The next time you visit Wilmington you need to take a tour on the U.S.S. North Carolina. It's the World War 2 battleship moored on the Cape Fear river across downtown Wilmington. It's one of Wilmington's biggest attractions and we are very proud to have it here.
This is my home! We love it here. We are a water family and take the boat out fishing and hit the sand bars at rich's inlet and mason inlet a lot. When the water conditions are right the water would rival the Bahamas and is beautiful. Great fishing, great Watersports, and just a good southern town.
I really liked visiting your area and hope I can get back there soon! It must be such a fantastic place to live! Thanks so much for watching my vlog and leaving this nice comment! 😀😊
Awesome video and depiction of my hometown for 53 years where I was a Firefighter, I moved to Central NC about 8 years ago and miss it so much. We only get down there about once or twice a year and will be going back in May, so your video gave me some ideas of where to take my girlfriend shopping when we go, downtown has changed so much! Thanks
❤ You put me in the mind of a young Princess Kate in a sweet endearing manner. My 1st. meal in Wilmington while attending UNCW was at The Sushi Bar. I treated myself. I was followed around a lot by staff in Commercial Wilmington when I tried to VLOG. SO Sad. The really sad part is I formally served as Associate Vice President for Chamber of Commerce and BBB of NC.
Wow that's such a compliment, thank you so much! And I'm sorry to hear that you had a tougher experience while vlogging in Wilmington - that's such a bummer! I suppose I lucked out.
So glad you had a great trip! What were your favorite souvenirs that you got at Old City Market? I gotta know the best shops for when I hopefully go back! 😀
Thanks for showing me a different part of the US, the riverwalk in Wilmington looked lovely. I like being around water, not fussed if it's river, lake or ocean. There's something calming about water. I've been known to have 'first dip' photos! First dip in the North Sea, it was freezing with me calling out 'Hurry up and take the photo!" (It was in summer, but still freezing!!)
I couldn't agree more, I LOVE being around water - especially while traveling. Haha, sounds like a fabulous tradition to have the first dip photos collection! You're a brave soul going into the North Sea!
One my favorite places. It’s a great, clean beach. So many great places to eat. HIGHLY recommend eating at The Southerly Biscuit & Pie. Pimento cheese biscuit FTW.
Hey Eliz, Wilmington, N.C. is a place that Harriet used to go to off on when she lived and worked in Fayetteville for 15 years. Still has friends there. it looks like you went solo here. Always, a Great Video. I too love raw oysters. Got to check out the Shuckin' Shack when we get to Wilmington again. Also, I just want to mention that Harriet and I have made a decision for the name for our new puppy. WE will send you the name of our pup and some pictures. The pictures have been hard to take because puppies don't like to stand still. We will do our best. Sending you lots of love💖💖 Jim and Harriet. Richmond, Va.
YAY Yuki is the cutest! Very cool that Harriet is familiar with the Wilmington area! I should have asked for tips, haha. Somehow I maneuvered my way to some pretty cool spots despite very little planning...but not a trend I hope to keep doing! 😉 Thanks for sharing that you like oysters, too! I think East Coast ones are so delicious so I couldn't pass them up!
Yes!!! Tt would be great if you could squeeze in a few extra days to stop! But wow, I bet that Florida drive is long for y'all, and very rewarding once you finally make it to that warm warm sun! Glad I got to show you a new spot! Thanks for watching!
Loved your video. I have been going to Carolina Beach since the '60s(no condos, very few 2 story motels) There are alligators in the park, but alligators have also been photographed in the surf(just another reason I don't go in the water). Still love the place.
Thanks so much for watching!!! I'm so glad you liked it! Wow, sounds like you've seen quite a transformation at Carolina Beach over the years. Funny to be learning more and more about the alligator risks AFTER I visited there lol!
Did you guys swap roles? Derek supposed to be the early riser solo video dude! Not an oyster fan. Love mahi and grouper, and lobster. Flights are nuts. We’ve never considered Wilmington. Frankly my dear…It looks inviting. ( GWTW joke ) my current thoughts are Chicago flights to Portugal are pretty cheap right now. One thing I find interesting is Google alligator habitat. And see how far up into North Carolina alligators can inhabit the inland freshwater lakes and ponds. And yesterday it was snowing pretty good here in indianapolis. Cheers!
Oooo Portugal sounds exciting, especially if flights are reasonable! Haha, yeah waking up for sunrise is sooooo much easier when all I have to do is roll out of bed and walk onto the balcony! Wilmington and Carolina Beach were such a pleasant surprise! I was told that the "season" there is mid-May through Labor Day, so I don't think many people think to go in April like I did! I really lucked out and had great weather! And I need to get better educated about alligator safety!!! Yikes!
@@MeansToTravel yeah I personally find it interesting having not grown up in an area where alligators could potentially be present in ponds/swimming holes. I mean they can get all the way over into Texas. Funny I just watched today’s video from The fly Drive explore welsh folks, and as he was crossing Cardiff Bay there is a large alligator sculpture there which somehow represents Roald Dahl the author of essentially Willy Wonka, James and the giant peach…. We visited Cardiff on our first visit to the UK and it’s an interesting area that bay.

If you look out on the horizon when you’re at Carolina Beach you can see those dredges you talking about
So interesting to see all that on the beach but glad for the active maintenance!
My HOMETOWN 😪
It's wonderful! I'm hoping I'll be able to go back and visit with my family sometime soon so they can see it!
Will be moving back in 2025
Less history channel rants. More footage please.
I never once mention ghosts or Bigfoot in this travel vlog.
Who’s got two thumbs and is the best? This guy! 😂
Ain't that the TRUTH! 😍💜
Beautiful video 🙂😉😍❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much!
