- Welcome to this special archive film of some of our favourite performances of incredible letters, taken from the beautiful Freemasons' Hall, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Jude Law, Olivia Colman, Tom Hiddleston, Carey Mulligan, Clarke Peters and more.
This video is available for free but, if you can, please head over to our friends Choose Love to check them out and make a donation. choose.love/
Across 2015 and 2016, Letters Live produced 15 shows at the Freemasons' Hall, London. With no two shows being the same. Here is just a small selection of some of our favourite readings from those shows.
Through this run of shows and this video we have chosen to support Choose Love (previously known as Help Refugees) whose vital work provides aid to people fleeing war, persecution and climate change. Choose Love goes where the need is greatest, filling the gaps and acting where others won’t. Sometimes that means Search & Rescue boats. Sometimes it means providing food or safe, secure long-term housing.
Since 2015, they’ve supported over 150 incredible projects in 15 countries and reached over one million people. In February 2016, Choose Love and The Good Chance Theatre worked with Letters Live to create a very special event in the "Jungle" refugee camp on the outskirts of Calais.
We were honoured to be a part of this extraordinary event and it served to strengthen our conviction that as humans sharing space on the same planet, we have a duty to help in this ever-evolving humanitarian crisis.
If you enjoy this video, please do donate whatever you can. Your generosity will help ensure that families living in refugee camps this winter have everything from warm blankets and winter clothes, to nutritious food and essential medical care.
And don’t forget to subscribe to the Letters Live UA-cam channel, where you can find other special archive films of some of our much-loved performances.

Jourdon Anderson's letter (read by Clarke Peters) was so cleverly written. Pure wit. A delight to listen to.
Olivia Colman is so adorable.
And Benedict is as always Love.
Jordan Andersons letter read by Clark Peters is the best and most intelligent 'why don't you go fuck yourself' letter I've ever heard. Please could you publish this on it's own so that it gets more exposure.
I was thinking the same thing. ❤
I have anger problems and anxiety all in one. Just 4 days ago I came across one of the clips and I fell in love. I listen to each reading with my eyes closed as a movie plays in my mind. I feel calm and some are hilarious. The reading of 'Hussain to People of Europe' brought me to tears. Thank you Live Letters, brilliant..just brilliant ❤️
Her guilty look at her southern accent. 💐😄
Benedict is awesome LOL but I love Letters Live overall immensely! I'm here for any and all of the amazing people who come and bring life to these incredible letters. Thank you for doing this!
I really enjoy a good letter. Só thank vou all
Q
For those of us who could never get to this in the flesh, l thank you.

Olivia Coleman is amazing. Like AMAZING.
I like her so much❤
thank you so much for this, I have loved the little bits of Letters Live I have been able to see on the internet, though I will probably never make it to a live event. This is a very special thing you all do. What a treat to hear so many of the letters all in one program.
O my, the letter read by Miriam Margolyes, and read so well
Oh olivia!! She's so adorable 🥰
Burst of laughter when Jude Law read the bricks... i mean the letter 🤣
Love Maya Angelou's letter reading.
That letter read by Hassan Akkad 😭😭. I wish I could donate, but it's said that I can't do that from my country
Just ordinary people in pursuit of a normal life. 😭😭😭 ❤ for Syria.

Please do stay for the rest, all of these performances were absolutely beautiful! I loved that we got to see so many different individuals doing what they do best. Being themselves and having a good read. Enjoy.
Thank you so much I needed this!!
Thank you!!
Thanks
Hope people who came for them watched it all. I found letters live by chance a few months ago and absolutely love it. It keeps showing up on my timeline. Some letters I've heard serval times and they're brilliant every time
Just beautiful and brilliant! Almost 5 years and yet each performance feels fresh as new, every single time!! Thank you Letters Live for this fantastic compilation!!!
I’m here for Tom Hiddleston. Anyone else?
Tom, Benedict and Olivia were awesome💕
Loved Jude Law's New York accent when he was reading his letter! So entertaining!
The Jude Law letter is Allen’s rip off a letter from a British bricking read out an uk institute of engineers meeting in the 1970s. ABC local radio program Sydney hosted by Margaret Throsby. Search.
@@ericvlakameyev2265 Fred Allen died in 1956. "Search"
Hello good evening and lovely greetings from Austria. I hope you all are in best health conditions. I miss this show in real so much. Hopefully we soon can see it in London again. 🥰
Sanji, loved your reading of John Cheever’s letter about Delmore! Just perfect1
Olivia coleman a bloody genius
These were such amazing performances! The humor, the love and the depth of passion! Each of them a testament of lives.
Refugees, no matter from where only want to live. This letter speaks across time and space.
Just came home from a long work day. Elisabeth Taylors letter to her cat came up. It made me tell my cats how much I love them 😻😻. Did she ever find her cat?
Jude Law’s letter is a letter version of an Irish Song, called Murphy and the Bricks!
The Corries did a very funny version of this 🤣🤣
Clarke Peters, so well delivered, so tongue in cheek! Love it!
The letter about the barrel of bricks sounds like what started as a recitation in the 1920’s and ultimately became the song called The Sick Note (which is even funnier).
I'm here for Benedict!!!😍😍
Benedict Cumberbatch I love you!!!!!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
I'm here for Benedict💗
Who isn't?
Benedict!!!!!!
So groovy how the readers add something of their own to each letter ❤ readers + the words = something entirely new
Loved the performances by Olivia Coleman, Jude Law, Carey Mulligan, Clarke Peters and Benjamin Clementine.
An excellent show. It’s good to be reminded of the exceptional and talented performances.
The story of Delmore the cat was read by another man I think.. I can’t recall if it was his same accent or not… maybe it was. The guy who read it read it so smoothly it played off the hilarious mess of some of the situation.
I thought Benedict did it too. I was looking for this as well as Woody harrelson who said s….😂 instead of poop
The barrel of bricks story is, well, fake. It is a reiteration of an Irish comic song detailing why "Paddy won't be at work today." Same barrel, same bricks, same 5 floors.
This is the song, The Sick Note by Sean Cannon The Dubliners that Jude Law is reading is it not?
excited! Good luck to all the wonderful actors
Jude Law!!!!!!
This is the most wonderful experience. As an old Southern er, letter reading and letter writing was as deeply engrained in my experience as mayonnaise, going barefoot, and wearing white gloves to dances. Thank you for so vividly, poignantly, and beautifully bringing that all back to me.
I’v just found these videos and i’m Sad to have missed so much however, i’m now pleased that I can enjoy so much.
I'm here for Benedict!!!!!!💖💖
i'm here to see if you finally give me claire foy's performance
Benedict💓Jude🤤
I'm here for Tom Hiddleston ❤️

Amazing! Thank you so much for sharing this special event. Please bring us some Chris and Bessie next time ☺️
Perfect Benedict!👑
Thank you so much for putting this together. Wonderful to see the performances again.
Especially Kylie 👏
i'm here to see Benedict!!!🙌💖
8:26 man, That „Please, come back!“ is really something I relate to, owning free-reigning cats is not for the faint-heartedy
The EMOTION in the reading of the letter at 30:19 can not help but touch the coldest heart.
Such eloquence on behalf of all refugees.
Trabalho incrível, fraterno e feito de forma engraçada. Estimula uma das formas mais antigas de comunicação! A carta!!! Parabéns a todos!!!
20:17 Letter from freeman to his former "master"....brilliant.
Fred Allen in 1932?!!! Well I never....There's a French comedian passing this text as his own in a stand-up. Shameless!
OLIVIA ❤❤❤
This was glorious♡♡ have never been able to make it to a live version of the show but many friends have. Thank you for doing this and supporting the good cause xxxx
Tom 💙
30:05 is the most eloquent written word in the world
Here for Benedicttttttttt
As an English Learner, watching the letter lives helps me learn
Tom 💕
Today we are observing behaviours and attitudes. Death is the closest word that is felt near us. What are we to say to our children when oil instead of green energies are turning the wheels of the world? Are we to say to our children that all the wars and killings were because of oil as a source of energy?
To the loveable people of Europe,
Who has started all the wars and killings?
.
.
.
Children, women, fathers and brothers just want to live.
Now they are fleeing from their home and countries, you call them refugees. They are humiliated in Europe.
Children, instead of drawing sweet childhood memories, are drawing the cold of winter, lack of water and food, disease and standing in the camp’s long queues.
This will put the history of the 21st Century to shame.
In the centre of Europe, cities with the population of 7-8 thousand people have been created for refugees with cold nights and dangerous, lawless and hopeless tiring, hungry days.
Camp’s tents on fire, raping of women and children, death is just a step away from refugees.
Sometimes food is brought in via charities and people with hearts of gold but unfortunately it is not enough. Sleeping in tents while shivering from cold and nightmares of homes on fire and death. Fear of radical extremists and fights and tear gas thrown by the police into the camps locations and tents.
Dear Kind people of Europe and the UK,
I don’t believe that in the heart of Europe, centre of technology and civilisation, you don’t know that such a place exists.
History will judge all of us according to our actions. This will stain the heart of history and humanity and it can never be removed.
Dear people of UK and France,
Please open the doors to us refugees and save us.
We are not terrorists. We are not soldiers. We are not politicians.
We are just ordinary people in pursuit of our peaceful life.
The majority of Dash recruits are from abroad or from the West and have been living in the West for years.
I only want to live. Death is following me like my shadow in this hellish Jungle of hopes.
Please open your hearts and borders to us and End the War.
Tom for ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All these people have amazing talents!
Oh look they are all coming out of the woodwork now.
5 grand in 2 years? Looks like Europe doesn't particularly look for more refugees? Wonder why... ?
Jude Laws letter sounds weirdly similar to a bricklayers lament by Gérard Hoffnung.
Given its remarkable similarity to the above mentioned, much funnier story.
I'm calling plagiarism.
Do yourselves a favour and search the bricklayers lament by Gérard Hoffnung on you tube. You are welcome.
Since Gerard Hoffnung was 7 years old when Fred Allen wrote the letter, if there was any plagiarism it was on Hoffnung's part.
Love the letter to Elvis from the girls in Montana. That being said I'm from Montana and we're way up North and really don't have a Southern accent. I do thank you for the wonderful letters and the wonderful peoples reading them. Keep up the good work...from a fan in Montana..
Who's here for tom hiddleston?
Cannot wait till we get to see these again. Be apart of these again. Be with each other again.
Sincerely
Christina
i'm here for olivia colman 💜
Jude Law’s bit was probably the basis for the song Sick Note, performed, among others, by The Dubliners
Listen to it, it’s hilarious 😂
1:18 "This is not a letter, but my arms around you for a brief moment." - Katherine Mansfield
This is unbelievable, thank you!
I wonder if the Fred Allen letter is the basis for The Dubliner's "The sick note" ? AKA "Why Paddy's not at work today"
Hi Letters Live! I would love my Dad to be able to watch this. Could there be captions added to the recording? Thanks.
I love the image of an elderly Ulster woman telling her friend to fuck off. And then writing to someone to tell them about it.
Wow. Just wow. So much talent and so much raw emotion brought to life ❤️
I'm here for Benedict!!💗💗💗
Umm, as someone born and raised in MT this is terrible. It would have been better if she didn’t use an accent.
Jude Law sounded like Jason Alexander with that accent!
Wonderful - but everyone who spoke should have been listed.
You were pretty close with that Montana accent; as long as you are from the cunnn-tree! Lol
anyone else notice that Ben did his in an American accent? Wish this was longer.
Oh God, Olivia.... I love it!!!
This is such a treat!!
Noma ❤❤❤❤
God bless all of you for all you do!💖💖💖
if Benedict is there say him "hi" for me by the way i miss him a lot😭
Figures. In the title 3 men are credititted but none of the women
I cannot wait to see him💗
Ben!!!!
GOD! I miss Tom so much :)
¡Oh, Hiddleston! Hermoso y precioso Hiddleston, lo amo
