As an owner of P20 Pro (which has some simmilarities to P30 Pro) I had to buy Mi9, while waiting to have my P20 Serviced. Speaker audio quality in mi9 can be bumped to Huawei level using Eqfy application. Also please make apples-to-apples comparison - only the optical zoom should be compared which is 2x in case of mi9, everything bigger than that is a Digital Resampling and does not relate to the hardware of the phone itself, especially not the 10x and more. Huawei is using subtle HDR Mechanism even when it's turned off, by turning HDR on mi9 You get much closer results for both phones, the only difference is that Huawei works better in low light, while Xiaomi has better video quality. Another real difference is battery life - Mi9 works for me about 30% shorter, but offers incredible fast speed (Snapdragon 855) which loads websites in 1,5 second - that's faster than my Dell XPS laptop. I thought mi9 will be much worse than my Huawei, but after one week of usage I have really mixed feelings, like the phones are at least comparable.

The 50x zoom on Huawei looks very bad IMHO. And zooming in video with a mobile is just awkward. If you want to record goof quality video than you need an OSS stabilized camcorder or mirrorless camera. Just 5:19, what is that? A shaky wased out trash.

The clearance point to see that P30 Pro is better than Mi9 are about the optical zoom, beautiful design and when taking in low light photo. These three things really make P30 Pro's price higher than Mi9 350-450$. However, I love the Mi9 performance and its stability when filming, especially for the price 😁
already try it with p30 pro with 2 different photographer and i use mi9 , the result xiaomi mi9 more naturally rendering the color and the detail is same ( in my comparison that time ) contrast not to much different

If you keep pressed the 1X/2X zoom button on Mi 9 a slider with zoom function will appear on the screen so you don't have to pinch the screen anymore :).

How do you think either phone would fair with back AND front cameras for photo & video in bars or clubs? I'm sure lots more people take selfies with their friends on a night out than of buildings down a street at night with a steady hand or extra time to wait for focus. Yet reviews never seem to add those in. Any thoughts on which phones would be good for this? BTW thx for the great review, it's now made my search even more harder.
I’d go for the p30 pro in really low light situations, just to note though, when in low light it takes 1-3 seconds to fully take the picture so they’d need to be fairly steady for that long to get best results

The P30 plus phone clearly has the better and significantly more flexible camera as it does not just over the Mi9, but also over most phones on the market, but what you fail to state is that the Mi 9 is not just "cheaper" than the Huawei but half the price of the P30 pro in some markets. Considering its price difference it represents great value.
Nice video but the mi9 does have slide to zoom, you can hold on the 1x button then the slider appears onscreen. It's could be better but it is there. Wish they'd update the app though, and they seem to have remived the sharpness, colour and contract etc options. No idea why, it was more customisable before. Bad move xiaomi.

Wow that Xiaomi dusk photo 😲 My brain is trying to wrap around how it processed the photo like that. Imo Xiaomi, Iphone, Google pixel and Samsung (just including it for the heck of it) are great for point and shoot. Huawei's point and shoot is ok (personally I like the others overall look better) but it's real advantage lies in it's various functions. Good for photography enthusiasts who don't have a DSLR camera on hand but still want to have control and play around with settings.
Thanks for the video, 50x zoom amazing! I think you should install GCam on mi 9 and compare between p30 pro or stock mi 9. Just because on mi 9 you can do that (GCam not available on huawei or iphone). It gives way more details in night mode and portrait mode. Also colours are slightly different. You can find GCam for mi 9 and instructions on XDA forum.xda-developers.com/Mi-9/themes/xiaomi-mi9-googlecam-port-t3910034 (no need root, just install it). I prefer using P3XL config.

Yes, the Huawei is amazing, but at the asking price, you just can't justify spending the extra. I could get a return flight to Spain, a couple of nights in a decent budget hotel and have a little left to spend on the price difference of these two. Or I could buy a really amazing graphics card for my PC. Or I could buy the PS4 or Xbox1. Or a washing machine... You get the point. It's not a small difference in price.

It is very easy to zoom in mi9. Dont needs pinch zoom... Just press the circle for 2 seconds and a bar apears to make any zoom you want. And at the latest software update you can do 20x zoom with AI. And try all this at night. Xiaomi is much better than p30 pro at night with 10-20 X zoom ;)
This video is about Camera's I know but it's just irritating me to see how people judge the phones by their prices only rather than their features , I mean obviously if you can't afford p30 pro , go for Xiaomi mi 9 but don't ever say Xiaomi mi 9 is an overall better device because it's cheaper . I think Xiaomi's biggest weakness is it's sound quality in videos. It's actually some of the worst I've heard for a phone this new. I really hope it's a software limitation they could fix and not a hardware limitation.

When shooting videos esp at night change the setting into 1k x 30/60 fps for better results. Though they both have the eis feature 2k/4k x 60 fps isn’t really the best even in daylight. It’s always good to shoot in normal mode during day/night like the setting I said early. You can even try disabling the eis at night to compare from iphone, either way that can result into a good and nice videos..

It's not fair to compare optic zoom with digital. It's 5X optical vs 2x optical. The extra digital zoom depends on the optical capabilities mostly.

It is very easy to zoom in mi9. Dont needs pinch zoom... Just press the circle for 2 seconds and a bar apears to make any zoom you want. And at the latest software update you can do 20x zoom with AI. And try all this at night. Xiaomi is much better than p30 pro at night with 10-20 X zoom ;)

This video is about Camera's I know but it's just irritating me to see how people judge the phones by their prices only rather than their features , I mean obviously if you can't afford p30 pro , go for Xiaomi mi 9 but don't ever say Xiaomi mi 9 is an overall better device because it's cheaper . You're getting what you paid for with the p30 pro.

I think Xiaomi's biggest weakness is it's sound quality in videos. It's actually some of the worst I've heard for a phone this new. I really hope it's a software limitation they could fix and not a hardware limitation.

When shooting videos esp at night change the setting into 1k x 30/60 fps for better results. Though they both have the eis feature 2k/4k x 60 fps isn’t really the best even in daylight. It’s always good to shoot in normal mode during day/night like the setting I said early. You can even try disabling the eis at night to compare from iphone, either way that can result into a good and nice videos..
