem shows) is that she's pretty much the default option. Not amazing, but not bad. It gives her a broader appeal, but at the same time she's unable to fill a niche.
I personally dont like rias due to how thr first season was set. How do you not notice 4 fallen angels and a literal cadre in your territory till the last minute. How do you conviently swoop in to save someone who got killed by said fallens. She knew issei had potential and let him die so she could get his loyalty
She didn't let him die people never read of light novels of DXD. Rias never knew that Issei was a Sacred gear user and too Issei summons her. Lot of people don't understand how DXD lore work. Rias can't sense Issei being a Sacred Gear user. Reason why she can't beacuse Devil's can't sense someone with a sacred gear reason why God of Bible created the sacred gear for humans. Sure she did knew about fallen angels in her area however she didn't knew what they were doing or what they were planning especially the plan of killing Issei. So please read light novels.
