Mistral is a lively personality, it has the ability to warm or vibrate with its sound. We are never bored with "him", he keeps opening up new and new colorful spaces. But it also has certain irregularities in register transitions. Antonin wants to be perfect, he sounds balanced like a digital piano, but he doesn't have that open personality (introverter and darker at the end of attack) and doesn't have the ability to make an impression, he can't move the performer to passion of flying with the sound.. Mistral is better for me, typical Petrof, representative of the best tradition. I think Petrof begun this tradition around 1880, with model "Ant. Petrof" with fantastic Erard/Kapsch english action and fully singing tone. Ahoj Mirku, zdraví Honza.

I think as others below have stated, they are both superior grands. But as we all know, the same model can have a variance just by where it is placed, how the hammers and action are finished; after all, they are hand crafted and will have each it's own personality within the models. So it is a very personal decision.

Dear Mr.Stehlik, I think both pianos are excellent, world class high end masterpieces. If I would have hypotetically a possibility to choose between these two masterpieces, I would prefer the 284 model. I like it's power and Steinway kind of sound! Best wishes and one day, I will come to try personally Your pianos just for my pleasure. Andrej SK :)

I've got the impression you feel more safe with the Petrof, while Anton is offering an incredible palette of nuances in the pp range, and making them obvious to the listener, while they got lost with the Petrof.
You know of course the story of Chopin being asked whether he preferred an Érard or a Pleyel: he explained he preferred the Érard on days when didn't feel that well, while preferring the Pleyel when feeling less uncertain.

Thank you for the comparison. I loved the socks. 😁I would personally take the 284 because it can produce a bigger sound. I would be happy with either though.

it is really hard to identify the difference. Both pianos are touched by the same sensitive pianist, who knows to find the right tone for the piano, to sat them into the best light. Also it is possible that the both pianos are finished by the same technician. The bigger has a slightly clearer tone. On the recording i have the feeling that treble and middle is better documented than the bass.
I am sure that directly face to face (piano 😄) i listener will hear the significant difference.
Would be great to hear Petrof also in concerts, not only the regular luxury standard of Steindorfolimakwai.
Do you also record the old grand which i saw on the left side? ... the old, aged instruments are my real love.
Sorry to say... in my unpianistique ears almost all modern top pianos sound equal. ╮(╯_╰)╭

Hello. Thanks for your comment. Well, the pianos are day and night, storm and sun, black and white. Completely different character. :-)
The old piano is a new piano with old design. :-)

Not wise. only 1/3 scales used. where is low? and up high sound? why didn't you compare a full range song? wasted time.
