- I've spent countless nights wrestling with the decision to share this song and concluded that it wasn't something I wanted to do but it was something that I have to do. It's not for sympathy, but to offer insight into why I am who I am, why I write the songs I do, and why I struggle to believe in my own music and self-worth.
I want to make one thing abundantly clear: I am now a very strong woman in a loving marriage. I am my husband's QUEEN, and he is proof that good people still exist.
But it hasn't always been this way. For years, I endured unspeakable horrors - physical, verbal, and emotional abuse that left me shattered and questioning who I am. Every day, my abuser would drill into me that I wasn't good enough, that I was worthless. The scars of his cruelty, the violence, the pain still linger, manifested in how I perceive compliments and feedback on my music and confidence in who I am as a woman.
Leaving wasn't easy. It took eight attempts before I broke free from his grip. And I know I'm not alone. There are countless others trapped in the same kind of nightmare, feeling suffocated by only darkness.
Yet, despite the trauma that never truly leaves us, there is hope. There are people who understand your pain because they've lived it too. You are not alone, and you are not powerless.
This song is for you - the survivors who've painstakingly pieced themselves back together, bit by bit. It's a reminder that you are stronger than you realize, capable of breaking free from the evil that haunted you for so long.
And to my abuser, know this: you held a gun to my head, pulled the trigger, stabbed me, you broke my jaw, but you didn't destroy me. You only made me stronger - strong enough to help others escape monsters like you.
To any victim of abuse, you are not defined by your abuse or past. You are a survivor, and it's time to reclaim your freedom. You deserve to live a life free from fear and abuse. You are worthy of love and happiness. And you too can overcome the darkness and find light within just as I have done.
I want to help you realize you are worthy, and that love isn't violent.

In order for art to have impact, it has to come from a place of authenticity; when we, as artists, are too vague with the message, it doesn't translate well enough to connect. When we're too blunt, it lacks the expression to help others relate to the emotion.
It is often these most vulnerable pieces of art, that so accurately express our emotions and thoughts, that are the hardest to share, and yet also the most important art that needs to be shared. The challenges we face and overcome in life give us the ability to connect with others, helping them overcome similar trials, and helping us to use our tragic past to create a good and loving future.
