Built by kings and queens to protect and rule their realms, castles had not only to be able to withstand attack but to project their power and wealth. As such, sturdy keeps and imposing walls were erected alongside marvelous palaces, full of ornate and elaborate chambers and throne rooms.
These castles were often built at strategic and spectacular settings at the mouths of valleys, at the entrance to mountain passes, or on glittering lakeshores. Add in the weight of history, and these amazing structures set amongst breathtaking scenery make for some of the most beautiful castles in Europe.
My favorite castle 🏰 from Europe is Neuschwanstein Castle from Germany 🇩🇪 Love from United States 😍 🇺🇸
This is Amazing. I´m currently doing my own Europe series on my channel and I just realized there is so much more I still have to see
These castles are absolutely breathtaking! Some of these places should definitely be on many people's bucket lists.
In love with Alcazar of Segovia 🤩🤩
So am I 🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸
Nice video :) Only pity that Czech Republic and Austria were not included, both countries have some beautiful castles!
Nové Hrady is underrated, isn't that?
Really wish these vids were longer
Dead right! If you can find this map it has so many listed. We have it, and from the same series for Czech Rep too. Awesome guides with the national map, images and descriptions: www.freytagberndt.com/media/catalog/product/cache/6e4ee0a45be9dd3e7889ae1ccb359e42/a/r/arb_9788086374482.jpg
I would trade Hohenwerfen for that number 9 any time.
There was one from Slovakia
Simply majestic and cinematic! I’m sure some of these castles have been featured in movies. It’s a great escape to watch this video and remain hopeful about traveling again this year to some of these amazing places 🙌💯✈️🗺
Pena looks like its been bought by Disney :))
I was last summer to Corvin Castle. Very nice. And the Transylvania/Romania in general is very nice. A lot of castles and fortified churches. If you are a fan of medieval era, Transylvania is a place to visit.
Nice but very American selection, mostly Romanticist castles for the Disney factor
Look at title. FAIRYTALE
@@JR-rj8nd disney =/= fairy tale
The worst being to include Swallow's Nest. I mean, that small thing built in 1912, really ? That's REALLY something that has its place in a Disney park.
At the same time, no Pierrefonds castle or Haut Koenigsbourg castle.
@@meme0taker87 I personally like Disney/Princess type castles..
@@xenotypos : Hochkönigsburg was ,restored' in the time of second german empire. In those days, there had been two wellknown castle ,experts'. One oft them, who was not involved in Hochkönigsburg restoration, critisized the restoration being too romantic.
I know we're in a pandemic so the fact that you guys are even uploading is amazing! I would love to see like lesser known countries in Eastern Europe like Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine. But I'm happy with any content you guys upload! Thanks for making the pandemic a little more bearable 💙
There is just really not much to see :( I come originally from Belarus and can tell it does not have much to offer as nature is quite pale while architecture is just of 2nd half of 20th century as everything has been destroyed during 2nd World War... that is a bitter truth :/
@@kirylmazitau7526 every country has something to offer.
For instance, speaking fortresses/castles wise: Brest Fortress (Belarus), Tighina or Soroca Fortresses (Moldova), Ismail Fortress (Ukraine)
i lot of polish castles are in belarus and ukraine, they r beautiful
Wow Pena Castle seems really interesting! Never been to Portugal, want to go there one day
I've been there last year. Fanatic colors and I very nice view are definitely worth it. There's also the old medieval castle nearby which you can see in the video as well
More interesting than the Pena Palace is the Quinta da Regaleira and the gardens and palace of Monserrate also in Sintra.
Very very beautiful, I recommend, I was there 2 years ago, it’s so amazing 🤩
Made a day trip from Lisbon to Sintra a few years ago...very impressive.
The video has been edited in such a beautiful way💜💜❤❤. I loved it .wish to travel atleast one of those castles in future. The music is nice. Europe is incredibly beautiful and amazing .🥰😍😍😍😍
@@JackiePhillipsTheSocialPet there are not so much issues actually
You could easily make 10 more videos like this with other castles. There is plenty of history in Europe for Americans to admire!
not for americans! 99% of them dont appreciate such things
@@zyraxes23 Americans ... forget that their country was founded by Europeans LMAO
Wawel Castle in Krakow, Poland is very beautiful.
Several Polish castles should be on this list.
You forgot to mention many castles in France and Neetherlands, also pretty amazing
Kasteel de Haar or Chateau de Chambord
Amazing Castles! Loved it 👍 obvious thumbs up
I've been to the Pena castle it's amazing, also cintra is also so cool. It has its own microclimate and plants native to just that region
You guys are such an inspiration. Because of your great content I decided to create my own travel channel and travel the world at 18! If anyone wanted to look at at it would be truly amazing!! Thanks
I like the Palácio da Pena ❤️
What a thoroughly eye-opening presentation! I know this is just a fraction of the castles throughout Europe but this was informative and intriguing for the given information. I was not aware of half of these. Good job!
Hmmm Romania has realy beautiful Castels
Yay, castles! There really are too many fantastic castles in Europe to just do a top twelve.

Malbork the biggest castle in the world looks amazing and is missing in the video
Książ Castle is prettier.
@Friedrich der Große Piss off, German peasant. It's Malbork. It was conquered by the Poles when they defeated those psychotic Teutonic turd eaters at the Battle of Grunwald. They were only hired by Konrad I of Masovia to convert the Baltic Prussians who were staging raids of Polish border towns. They weren't supposed to overstay their visit, but as usual the Germans don't know how to behave (the Poles had to teach you what a border is which is where you get the word "Grenze", from "granica"). Everyone under the Teutons revolted against those murderous thugs and savages. Also, may Frederick the "Great" burn in hell. He was a prick.
Definitely should be Polish castles on this list.
@@crewalpha But definitely built by the Teutonic Knights...
I am portuguese but Pena isn't a castle but a palace "Palácio Nacional da Pena", however we have hundreds of castles.
But I think that castle here means palace.
I think Bojnice or Orava Castle in Slovakia should have made the list, both very beautiful with unique, amazing features.
Especially Bojnice, being surrounded by a lake and with a very unique design!
Exactly. I was surprised that Bojnice was not on the list. A top 3 fairytale castle for me.
Thanx for the information. At least we can check it out on internet.
Both the castles especially Bojnice is really really beautiful.
Yes! I'm glad someones saying it! These videos seem to stay away from Slovakia, Czechia, and Austria for some reason
And Trencin!
Książ Castle should be on that list.
I love this channel so much and it provides informative videos with quality videos. Its has inspired me to start my own travel channel. Nice video thanks so much
✔
I love it! Keep them coming!
I would definitely add to this list at least 2 castles from my country: Wawel from Cracow and Malbork castle, and really miss on this list a beautiful, original castle from te main island of Sankt Petersburg.
Yes, I too was thinking that Wawel and Malbork are much more beautiful than several they included in this video.
Yes
Mariënburg is an amazing castle!
When I was looking at the Awesome Castle’s built before 1000 years ago wondered about the Architecture and Quality of the Castles
Thanks a lot for sharing this beautiful video and make my day so enthusiastic🍭
no czech castle? no austrian castle? wow
Jiri Masa i know right! I‘m shocked too!
I don't know how this list was defined, but I would say there are plenty more beautiful castles around Germany alone. Eltz castle was not even mentioned, Mespelbrunn, Heidelberg, Lichtenstein and many others. I recently created a video about only just german castles, I've seen also some very nice ones in Austria and Ireland for example, but glad that ypu added the Cochem castle because that one is top!!
Thanks for the information.
Yes, wonderful castles in this video, but I was thinking the whole time that when they called it the castles that give faire tale feeling, the list would simply not be correct if they didn't include Eltz castle, which I think gives the most fairy tale feeling of all due to it's location deep in the forest.
I really dont like the list. Castle are built during medieval time when Trebuchet, rams and catapult are widely used. Some of the castle in this list are built in the 1800's century. Those are just fancy palace built by the rich and not by the king/queen of those era. Don't get me wrong, they are beautiful, but not the true sense of what a castle is. The Crimean bird's nest looks tiny too.
Bran Castle 🏰!!! Transilvania _"- Dracula ( Romania) ✌
Neuchwanstein castle is absolutely incredible although it's very hard to reach . Love from Malaysia
Lisa's bangs - How do you mean "hard to reach", the walk uphill or the town below ? Fussen is reachable by train and bus from Munich and ther nearby towns & cities.
Yup not hard to reach at all...was there... Lots of tourist....went up to castle by 🐎
These are truly beautiful...woah!
Beautiful castles of the world .
I think Lea mont saint Michael . castle Chambord and Carcassonne castle must add to this list
Wow! Fabulous tour!
Tourupia, turn this in to a serie, you can make so many episodes with so many beautiful castles and other types of fortresses, viewers can provide names.
Thank you for showing some of many beautiful historic gems of Europe. Also thanks for showing the castles Interiors
Dope video! Encouragement for my travels. Take it easy!
🏰🌌🎶❤️🐦Be good to see all Castles restored for the people, bring 4th history so they can be proud and dignified ☺️🐦🎶🌹💯
What about Burg Eltz in Germany. A Castle that has never been concered or destroyed.
Nice list, I would add the Burg Eltz, Edinburgh Castle, Mont St Michel and Kasteel de Haar :)
I've visited these castles: Switzerland: Chillon, Spiez, Sargans, Scoul-Tarasp, Werdenberg, Bellinzona, Sion, Hohenklingen; Austria: Hohensalzburg; Germany: Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau; Scotland: Edinburgh; England: Windsor.
Indah sklii pemandang eropa😍😍
I'm waiting for part 2, part 3, part 4, .... episode too ;) There are a lot of fairytale castles in Europe.
Perfect! Bravissimo!
Exce..thanks alot for luvly posting
I was in Neuschwanstein...is incredible and the most gorgeous castle). The video is interesting. Thanks for new information
Went to Hohenzollern Castle a few years ago, beautiful place and amazing views of the surrounding area. But made the mistake of walking up to the castle via the stairs in about 35 degrees Celsius heat and back down again as I couldn't be bothered waiting on the bus, I suffered for days with the aches of my leg muscles.
Europeans were light years ahead of the world when it comes to architecture and building in general. Fantastic!
Hundreds of people had to work for years to finish these castles, only for them to be used by one family.
Wow😍😍😍! Love ❤ to visit there
歴史を感じますね。
Beautiful video.
Eilean Donan Castle wasn’t actually “rebuilt” in the 20th century, but “restored”; with a large portion of original medieval walls remaining. Thank you for an interesting list! My personal favourite castle would have to be Bodiam Castle - a 14th century moated castle in England, which for me is just perfect in every way.
Truely wonderful✨😍✨😍
Peles Castle in Romania is far more beautiful than most of your selected ones. However, I would go and see the ones you selected. In fact, I have been to the two German castles on your list.
Tq for such a wonderful video
Thanks 👍 🙏
I wish to visit the palaces that are suggested through this channel....
Been to the number one castle on the list so beautiful
Very nice. A lot of work went into the making of this video.
GOLUBAC in Serbia. Outstanding. ❤️
that is a citadel, beautiful, but still a citadel not a castle
Nice video
As Disneylike Neuschwanstein may look - it is most certainly not a castle. 😉
Hm you are wrong. It is a castle.
All castle are you showing own your video is historical and beautiful
Instead of Swallows Nest, which is a movie prop you should have included Wewelsberg Castle, former headquarters of the Teutonic Knights and both the largest and one of the most beautiful castles in all of Europe.
The Pena National castle is definitely the best
Plzz make video on indian castles also.... Rajasthan.
Muy bonitos, pero a mí me gusta el Castillo de la Mota. Greetings.
Only been to the PENA in Sintra, Portugal on this list which I class as a Palace. I did also visit the castle of the Moors which lies upon the adjacent hill to the palace. However, I am disappointed that a castle in Northern Italy is not on your list. The castle of TORRECHIARA is a hidden gem around 30 miles south from the city of Parma. Sadly their is no furniture, but the art is the painted walls and ceilings of the many rooms in this fortress. The hollywood cameras have visited here as the early appearance of Michelle Pfeiffer in "LADYHAWKE" was filmed here and in the surrounding hills. My visit to Emilia - Romagna that included a visit to Lambourghini factory, the towers of Bologna and the Palio races at Ferrara, was my greatest ever vacation and Torrechiara was one of the bonuses that I will never forget.
Where are the french castles ??!!
Especially Pierrefonds castle picardie.media.tourinsoft.eu/upload/Chateau-Pierrefonds--10-.jpg
... and Haut Koenigsbourg Castle www.visit.alsace/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/thio-chateau-du-haut-koenigsbourg-zvardon-1600x900.jpg
Pena Castle is amazing. I think here lives Aladdin of the thousand and nights.
Not one of the Loire in your list?!?
super zamki 😎🤙
dojebane 😎🤙
Those Spanish and portogese castles are some examples of Andalusian architecture.
Disney is watching this for new inspiration
Amazing Pena
i bought a ruined castle and i'm in the process of restoring it ❤😍🏰 🐎 ⚔ 👑 📸 🏰 🐎 ⚔ 👑 🏰😍❤
Wow, Germany has the most beautiful, fairy tale castles in Europe.
Because they aren’t really medieval castles. They are actually palaces from 17th or 18th with gothic revival style.
It s are fantastic , misteriosus and wonderfulll , IT;s ard. Bigs and. Histories . 😁😃🎈🐵
Hello, I would like to ask what is the name of the background music?
Nice video, thanks! We have travel videos too! Will be glad to see you!
Although it is a beautiful one (been there already), you never would have picked Bran Castle without that 1898 novel of Stoker.
If u want to pick a second one of Romania (beside Corvin Castle), you really should pick Peleș Castle. It is kind of Neuschwanstein's little sister.
And btw..... really not any single one from France? Wow......

I want a castle sm
Mont Saint-Michel not making this list....insulting 🤔🤔🤔
it's not a castle...
Burg Eltz is missing. How come? Such a beautiful medieval gem.
No czech castles? How could you forget?
There are lovely castles in Czech Republic that would come in the list before Prague castle honestly speaking. Even I wouldn't even consider it a castle
That's more like a palace, it's not considered a castle
I ´m talking back. Prague castle is not meybe fairytale.
you should check out lednice and karlstejn
2 castles from this list are from my contry, instead of Bran castle i liked to have put Moszna castle in Poland or Bojnice castle in Slovakia or Disneyland in Paris,it is hard to put only 12 castles of Europe in a list because but i agree with the number 1 choice
#11 reminded me of Hogwarts.
Haha yes
First castle looks like winterfell
I did't notice, but from one side, yes :-)
Growing up in America, i wasn't aware that real castles actually existed, until my German boyfriend informed me of such. I thought they were only pretend, for stories in fairy tale books.
i live 5 minuites away from Hohenzollern Castle
i live in segovia
LoL
i have a problem with counting 19th structures that are more beautiful than castle.
Does Alhambra not count as castle? For me it does more than a 19th century vanity project.
Still thanks for some ideas
Good selection, but subjectiv, of course. Europe is too great.....
there is a great site about castles, highly recommend: castlesarchitectural.com/
#2 - trash, #1 very beautiful
