Your 356 Outlaw on Petrolicious' other video is a work of art that I just stop and look at for minutes on end. Best to you from Maine, Rod. Keep up the good work.
Rod is the hardest working guy I know. He's every bit as good of a family man, and friend, as he is at building Porsches. Rod has been a huge inspiration to me, from achieving my goals to helping others. I'm so glad to see him getting the recognition he deserves.
Chris Ridgway Thanks Chris.... You have always been by my side and I am gereatful that you and I had a chance to chase our dream of racing a GT3Cup together as well as make a possitive impact on so many lives of people that have lost a limb just like you. And thanks for always driving all night anywhere in the contry to pick up my next project.
I alway come back to this video #The inspiration Lucky enough to meet Rod in person in the UK on an “evening with Rod” with the Porsche Club. I quit my job in another industry and now I am a fabrication apprentice aged 52 building restomod Porsches. Everything else is just transportation Thank you
Rod Emory is the real deal. I love that he learned how to work on these little 356's from his grandfather and is carrying on the tradition with his own unique touches. A classy guy.
This, this is why I love my car and other classic cars. Because of the rich heritage and stories they present to us. It something a modern car can never have is that story and the character of a classic car. Awesome video Petrolicious!
Love this video specially the family legacy, is good that new generations have the knowledge's to maintain this cars alive and bring services to people who wants to take care of it, one of my favourites videos from Pretrolicious now.
What I love about this story..and many others on here is the influences of family particularly Dads & Grandfathers. My dad taught me most of what I know about cars. If I had a brake problem, he would start me off then get me to take over..whilst he guided me. His philosophy was that the best way to learn was to do it yourself. My dad passed away 5 years ago now..but as my son gets older I will teach him the same way my dad taught me. Another great video!
I remember as a teenager visiting a car show, seeing my first 356, in the flesh, as it were, and becoming hooked on the Porsche marque for life. Clearly, Rod Emory has an eye for design and the cars he builds are even more beautiful than the originals from Porsche. I enjoyed hearing his description of how he learned the tools of the trade from his grandfather - just imagine how proud his grandfather would be to see what Rod has done with this knowledge.
i can only afford to restore my own cars but if i had the money to have someone else build me a car or even have trust in their ability it would be hands down Mr. Emory, impressive builds of the most beautiful sports car ever built from pure simplicity, my favorite form...simplicity.
"Take a design, look at it, and see how you can evolve it, but make it so all the components and pieces blend together, and you can't necessary pick out what has been done, but as a whole you know the thing has been modified, but nothing really stands out." I share this guy's design philosophy, it is definitely the only way to mod cars! Also, the video does seem a bit less refined than previous ones, but I still love seeing the cars :)
Amesie's Corner I don't know what to say about that because I didn't look up the details. I know they did a couple of videos in Italy. Maybe if they find your story to be interesting enough, they will pay you a visit. It's worth a try, you've got nothing to lose.
Absolutely brilliant. My thinking is, I'm sure there's at least one 100% original and immaculate example of every Porsche, so why not make yours yours?
I always like those wide spaced, giant lug pattern on those old V-Dubs and Porsches. Seems to me it would give better wheel stability, like it would be harder to break a stud compared to a smaller lug spacing.
I have people always tell me im crazy for driveing my 67 impala everyday and i reply that is what it was built to do! I dont believe in keeping them in garages i believe they should be driven and enjoyed!
Rubens Junior 550s are so cool to look at and drive. They are Uber light down to the hose clamps that hold the aluminum body to the chassis tubes. But cramped cockpit ,for aerodynamic racing purposes. Not a good two seater great for just a man and machine ,driving. ( Like a cafe racer) . I've driven real twin cam 550s and replicas. 356 are more of a tank,In a good way ,robust chassis. A replica would be easier to obtain as the 356 are no longer inexpensive. This guy, has years of contacts ,has them, coming to him, by nature of his business . I've loved Outlaw 356 cars for ever, they have always matched my automotive, sports car, tastes, I'm building two Z cars a 240z , and a 280z (chassis heavily modded to bring it back to 240 weight.) Both L28 with twin carbs, The 280 has 240 tail lights and turn signals, and a 240 Dash and steering column and steering wheel) just two fun Z cars for the street ,to drive daily ,thank you Florida.Great car builders,OUTLAW cars ,all rock hard.
Great video Rod.... bit off topic, but what are the specs on the type 4 engine in the coupe? I have a 912E, and I'm looking to build it out to something that produces about the same numbers reliably....
Different editor / camera? This film doesn't 'flow' as well as most of the others - the concentration on the shop and family isn't great. It could be tightened up a lot.
Does anyone know of a video on UA-cam where I could see this kind of work on the aluminium part until the final stage ? I'm really curious to know what are the next steps after 5:38. Thanks in advance :)
He mentions the car should get about 50 hrs on teh 1.6l before needing to "freshen it up". What all would this entail as it sounds as if its not a full rebuild?
Alex Martinez Since this particular engine is the vintage race motor with higher compression and we spin it to 7300 rpm it is always good to pull them apart and inspect the bearings and tune up the valves, check piston wear, etc between 25 and 50 hours. We also built a street motor for it that will run for years but only has about 110hp. Now the other two cars driving in the background have 2.4 and 2.6 liter motors in them. The Aqua Marine Blue Met Speedster has an overhead cam POLO motor and the Coupe has a big pushrod 914 based motor. Both put out 190-200 HP and will run for years.
Great Docu - I onced promised a girl I was courting a Porsche -If ever my numbers would come up - I would honour my promise - She'd look great in a 356 - You know what I never saw that girl in a pair of jeans ? - Always in a dress or skirt - Gorgeous - I should have married that girl - Fate stepped in!!! Any way I love these bathtubs not many in U.K. nowadays Lots of Kit cars though - Not same ? I found your docu very interesting !
Probably. If there’s no traffic and you can see the road ahead will be clear, why not? But, never ever on blind corners. Besides, they may have closed the road for filming.
With due respect, that isn't "lazy driving" that's improving the corner radius... I do it all the time on 2 lane roads when there isn't oncoming traffic... just feels better.
Cars NEED to be USED! It's almost a sad sight to see them standing in a climate controlled room. Especially Porsches.... It's like they look to you in a way please take me out for a spin PLEASE!
Sorry you can hate me Porsche never became Porsche ,Until they had turbo road cars ,The Race cars were always good all the engines the 16 ,10 oh and the 6 but ,the public cars NO ,James's D road car was ok but he found the limit ,But now they rule the road with cheap cars ,which do track times ,A Kayman is less than a fully optioned VW
Thank you for all the great comments! It was so great to work with Aaron and Wyatt at Petrolisious!
Good job man! Great stuff right there.

BEST UA-cam CAR CHANNEL EVER. Period.
I can´t express how much I love this car, would be the happiest guy on the planet having this beast in my life!
My family tradition is to sit down in front of tv, wasting your life away. I need something like this!
And now we have You-tube!
Let's build a dream car!
Rod Emory is the real deal. I love that he learned how to work on these little 356's from his grandfather and is carrying on the tradition with his own unique touches. A classy guy.

Just watched you speak at Stoddards event. Very enjoyable and what an impressive life you and your family have. Thank you.
Love this video specially the family legacy, is good that new generations have the knowledge's to maintain this cars alive and bring services to people who wants to take care of it, one of my favourites videos from Pretrolicious now.
I am fortunate enough to see Rod's beautiful machines, in person, quite often, and they are amazing!
I love it when he mentions "evolution of a design rather than a heavy modified car". Spot on!
That Porsche is a beast. Man there are so many dream cars on this channel.
What I love about this story..and many others on here is the influences of family particularly Dads & Grandfathers. My dad taught me most of what I know about cars. Another great video!
+waynester71 god bless you and your family
honouring tradition breeds our culture.
greetings from Canada.
thank you for this wonderful little vignette.
This is the coolest video I have seen all year. Those old Porsches are just awesome.
Very special entry in an epic series. Love what this guy is doing. Wish there were more talented builders of retro cars. Thumbs up again Petrolicious.
Fantastic video, this guy has a great legacy, I hope he passes those tools on to his children.
outstanding man, outstanding!!!! Nice work on that 356. Congrats.

Please never stop. This video is incredible
Hell yes , this guys opening statement earned so much of my respect
I dont really know what to say besides wow. Amazing story, unbelievable craftsmanship. totally wicked.
One of my favorite films on this channel so far, great work guys!
Automobile as art. And what a legacy. Great video.
Beautiful car I love the 356 .
i can only afford to restore my own cars but if i had the money to have someone else build me a car or even have trust in their ability it would be hands down Mr. Emory, impressive builds of the most beautiful sports car ever built from pure simplicity, my favorite form...simplicity.
Nice car, and for a reason one of the cars in my top ten....
"Take a design, look at it, and see how you can evolve it, but make it so all the components and pieces blend together, and you can't necessary pick out what has been done, but as a whole you know the thing has been modified, but nothing really stands out."

That must have been one helluva way to grow up. Very cool story.
One of the best videos you guys have produced. Excellent!
I suddenly feel the need for opening that nice Rioja we have stored in the basement a couple of years now... Thanks Petrolicious!
what great craftsmen! Gorgeous work!
had a silver 356 cab drive past me when i was at work. beautiful machines. sounds magnificent too.
beautiful work and a real eye for design
If I could get these guys to interview me and the Saab Sonett I saved I could die happy!
Take a chance, submit your story here: www.petrolicious.com/submit-your-story
***** from what I can tell these guys only seem to do stuff in Southern California
Amesie's Corner I don't know what to say about that because I didn't look up the details. I know they did a couple of videos in Italy. Maybe if they find your story to be interesting enough, they will pay you a visit. It's worth a try, you've got nothing to lose.
***** There's that and they've already done a sonnett. I guess I'll just have to do my own then.
you saved a saab? you will never die happy.....:p
I love these cars. They really do look like a Porsche factory performance division built car. Very cool, hope someday to own one
The Petrolicious films really inspire me to start wrenching on an old classic. ahhh, it sucks to be broke
HowBandy get a miata. Close enough
Absolutely brilliant. My thinking is, I'm sure there's at least one 100% original and immaculate example of every Porsche, so why not make yours yours?
Another great show from Petrolicious. Well done guys.
Wow Thanks for Sharing! Congrats!
I love the old supercars have a special essence :)
I came here because i thougt it was the urban outlaw. but still, it was a nice surprise (Y) nice job!

Wow great job! awsome 356.
Breathtaking
His family has Great accomplishments.
Baja Beetles existed long before the Meyers Manx.
Genétical Pasión máster !
beautiful work.
These videos need to be expanded to 60 minute documentaries.
Bad ass story. Bad ass cars 🤙🏾
Rod is so cool. If you have instagram you should look for him. He always posts cool stuff and always reacts to the comments.
***** rodemory
Yes, good that he will take the time to talk cars with everyone, not just those with a fat wallet.
Beautiful workmanship! I need to find a guy like him to help me with my bumpers lol
Wow, wow, WOW!!
I always like those wide spaced, giant lug pattern on those old V-Dubs and Porsches.

LOVE this video :)
Very cool.
Love it! Thanks.

THIS IS AMAZING! Keep it up guys! :)
Awesome.
These are cool.
550 Spyder used to be my favorite vintage Porsche... but after a couple "Petrolicious" videos about the 356... I think I've chaged my mind.

Love petrolicius :)
you lucky F--king Dog!! what a fantastic location too.
Perfect
I would love if these guys did a video over the coach built volkswagen called the karmann ghia!
Great clip, Does anyone know were the roads shown in the clip are?
love it :)
Awesome video as always.
I just get furious watching people cross lane dividers, cut it out!
Great video Rod.... bit off topic, but what are the specs on the type 4 engine in the coupe? I have a 912E, and I'm looking to build it out to something that produces about the same numbers reliably....
Beautiful piece but the camera work during the construction of a 356 segment needs more work. All the shots were not in focus.
That's what happens when you film with large sensor DSLR and wide opened prime lenses... Ultra shalow depth of field.
Different editor / camera? This film doesn't 'flow' as well as most of the others - the concentration on the shop and family isn't great. It could be tightened up a lot.
Screw the purists, you love what your doing and you’re dam good at it , enjoy the ride!
Does anyone know of a video on UA-cam where I could see this kind of work on the aluminium part until the final stage ? I'm really curious to know what are the next steps after 5:38. Thanks in advance :)
Lucky man

what a fucking cool guy
that white #5 car at 3:05 looks a bit like MG EX179 but the cockpit isn't quite in the right place. What's it's story?
What are the overall numbers of 356's out there that you can have a profitable company that tricks them?
Can someone tell me where these beautiful roads are?
Joseph Murrietta up in the hills between Santa Clarita, CA and Lancaster, CA. about an hour outside LA
one day i will have the Porsche i want. An 80's whale tail 911 turbo in black..

I found your docu very interesting !
Please!! Somebody know the name of the first song??
Magnus walker?
You guys need to do a Studebaker.
Toyota 2000GT next please
That guy YES!!!!
Sweeeeeet, with a capital S
I wish I would have purchased a 356 instead of a 61 corvette fuelie in 1980
Am I the only one irrationally angry at the multiple drifts over the yellow line?
Probably. If there’s no traffic and you can see the road ahead will be clear, why not? But, never ever on blind corners. Besides, they may have closed the road for filming.
These guys are the true outlaws not the Magnus Walker bullshit..
That's slippery looking car.
Next video: a french car ?
I was more thinking about something like an Alpine A110
Magnifique !
I had a Kit car 356 Speedster on a short Volkswagen chassis!
.........R U Jealous?
Stay in your lane!
Sigh;.....Why are all the coolest cars in California???
because they do not rot there :)
LPPL123 but they fall into holes made by earthquakes
Epic cars and story, but man, this guy can't stay in his lane. every left turn half the car is over the double yellows, lazy driving
Fibre glass body ,A hotted up engine ,No insurance ,Lets make it do 4 seconds a lap better than the original for 20000,Without the " heritage'
Gas welding is called brazing
If the rod is the same as the base metal, it’s welding, as in this case. But joining steel with brass is brazing.
My dad ain't shit
