The slow motion is actually a slow time spell. if you look at your wrist you will see a mana and a health bar. when you use slow time the mana bar is drained

The correct way to attack people with shields is to go for their knees and stab them there where you will have a second with their shields not covering the body and you just have to slice away and if the block their shield in time to your first stab their head will be completely exposed
