- Hi there! I'm Rosie and in this week's video my brother and sister-in-law went to the thrift store and bought me supplies to make a collage. I have no idea what they bought and I hope I can make it work. Watch as I flip through what they bought me and try to create two different surreal analog collages from these books and magazines.

Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!

Rosie, I know this clip is from a year ago, but for me it was brand new and just such an inspiring and passionate testament to your wit, your discipline and your creativity. My cousin and I used to tell "two penguins in a bathtub" jokes c.a. age 12ish so this one really tickled my inner absurdity thanks so much
PS Often I watch videos of you cutting with scissors (or scalpel/knife?) again and again on a much slower speed just to see your cutting technique. As a beginner I practice my “cutting skills” daily but I’m still quite clumsy. I wondered if you wouldn’t mind and had the time, might dedicate a video on cutting technique and also how your place or embed various figures “into” a scene so gracefully.
