    What do you think is most difficult about playing the violin?

      Correct bowing is very hard. I guess thats why there are so many videos on that subject.

    I'm 28 yrs old and finally decided to go for it. Thanks for flagging these issues, it's very helpful to know what to look out for and avoid!

    I’m a pianist, just begin my journey with this instrument, and wow it is hard😂 but never give up , mastering one instrument takes a lot of time and dedication for perfection, just like you said 👍

    One thing I love about the violin is that it's always potentially in tune, unlike my other instruments (organ, piano, flute) where I'm at the mercy of something beyond my control! 😃

    And if that's not enough you have to bow the right string and there are only a few degrees of tolerance which gets smaller when you press on the strings. That's assuming you are pressing the right string and not too hard or too soft with your finger at the right angle. Then you have to cross the strings without unwanted noise from the string you are leaving or intermediate strings. It makes me wonder how this instrument survived its evolution.

    Thank you for explaining the basics of the violin playing. It may be simple to you, but is more complicated to beginners. You teaching these simple basics are helpful. Thank you.

      Glad it was helpful! It's definitely not simple for me: every level a new devil!

    this is a very good explanatory video - thank you. I never realized that halving the distance to the bridge brings the tone up an octave - very scientific. the other stuff I'm constantliy working on.

    Thanks. I earned how to approximate octaves, didn't realise the division.

    For me it’s a challenge finding the perfect shoulder rest and chin rest… ahh the struggle…. And also the nice hickey you get from your chin rest after playing for some time

    I think people who play the violin and fiddle are too afraid of making a bad sound on the violin. The more you play it and warm into it the less these unwanted extra sounds appear. Violin is like an engine it like to run warm and be well oiled not literally though.

      Violin is the one of the versitile instrument there is. I think there are harder instruments such as the elan pipes or bag pipes . The violin was always my first love I found the piano harder and organ.

    I love the violin, its resonates with me as the strings of the heart. Thank you for this video, do you have a tuner to 432H or have you ever tuned to that hertz before? I find it more peaceful to my nervous system when I listen to music at that hertz.

    • @violinlounge

    Hello Zlata. Your comment about finding a comfortable set-up combo of chinrest and shoulder rest rang true for me; it's something I've been struggling with (I have a long neck and quite narrow shoulders). I've noticed from your videos that you've used different shaped chinrests at different times - could you tell me the name of the chinrest you are using in this video? It looks different from others I've tried. Thanks.

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  Рік тому

      It's a Stradivari model chinrest. However, if you have a long neck and narrow shoulders, consider a centered chinrest you can adjust in height like the Kreddle and combine it with a BonMusica shoulder rest so it doesn't slip off your shoulders.
