- Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on May 13 accepted the resignation of outgoing Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and endorsed the appointment of Lawrence Wong as the successor. President Tharman met Mr Lee and Mr Wong separately at the Istana and exchanged a series of letters to formalise the leadership handover. Sabrina Ng reports.
I am sure with heavy hearts we neighbouring countries are watching this resignation closely. Thanks so much for good relationships we encountered during your Premiership. A Big Thank You.

I hope the incoming government can address rising costs, and Singaporeans being a minority in their own country. I would like to see us invest in sustainable energy with a nuclear reactor which will cut logistical costs for organisations and civillians, and the possibility of exploring space (lunar mining maybe?).
If things weren't so grim, people would be more confident in bringing new life to boost population numbers. We have already seen what unchecked immigration has done to certain countries, let's learn from their mistakes and not repeat them.

About Singaporean being the minority in Singapore, late LKY addressed this a long time ago, Singaporean women must have at least 4 kids to make SG self-sufficient in manpower. That has never been the case. About nuclear power, it's a long-term and complex investment. Sweden and Finland have it since a long time but SG is a young country, I'm not sure it would be their top priority for the next decades.
@@francoisperrin7397 The nuclear plant was already in the works before the Fukushima incident, which put the project on hiatus. We should put it back in the national workplan.
As for the population issue, please do not mistake total population for native population. The focus must always be on the native population, not the workforce. We have no choice to accept people to work in the nation, but never forget that migrant populations owe no loyalty to the country, and that we have to rely on our own to defend our nation.
We know the factors behind shrinking populations. We could implement social policies to grow the population for the next 20 years, but this runs parallel to the GDP expectations that the government pegs as their KPI, hence unlikely to happen if we keep up this short sightness.

After the swearing in ceremony on 15th May, LHL would lose all power under the Constitution. This would be the best opportunity for Singaporeans to remove the Lee family's influence in Singapore politics. Incoming PM LW and President TS should coordinate effort and direct the CPIB to look into LHL and HC for allege corruption. Use this as pretext to remove them.
