Thank you Julianne. Over the years you've always been a mine of useful and succinct information and attention to detail, presented as it should be without ego and always with great clarity, quick yet unhurried. A lesson to all! Thank you again. I thought: I know most of what I need about folders, but I'll listen and bet there will be some things I'll learn. And I did!

I love you Julie! You've kept me well educated and informed for more than 10 years now and I finally had the opportunity to meet you in person at WPPI a couple years ago!!

Is there any advantage in using collections vs folders? I'm assuming a file can only be in one folder but many collections?

So when I look at the folder panel in LRC, I'm really looking at my File Explorer in Windows. All the files I have there, not just the files from LRC. That's the first thing. So if I go and start trying to organize those files while in LRC, I would even be rearranging files that are not even related to LRC. Is that right? That is why we should make files in the File Explorer that correspond to the files we will use in LRC. I didn't do that, I just had Lightroom Images folder and for two years all my LRC photos went there. But then I messed that up somehow and they all started going in other folders, so I have LRC photos everywhere in that drive, the E drive.
But folders really have nothing to do with collections, which was how I organized my photos.
Hmm, not sure what Image Vault folder is.

So you prefer collections or folders for the Workflow in LRC

I use folders for each shoot, then collections to organize groups of photos - I prefer to use collections to organize projects such as images that I want to include in an exhibition or post to social media. Collections also help me keep track of images that I use in my portfolio or have published etc. I'll have a video on collections out soon!

@@jkost I have everything in collections, and I never paid attention to folders. Now I realize I have a mess and chaos in my folders. So I have to try to reorganize everything and figure out how this works.

Way too fast and way too complicated. Why can't LR folders be easy to use like in Apple Photo?
