2:05 I love that small fish choking on his food watching giant octopus entering his pool 😅
LOL at thinking that fish was anywhere near an octopus. It's 2023, do you really not understand how TV/movies are made?
I love love love this clip so much! From the amazingly intelligent and quite frankly other-worldly octopus, to the startled fish spitting his rock out in shock, the only problem I have is that it only runs for 4 mins! 🐙❤
The camera work is amazing! This could easily be a short horror film.
Well.. there's an octopus at some marine research place that keeps escaping it's tank and going around the room to other tanks to feed on other critters.Seen video a while back. Handlers couldn't figure out why the food was disappearing. Eventually, it was figured out the octopus was getting out. Having dinner..Then returning to its own tank.
What an Incredible Species are Octupi! They sre smart, have Camoflage, the eight arms, able to crush Shells, now seeing for the first time the ability to travel on land! The perfect Hunter! Incredible!
@@nickychimes4719 Yes it is; however I did enjoy the Video Nice to know that I have you to correct me!
I've seen small octopus on the California coast climb out of tide pools and move into other ones. They don't do it often, but they also sometimes do a bit of land travel.
I lol-ed when the startled fish spat out his food as soon as he saw the octopus.
I LOLed at you thinking that fish was anywhere near an octopus when it was filmed. That's a species of fish that builds a nest out of pebbles that the producers used to inject humor into the clip. It's probably not even native to Australia.
Honestly, he could read a dictionary and make it sound fascinating 🐙 Truly some incredible footage of an amazing creature
How extraordinary, never thought I’d see an octopus walking on land! Quite an otherworldly creature.

I love how OCCY closes his eyes when on dry land. The sun is SO bright! 🌞
They are clever and adaptive critters, for sure...

Adaptation = yes 👍
Natural selection = yes 👍
Evolving = NO 👎
@@nickroberts-xf7oq oh no, I hope you’re not one of those ignorant creationists.
@@nickroberts-xf7oq evolution is basically natural selection over time. There is a religious problem with accepting humans as the descendants of primates, but not for accepting that animals and plants did indeed evolve. I'm religious and I don't have any issue accepting this
In fact, it makes God look even better that not only did He create organisms, but He also continued to shape them after their initial creation
This is normal octopus behavior. Nothing out of the ordinary. We had a different species in my oceanography class that would leave itw tank at night to eat fish feom the next aquarium. Octopus like to explore and eat a lot so they wander looking for food
So impressive! Our crew filmed a similar situation but in Brazil. The crabs there already have sophisticated techniques to escape octopuses, such as walking on water! Fascinating!
Hello, can you share a link to your video, please? Sounds very interesting.
Filming is EXTRAORDINARY. Just WOW!
I’ve had interaction with a cute little Octopi in the Bahamas who had no trouble at all, hanging-out & maneuvering on land.
Australia has incredible wildlife I'm certain it has creatures yet to be seen
Watching you this and for the first time in me, I am realizing there is no way all the "octopus sounds" are actually being captured by the film equipment, as the footage is taking place right by the ocean. Th sound of waves crashing on the rocks and beach will muffle everything else. So kudos to the sound technician music composer and musicians, without whom this video would not be remotely as fascinating.
Mind blowing footage! Never ceases to amaze what you guys capture!
Octopus 🐙 such an incredible marine creature 🤗.
After watching "Octopus in the Livingroom" on Nature, and learning that they dream, I have taken them off my menu.
They are absolutely fabulous and awesome!
crabs taught me how to find love and Octopuses taught me how to surprise everyone !
Always curious that the soft body predator enjoys the crispy hard shell sashimi.
I grew up in Seattle and there was always stories from divers about the Giant Pacific Octopuses that lived in the area. Amazing creatures!
My God, but what a beautiful and graceful creature...and so terribly brilliant as well...thank you for sharing them with me!
Camera work. Is. AWSOME. !!!!
At 1:27, 1:43, and 1:52 to 2:00 you can see that a couple of the octopus's arms have been injured and are regrowing! Look for the arm that doesn't gradually taper down in width - there's a noticeable point where the width of the arm gets significantly smaller. (One injured arm is visible at 1:27 and 1:43, then at 1:52 there are two adjacent arms that are both regrowing.)
to add to this, did you know each of the octopuses arms/tentacles have their own "brain?" They are truly out of this world intelligent.
When science first realized how intelligent octopi are: "Whew, it's a good thing they're confined to water or they'd probably become the dominant species on land!"
This new series is more than living up to the anticipation! Got the DVD on preorder while enjoying every week's episode. Looking forward to my traditional Attenborough marathon over Xmas. I start with the earliest series and then watch the rest by date order lol. It happens each time I get a new DVD set!
Btw, why isn't Wild Isles on DVD? It's got a book out, which I'm sure is a terrific read, but much as I love books, my arthritic hands take away much of that pleasure. I have recorded it onto my satellite box but that's hardly a permanent solution. Please give this licence player her wish!
Squidward revenge - the downfall of mr crab 😂😂😂
Incredible footage, what an extraordinary animal.
I never knew that Octopi moving sounded like Stirring a big bowl of Mac n Cheese…. Super cool 😅
When you feel comfortable, know there will always be an octopus above you, ready to strike.👽🐙
Of all God's creatures, I find the octopus the most alien life form. The intelligence, ability to camouflage, locomotion and gelatinous body combine to create a truly unique animal. Fascinating photography and of course, David's mellifluous narration.
An innocuous question goes "why not take a nap till the next tide up?"
He's hungry!
Filming the shadow of the land monster...brilliant photography!!
Such an amazing creature..Thanks you Sir David Attenborough for the super documentation.💖👏👏
Poor little crab 🦀 😢
They got the extra high definition audio for this episode
2:04 lol
La voz de Sir David, es simplemente maravillosa😊👍
Fantastic film and sound work.
This literally felt like a legendary fictional beast in a movie yet it's real, incredible.😅
It must be awesome to be an octopus 😊😊
Extraordinary Octopus and the individual squid. Great video!
If these guys lived more than a couple of years they would rule the earth.
This never gets old!
Can someone shed light how the audio is always super crisp and up close? Where are these mics that it can pick it up with such clarity. Thanks in advance ❤
It's overdubbed and added in production. It's not possible to record multiple isolated sounds that clearly from general background noise in a natural environment.
Nature is beautiful, and merciless.
Wow, very cool but I have to admit it would creep me out if I was on the beach and saw an Octopus come out of a tide pool and start slithering towards me.
Great photography!
That crunching sound though, absolutely brutal 🤣🤣🤣
Giant land octos would be wild
Every time somebody hunting for aliens says they're afraid to be alone in the universe.....
That octopus is officially the world's smartest Australian.
thankyou very much camera person amazing footage!
Let’s just hope they don’t get too comfortable on land
sound editing on this is amazing too.
Amazing creature.
Thanks for sharing this great video.
a famous person once said, "humans and fish can co-exist" and that startled little fishy spitting out the tiny rock is basically the same way we humans react
Why would you think it was startled? Whjy would you even think it was in the same rock pool as the octopus?
That's a lot of work & risk. Those must be some good crabs!
Absolutely mesmerizing animal! Seing one on the wild is really a special experience, imagine seing it move on land!
Utterly Incredibly Amazing.!!!
Make friends with octopi now...they're going to inherit the earth, such as it is.
Im halfway through the video and had to pause to give judos to the editors (both sound and visual)
Because you're nailing the "Horror / Creepy Suspense" vibe to a Tee!!!!
Paused again - massive kudos to the camera team
I swear just watching this is setting off my Fight or Flight reaction
Third pause - the high stakes tension musical score (once we've sighted the crab) is right up there as well
Thanks BBC earth 👍
Fantastic videography!
😂 I couldn't get "Pirates Of The Caribbean" out my head the whole time watching this Awesome footage🐙❤!
Amazing footage but also really amazing sound. Effects or Actual audio?
Better cinematography than most of the d.p.'s in Hollywood
Amazing animals. Quite possible the most intelligent animals on earth. Their drawback is a short lifespan. Who knows, if they evolve to have a long lifespan like humans, what would happen
Yeah they can't pass down things they learned to their offspring so they can't easily develop a culture like us. Would be really interesting to see what they could achieve if they could teach something to their children.
@@Koboldmaki15 great point. In millions of years they could be the dominant species on earth if they develop the ability to pass on knowledge like us
Children of Time and the sequel cover that, somewhat. Excellent novels.
(I did not like the 3rd... I tried...and it just wasn't good, but a few did. 1 and 2 are among the best sci-fi I've read, though!)

Great narration by Sir David, and witty, horror-flick inspired soundtrack!
Awesome video Thank you🎉🎉🎉
what a team from the BBC, I'm mad to join this team, I will work for 24hrs for this kind of scenes ❤
that octopus is more advanced than most of mankind that cant get out the front door without the help of google and an electronic device.
So lovely 🖤
Magnificently shot. I love the drama and how the footage plays with a sense of scale. I can imagine an elephant sized octopus suddenly sliding through my window and checking out its new surrounds.
Oh great so not only does Australia have kickboxing kangaroos, impaler cassowaries, belligerent magpies, legendary drop bears, a plethora of sharks & stingrays & crocodiles, the most venomous snake & spider & jellyfish in the world among other commonly encountered species of those animals, and unreasonable eshays, now their octopuses are starting to learn to walk on land. Welcome to Skull Island I guess 😂☠️
I LOVE David Attenborough and his work, and it always bugs me to see his documentaries cheapened in the editing room by adding silly sound effects. Clearly someone felt that video of an octopus simply HAD to have silly, unrealistic squelching noises - and I suppose that could have been ok, if it had been subtle or reasonable.
Note to the editors, if you're unable to control your urges to add irrelevant things to a video, at least try to make it believable. Just TRY. PLEASE.
So weard so smart so cool 😎 love them ❤️
The visual textural differences in its flesh, in and out of the water are fascinating. I have an idea of what is behind it…
Octopus can alter the size of tiny pigment cells in their skin and change the texture of their skin, enables them to match almost any natural background.
Fascinating creature
This dude from stranger things is just chilling out here with crabs and fishes.
FANTASTIC.
I never knew that Mr. Octopus can go on land.
Very strange! But really cool.
How awesome are octopi
Wow interessant 😮👍👍
They didn’t explained how they breath out of the water, they hold their “breaths” or the go out with some water inside their bodies?
They are so special 😮
Love octopuses ❤🐙
