There’s a manga out there called Vagabond which tells the story of Musashi and his rival, Sasaki Kojiro who is also a master swordsman. The manga is illustrated by Takehiko Inoue who is also the creator of Slam Dunk.

Manchukuo, under Emperor Puyi who once lead the late Qing Dynasty goes forth with the army to fight the final battle to decide the war. As the troops enter the bloodshed, I can just hear this song blaring out. And when China is given to Emperor Puyi, and the Qing Empire is restored once again, I could hear this song playing. Random thought, but this song reminded me of Emperor Puyi.

Now, I don't know about the art of Iado, but the empty-handed arts originally came to Japan from China by way of Okinawa. I have no idea if that's what Peter Roe intended to convey - if he did, then hats off! If he didn't, well then it's still a very enjoyable piece of music :-)

Sure there’s legends such as Sanada Yukimura and Honda Tadakatsu who are known to be pretty noble and honourable, but there’s also a lot horrifying monsters that care not for anyone like Matsunaga Hisahide, the self proclaimed king of evil and Oda Nobunaga, the man who would burn an entire village of innocent men, women and children just for his conquest of unifying Japan.

Picture this: A samurai's last battle in their campaign before returning home; he's eager to go home to his wife, but things don't go according to plan, they need to retreat before their general is slain. It's too late for a full retreat, so this samurai offers himself along with other several samurai as the final line of defense. A final stand; he wanted to see her again, but he understood his duty as a warrior. He let go of everything he ever loved as he knew his fellow comrades are doing the same, as he stands there, firmly gripping his naginata, remembering those moments he spent with his wife. As the enemy gets closer, he lets out the mighty samurai warcry; letting out a warcry after each moment that he remembers, not ever knowing if his death will be in vain.
