I'm devastated by Jack's death. I saw the series because HopeValley is the kind of society we want ... kind people who overcome their challenges. the romance of Elizabeth and Jack was perfect, gave us the hope that love is patient and everything supports. I do not know what's going to be next season without Jack watching your baby ... it's not just a show ... it's an inspiration for a better way to live ...
I just watched this interview fully. And all I can see is Erin looking hurt! Dan looked relieved and almost regretful and Lori just trying to keep control. But the look on Erins face says it all. She didn't expect his departure so soon and genuinely cared about him. Whether it love or not she had A lot of respect for him. They have been together for a few years doing this show. Did anyone else notice Erins face expression?

In my country we don’t have Hallmark Channel, my aunt bought this series for us as a gift & it was one of the most uplifting and enchanting series I’ve enjoyed in a while. Loved the chemistry of all of the characters & I even believe they have a genuine love for each other. Great writing and fantastic actors. Thanks for sharing this interview!
I haven't Cried so much in any series or movie, I so looked forward to Jack comming back home to Elizabeth. It was devastating to me. I didn't want Jack to go!!!
It's hard to watch further. Him dying was a shocker and now watching her grieve and going on is to hard for me to watch. It's not just the crying it's as if I'm in a grieving stage. A wonderful show, amazing characters with a roller coaster flip.
I'm absolutely devastated that he's leaving. It honestly makes me want to cry. Jack was the highlight of the show. He was always d So sweet, and humble and heroic. The fact that he died in the show and is leaving is beyond horrible. I know that it's the right thing to do for him, but I'm going to miss him 110% I'm crying rn😢
One week ago I stared to watch “When calls the heart” on Netflix and yesterday I reached S4E8 I just can’t stop crying.. I don’t what happened to me to make me search about it on UA-cam until I found this interview I’m shocked that Jack died in the S5 so I decided to stop watching it and until now I feel that my heart is literally broken !!!!
Daniel and Erin chemistry on set is so intense it’s hard to think they don’t have feelings for one another off set. Every time they kiss it’s passionate and obvious they have a real liking to each other. I’m sad to see the show fall apart the way it is.

Tell me about it! My wife and I stared watching this series on DVD, so I started looking if Hallmark is still making it. So, I started reading about new season, and there was a "spoiler alert", and I'm like:OK, I can read few spoilers. JACK WAS KILLED. We are on season 2. Now, try to watch it! ;)

Daniel and Erin have brought so much to the show together, a lot of us saw hope in real love and romance can still exist. We were so shocked to see Jack had died..... Yes Daniel was special in that role, it was HIS role, and he filled it so well. Some of us needed the happiness of these 2 characters to continue, when life is far from perfect, so I want to put a belated request in for a different actor to play Jack. If we have to lose Daniel, and let us all appreciate he took the time to show he cares by being part of the interview, please don't make us lose Jack too, and all that he represents.
For all the people hating on Daniel Lissing it may be his character, but it’s really the producers fault. They could have recasted him. I wish Lissing the best.
I don't see people hating him, at all. They're expressing their disappointment with Daniel's decision, that was really hard to understand. The producers could have done better also.

If you look at the seasons , Jacks role is getting smaller and smaller. Less mountie stuff and his role in the series was almost down to nothing . I think the producers wanted to have elisabeth independant and therefore jacks part was over.

I didnt want to watch it anymore. I was very disappointed and sad that Jack died. (Although I respect his decision to leave show) I wish he was replaced instead so the love story of Jack and Elizabeth would continue. To me, they were the only reason I started watching the show.
I don’t blame Dan at all. He has every right to leave. My only problem is how it was written. I know you guys thought this was the “best” possible way but as I’m sure it is now apparent to you it clearly wasn’t. All season fans have been ecstatic for Jack and Elizabeth’s happy ending but now they don’t get one. I want to be not affected by this, but in reality this is very upsetting. I’ve waited 5 years to see their wedding, engagement, a baby, AND A HAPPILY EVER AFTER. It’s just very saddening with how this situation was handled. I still love and support all the cast. I’m just not sure if watching a show that I once watched for the beautiful relationship of Jack and Elizabeth that cannot be anymore is something worth continue watching. I will always love Dan, Erin, Lori and the rest of the cast but I’m not sure how I feel about this show anymore. Which is very, very sad for me. We will see how the Christmas movie and season 6 goes.
I totally agree. His exit was written very badly. The writer should have made his exit more acceptable to the fans not just kill him off like that. It was completely unexpected like we didn't even get a chance to prepare for a possibility that he would die. I thought he would surprise Elizabeth and come home early in the 10th episode. Much to my dismay he's actually dead........ What a nice surprise!!.....not...
this is exactly how i feel.... Its almost like i was in the relationship with them. hahaha.... waiting for that happy ending after 5 years, to finally get it and then BAMN its ripped away. It sucks, but i lost interest and its really hard for me to continue watching.

So i did my research. 😏 I, too feel like the writers and producers did not handle well Dan leaving the show. They could have given the fans a better exit. It is annoying that they cant even give him a proper funeral. I mean no Tom and Ma?

Grief counseling? Lost my brother to a heart attack this past November. Just a few days after his 50th birthday. My mom, sister, his gf and I watched as paramedics worked on him for the longest time. Needless to say, reality got hard for me. Although I seldom turn on the TV, Hallmark has always been a way to get my mind off of real life. So I watched Christmas movies until the middle of January. Then I remembered watching a couple of seasons of WCTH years ago and that the leading male role reminded my a lot of my brother. So I decided to watch from the beginning. Fell in love with the story. So Jane Austenish. Love everything about this show. So many sick things going on in the entertainment industry make me so thankful for Hallmark. So I had no idea Daniel Lissing left the show. Got a little suspicious after about the 3rd tease that he might not come home to Elizabeth. So I googled and sure enough his character died. Found out that not only did my brother somewhat look like Lissing, they share the exact same initials (DAL), last name is one vowel off from being identical. their birthday is 4 days apart. It was hard for me to finish watching, but I did. Nothing about this helped my grief LOL. So now that Jack is gone, I’m not buying the new storyline. Elizabeth is very independent and creative. She waits 6 years on the perfect man. She’s also very protective of children. And within a year she’s possibly falling for a saloon owner who comes on the show with shady secrets or another mounty who could never fill a Jack’s boots? Nope! Not buying it. Where is her family? I totally expected her father to step up and invest in her future there. Maybe build her and Jack’s dream home for her and hire a farm hand. I expected her to dive into writing and raising her son. And I’m really hoping Lissing comes back some day. Maybe they buried the wrong body. Maybe he was kidnapped or off on a secret assignment instead of training. Lol. Anything would be better than Elizabeth jumping into a relationship. It’s ok for a woman to be alone. This doesn’t make sense. Listen to her wedding vows. She gave him her soul.
This series is a testament to the talents and giftings of each and every one of these actors & actresses. From the very first episode I was drawn in, along with my heart. I truly believe that this was much than acting. I truly wish that Daniel (Jack) & Erin (Elizabeth) would give one another a chance. You can feel the love they have for one another. And besides that, they would make a gorgeous couple. I wish they would consider courting!
As a fan of the show since the beginning, I would have preferred that either Jack lived and was recast or Elizabeth also left to be with him and came back for visits and they got a new teacher cast. Anyway, I’m optimistic that it still will be a great show because it’s so unique from anything else out right now. It’s got a great story and I can watch it with kids present. Thanks, Hallmark!
Why was Lori sitting in the middle between Dan and Erin? Was she the chaperone or something? Were they afraid that if they sat next to each other they would hold onto each other and never let go?!!
I’m going to try and be kind and honest here. I love this show. Part of why I love it is because it’s sweet and heartfelt. The whole “that’s life” point is hard for me to stomach. Sometimes that is life. Sometimes there are wonderful moments of pure happiness. Hallmark’s entire hallmark is the syrupy (sometimes campy yet wonderful) sunny side of life. I can’t speak for everyone but as much as I love this show I would have rather it end so I could have a happy ending. Maybe I should just stick to hallmark movies and not watch their series. But I love this cast and these people. So hopefully I’ve been kind but I’m just so not okay with this. 😢
I agree with all the comments here. Yes, actors have contracts, but they knew about Daniel leaving a year and a half ago! They couldn’t come up with a better exit? They claim they care about the fans, but kept us in the dark. I’ve watched since the first episode and like so many other fans I twitted to make sure there would be a next season. We were so emotionally invested in this show these past 5 years! As much as I appreciate the 3 of them coming out and doing interviews, it really feels like damage control. I loved the show, but now I really don’t know if I’ll watch again.. maybe in time wounds will heal.

The meaning of this show is real life issues. Hope and Faith through good and difficult times is always important to have and it takes loving supportive people to help each other through the good and the sad times in our life. This show is a reminder of how we can live and be there for each other!

Elizabeth felt cheated? I feel cheated as well. After waiting for 5 seasons for their wedding, and then to have Dan be killed??? Not a good idea Hallmark. There were so many ways that ending could have been handled, leaving the door open for Dan should he ever decide to return. I feel Dan will come to deeply regret his decision to leave the show when his L.A. flame moves on to the next Handsome Hunk. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I will continue to watch. I want 'happy' from Hallmark. Not heartbreak.
I Think a good way would have been to end this show After the wedding, with a pregnant Elizabeth and Jack by her side. Just this happy Ending and no new Season...

I agree SO much! People tend to wanna drag things out, sometimes for their own purposes but sometimes just because there's more stories to tell and that's fair. BUT, they really could have ended it on a great note with so many heart warming stories under their belts, than do what they did because then even though it can still be good, it's never the same and people yearn for the beginning again.
I just finished binge watching all the seasons and I am devastated with season 5 finale! I wish the audience could have enjoyed a little bit more Elizabeth's and Jack's story together! It is hard to get over it! I keep wondering how beautiful it would be Jack holding their baby for the first time and moments like that. They had so many moments dreaming with their future... The show did a great job engaging the audience in this beautiful love story and broke our hearts after it. :( #comebackJack
We know that they are excellent actors because they got all of us "addicted" to their show. But as Lori said, actor's do decide to pursue other things once their contract is up, and I wish Mr. Lissing only the best which we all should. I can't even imagine how difficult it was for the entire cast to lose a member of their TV family. My only comment is that as soon as they knew that Mr. Lissing was leaving, at that point in time the writers should have started preparing us earlier for his upcoming death instead of how quickly they brought it on right after the marriage. Please keep in mind that they ended on a positive and hopeful note with the pregnancy. With the birth of Jack's child, we will now see how Elizabeth grows in her role as a single parent, the problems she'll face, and, in time, eventually having a new love interest. This will then mirror what so many women have to deal with in real life on a daily basis. In my opinion, there aren't too many shows like this out there that a family can watch together. Therefore, if anything good comes from Mr. Lissing's departure, it will be that the writers are much more aware, if they aren't already, of how their viewers are truly involved and care about the characters and this show. I truly hope that once everyone gets over the shock of Jack's death that they continue to support this show, otherwise, we will be the losers because we weren't there for them when our hearts were called upon to support it.
I've been living abroad for the past three years so I get WCTH seasons months after they are shown in the States thats why I just found out about Jack's dead. I am so sad and broken hearted, I had a love like their love and that's why I watch the show. I lost my beloved in a tragic accident, I don't need to be reminded of that time in my life. Jack and Elizabeth made me go back to those days when I was loved. I don't know why Mr. Lissing left the show but I know he desappointed a big audience that like me won't be watching anymore. Despite the fact that I like these people, they could have handled things much better. They have known Dan was leaving a year and a half ago. The storyline should have begun, at that point, to veer towards slowly bringing in other love interests for Erin to finally having her chose someone else.
I felt like their romance went on way too long. They milked it for all they could get. they should have married them off at the end of season 2. the show would have still been good with them as a settled married couple but when he left it would have been easier to take then them to get married, have a week together then he is off on mounty work to get killed.
What a wonderful run of this show..I have enjoyed every bit of it.. It's sad how many angry, negative comments from fans are being voiced. Good things always come to and end. That's life many time over!! True love is wonderful..especially displayed on a TV or movie screen.. We all bought into Jack and Elizabeth's love story...but tragedy strikes and many lovers are parted forever on screen and off. It's best to focus on the "feelings" this show provoked in each of us. Daniel Lissing's character was the type of man every woman desires..a good man, handsome, strong, faithful..God-fearing. Elizabeth's character is soft, genuine, trustworthy, and gutsy,..she reminds each of us...there is a "spirit of adventure" and goodwill that must to be explored...and that dreams reached for can be realized. Elizabeth faced her fears and went after her passions, including Jack. And let's not forget Abigail! This show stands on her confidence, strength of character, perseverence, her love for others, her hope, against insurmountable odds of survival and loss. Abigail, is what every woman should espire to be.. Bravo to the all the actors and writers, you gave us one beautiful ride in the ultimate human experience.. Thank you!
My suggestion to save the show, you's should have Jack in a hospital face wrap in bandages can't remember who he is. Like in the movie little princess, with Shirley Temple. That's when you introduce a new actor.
I had two favorite shows and this was one of them. I feel cheated, with the other show one of the main characters was written off as well. Count me out as well. Life is tragic, my two shows was a life line from the mean world we live in.
Only God's love is perfect. But the show has been able to depict love between couple, a foster mother and her children, friends and neighborhood to near perfection. It was devastating seeing Eliz without Jack. I have always envisioned a society like Hope Valley, where everybody stands up for each other. This show is so very pure and genuine. But, somehow I couldn't endure Jack leaving the show. It didn't go too well with me😞
OMG my heart broke when she got the news that Jack died I was like noooooo!! I cried like a baby the Whole rest of the episode after she got the sad news....a part of my heart died too. I wish there were more men like him in the world. I totally didn’t see this coming, you guys gave me a big shock. I’m still a little depressed about him dying 😭
From the start I loved the show, couldn't get enough of it. They totally climbed into my heart. Watching the love grow and the emotions were amazing. Never thought Hallmark to be so sad, it was a shocker. Never the less WCTH will always be my favorite show as well the great cast. All the best to Dan on his journey forward. I was watching all of the Heartland episodes until UP stopped airing it and didn't pick up like they had been doing a season later. I haven't thought to check to see if UP has again started showing the newest episodes? Are they still making new episodes of Heartland? Or is it all reruns now?
Just Me Yes ! I’m watching season 11 now ! Netflix has up to season 9 . Amazon Prime Video has up to current which is also on TV now weekly . I have Verizon Fios at home and Heartland is new every Wednesday night for 2 hours! There are 2 1 hour shows every Wednesday evenings on UP channel 738 . It’s sooooo good !
I don't need a downton Abby repeat! Hallmark playing with people emotions and I for one cannot watch a show that would spend 5 seasons making its fans fall in with THE MAIN CHARACTER only to kill them off! Like what were they thinking? The widowed mother/baby angle is ridiculous! Find a away to bring Jack back hallmark! Don't ruin your best show with nonsense writers. I watch WCTH because it's great show that doesn't need to do the foolishness that other shows have to do in order to enjoyable! Hallmark y'all need to fix this and do better. P.s. Rosemary should have been the one to get pregnant this season and I don't appreciate the rush job y'all doing with Elizabeth and Jack; it's really uncalled.

Gia Marie pathetic attempt at a PR nightmare. They irritated every nerve of mine . This fan has left Hope Valley for good and it’s been liberating. Not letting them suck the joy out of me again by killing off a main character , regardless of what was said about this not being a recurring theme. A show filled with widows and fatherless or motherless children. I can see real life everyday. I watched to escape it
They strayed far the book and basically came up with their own version. They knew he was leaving for quite some time (before season 5 even begun filiming) I seriously think there is more to the story, there had to be some sort of falling out or issues on set or off.
I now accept this situation... I've loved their story so much from the beginning and I'll still be watching. I hope Daniel gets through his personal trials and I see that it was probably really hard to leave and have all this backlash. So I'm done being mad and I wish the "When Calls the Heart" cast all the best.

I cried the entire two episodes of his death! Sad, they ruined the show. I'm not interested in watching it anymore - Jack was the reason I loved the show, his character is what made the show so good. Love all the characters, but Jack's (that only Daniel could play) was the reason the show was so good. Man - bad decision, the show is ruined! Should have just had the series end with Jack and Elizabeth especting a baby, such a poor decision! Done with the series!!

This is just a rehash of what was said in the fb live thing! Right down to Lori doing all of the talking. I'm torn. I really think they could have recast Jack instead of killing off the character. I understand that Dan wanted to move on and do other things but the show isn't going to be the same now. Jack and Elizabeth made wcth. They're the main characters. As Elizabeth and Clara both said in the final episode, I feel cheated. Truer words couldn't have been said.
What "Very Personal" reason could keep Dan from shooting a few months for season 6? Its either something with his co-stars, his girlfriend, or its a money thing. Dan owes me $50.00 because I lost a bet with my kids on episode 10 that he wasn't actually dead. I said it was actually Elizabeth's father that had died, along with about 5 other scenario's I had made up in my mind. "There's no way they would kill off Jack" I said. Unfortunately I was wrong. Lori says season 6 will be "Business as usual", but I think the thing that will be missing is about half the fans. I will probably watch next season, which I predict will be the last, only because there are so many other great characters and great acting. I will definately avoid anything else Dan is doing. Was i the only one that noticed Erin mouth "I love you" to Dan at the end of the interview?

Sad Hallmark didn't see this before hand. So many dreams where broken. Now so many don't want to see the show. Me, personal I felt it was a good story up until they destroyed the story line. Adding a baby isn't going to repair what was taken away. I'm tired of the single life of moms, an dads raising their children, why can't for once you's just leave well enough alone. It was a heart breaker for me, again to see a family lose their husband or father. I lost my son who had 3 children. By the way his name was Daniel. I didn't need to experience the reminder of that pain again. Now seeing the show will just be, a reminder . Thank you for your consideration of feelings. Oh I get it, it's about the budget.

No, they didn't have to do that. They could had recast Jack. A lot of fans had rather that then to kill him off. Even for fans that didn't want a recast it was still something they could had done!
Just started watching this on Netflix and I was at the episode when Jack said it wasn't his time to go after the pnuemonia scare. Guess it was his time after getting married and having a child ...a whole life and family to leave behind. Mmmmmmmm K. Maybe I don't want to continue to watch this series.

So, you would not had watched if they had did a recast? IF that's the case you are that attached to a actor then I can understand. I'm so glad I do not get attached to actors! Not for years anyways. What I find extremely funny is that some fans that would not accept another actor to play Jack but they are all excited over another actor being another love interest for her LOL As for me, I don't care to watch a expecting widow or a new love interest. There are other fans that did want a recast. Hope you enjoy the show.
Although WCTH is one of my favorite shows, please remember, t's a show and Dan is a real person with a real life. Do those of you showing anger seriously condemn the man for wanting to live his life as he wishes to live it? Let someone else dictate what you do for a living and see how that goes. Chris chris true but Dan played Jack. And people might say recast but I hate when they do that because one person cannot act like another. As they said Jack dying depicts life and I get that real life is bad at times but it’s also good. This show has mostly only shown good. I don’t mind a little bad.

For me it's not fair that you are loyal to Dan and he wasn't with them with the fans...the story it's ruined ...all actors in the show make such a great job but this show was somenthing that make me forget all the bad things in the world ...if i wanna to see trágic things or sadness i can see the news.
I hope so, too, but too late. They killed the character already! They could bring him back as a ghost like they did with Jeffrey Morgan in Greys Anatomy, since fans loved him so much that the show had to bring him back as like an angel/ghost.
Eleonore Bon that seems fine to me but what I think is that the producers did not handle Daniel's departure in The best way. He was a main character and with his decision affects the story and his other colleagues. I did not know him before the WCTH...but this it's just my opinion
I wish Daniel Well, but they new about it for one and a half years, and cheated their fans. We would have had no problem with a recast because he wanted to leave, but to give us a wedding and a funeral right away. Terrible, just terrible.
I love When Calls The Heart. It's one of the best shows on the Hallmark Channel. I think it's better than a lot of shows that are on the general network stations. Although I didn't want Daniel Lissing's character to leave, I am probably one of the few fans that actually liked how the writers and producers exited his character. I couldn't think of the possibility of another actor playing Jack and then have the storyline try to explain how his face looks so different. Season 6 will definitely be different without Jack/Daniel. I will watch the show because of the fact that I like the others actors and actresses on it. We shall see how good the new Mountie is. I just hope that the producers and writers don't pair up Elizabeth and the new Mountie. Elizabeth has already been through that life before.

Fans talk about what great story lines WCTH has. Well, if that's the case they would accept another Jack so those J&E story lines would continue! I don't get attached to a actor. I get attached to the story lines, the characters. I won't be watching anymore. Oh, ok, I do get attached to animal actors LOL Lassie, Happy the Dog, Happy the Cat LOL and so on.
toni MJ , remember, it has been Lori's bent to portray strong, single independent-from-men kind of work away from the home type of women. That's the excuse she used to keep Pastor Frank out of the WCTH storyline.
I think there would have been just as much angst with an actor switch for many viewers - seems Daniel and Erin just "clicked." I just hope Daniel hasn't made a mistake - Dan Stevens of Downton Abbey acclaim made the same decision and he was killed off too, and as far as I'm concerned, none of his later "career choices" has done him justice like DA did. But that was his choice, probably not to be type-cast, and I say to both Daniel and Dan: "I wish you well in your future endeavors." Movin' right along ...

If the actors had explained it was Lissing's choice to leave the show and then recast another actor from all the comments at different sites I have read the majority of fans would had accepted that rather than Kill off Jack. I won't be watching anymore, not just because they killed off a main character but how they strung the fans along and by the time they did get J&E together he was gone several episodes then back they finally marry then quickly gone again then boom dead. I have to accept what happens in real life but I do not have to accept what happens on a TV show LOL

I saw the series because HopeValley is the kind of society we want ... kind people who overcome their challenges. the romance of Elizabeth and Jack was perfect, gave us the hope that love is patient and everything supports. I do not know what's going to be next season without Jack watching your baby ... it's not just a show ... it's an inspiration for a better way to live ...

I just watched this interview fully. And all I can see is Erin looking hurt! Dan looked relieved and almost regretful and Lori just trying to keep control. But the look on Erins face says it all. She didn't expect his departure so soon and genuinely cared about him. Whether it love or not she had A lot of respect for him. They have been together for a few years doing this show. Did anyone else notice Erins face expression?

It's hard to watch further. Him dying was a shocker and now watching her grieve and going on is to hard for me to watch. It's not just the crying it's as if I'm in a grieving stage. A wonderful show, amazing characters with a roller coaster flip.

Daniel and Erin have brought so much to the show together, a lot of us saw hope in real love and romance can still exist. We were so shocked to see Jack had died..... Yes Daniel was special in that role, it was HIS role, and he filled it so well. Some of us needed the happiness of these 2 characters to continue, when life is far from perfect, so I want to put a belated request in for a different actor to play Jack. If we have to lose Daniel, and let us all appreciate he took the time to show he cares by being part of the interview, please don't make us lose Jack too, and all that he represents.

I don't see people hating him, at all. They're expressing their disappointment with Daniel's decision, that was really hard to understand. The producers could have done better also.
What I wonder was it really Dan's decision or did the producers tell him to say that? I think that LL and BB had something to with it! Just my opinion and gut feeling I have! Him and Erin don't have that sparkle in their eyes anymore and were very sad during the Facebook Live- Something just doesn't add up to me! JMO

If you look at the seasons , Jacks role is getting smaller and smaller. Less mountie stuff and his role in the series was almost down to nothing . I think the producers wanted to have elisabeth independant and therefore jacks part was over.

I didnt want to watch it anymore. I was very disappointed and sad that Jack died. (Although I respect his decision to leave show) I wish he was replaced instead so the love story of Jack and Elizabeth would continue. To me, they were the only reason I started watching the show.
I don’t blame Dan at all. He has every right to leave. My only problem is how it was written. I know you guys thought this was the “best” possible way but as I’m sure it is now apparent to you it clearly wasn’t. All season fans have been ecstatic for Jack and Elizabeth’s happy ending but now they don’t get one. I want to be not affected by this, but in reality this is very upsetting. I’ve waited 5 years to see their wedding, engagement, a baby, AND A HAPPILY EVER AFTER. It’s just very saddening with how this situation was handled. I still love and support all the cast. I’m just not sure if watching a show that I once watched for the beautiful relationship of Jack and Elizabeth that cannot be anymore is something worth continue watching. I will always love Dan, Erin, Lori and the rest of the cast but I’m not sure how I feel about this show anymore. Which is very, very sad for me. We will see how the Christmas movie and season 6 goes.
I totally agree. His exit was written very badly. The writer should have made his exit more acceptable to the fans not just kill him off like that. It was completely unexpected like we didn't even get a chance to prepare for a possibility that he would die. I thought he would surprise Elizabeth and come home early in the 10th episode. Much to my dismay he's actually dead........ What a nice surprise!!.....not...

This series has warmed my heart up during these difficult times we're living.
Grief counseling? Lost my brother to a heart attack this past November. Just a few days after his 50th birthday. My mom, sister, his gf and I watched as paramedics worked on him for the longest time. Needless to say, reality got hard for me. Although I seldom turn on the TV, Hallmark has always been a way to get my mind off of real life. So I watched Christmas movies until the middle of January. Then I remembered watching a couple of seasons of WCTH years ago and that the leading male role reminded my a lot of my brother. So I decided to watch from the beginning. Fell in love with the story. So Jane Austenish. Love everything about this show. So many sick things going on in the entertainment industry make me so thankful for Hallmark.
So I had no idea Daniel Lissing left the show. Got a little suspicious after about the 3rd tease that he might not come home to Elizabeth. So I googled and sure enough his character died. Found out that not only did my brother somewhat look like Lissing, they share the exact same initials (DAL), last name is one vowel off from being identical. their birthday is 4 days apart. It was hard for me to finish watching, but I did. Nothing about this helped my grief LOL.
So now that Jack is gone, I’m not buying the new storyline. Elizabeth is very independent and creative. She waits 6 years on the perfect man. She’s also very protective of children. And within a year she’s possibly falling for a saloon owner who comes on the show with shady secrets or another mounty who could never fill a Jack’s boots? Nope! Not buying it. Where is her family? I totally expected her father to step up and invest in her future there. Maybe build her and Jack’s dream home for her and hire a farm hand. I expected her to dive into writing and raising her son. And I’m really hoping Lissing comes back some day. Maybe they buried the wrong body. Maybe he was kidnapped or off on a secret assignment instead of training. Lol. Anything would be better than Elizabeth jumping into a relationship. It’s ok for a woman to be alone. This doesn’t make sense. Listen to her wedding vows. She gave him her soul.
This series is a testament to the talents and giftings of each and every one of these actors & actresses. From the very first episode I was drawn in, along with my heart. I truly believe that this was much than acting. I truly wish that Daniel (Jack) & Erin (Elizabeth) would give one another a chance. You can feel the love they have for one another. And besides that, they would make a gorgeous couple. I wish they would consider courting!
As a fan of the show since the beginning, I would have preferred that either Jack lived and was recast or Elizabeth also left to be with him and came back for visits and they got a new teacher cast. Anyway, I’m optimistic that it still will be a great show because it’s so unique from anything else out right now. It’s got a great story and I can watch it with kids present. Thanks, Hallmark!
Why was Lori sitting in the middle between Dan and Erin? Was she the chaperone or something? Were they afraid that if they sat next to each other they would hold onto each other and never let go?!!
I’m going to try and be kind and honest here. I love this show. Part of why I love it is because it’s sweet and heartfelt. The whole “that’s life” point is hard for me to stomach. Sometimes that is life. Sometimes there are wonderful moments of pure happiness. Hallmark’s entire hallmark is the syrupy (sometimes campy yet wonderful) sunny side of life. I can’t speak for everyone but as much as I love this show I would have rather it end so I could have a happy ending. Maybe I should just stick to hallmark movies and not watch their series. But I love this cast and these people. So hopefully I’ve been kind but I’m just so not okay with this. 😢
I agree with all the comments here. Yes, actors have contracts, but they knew about Daniel leaving a year and a half ago! They couldn’t come up with a better exit? They claim they care about the fans, but kept us in the dark. I’ve watched since the first episode and like so many other fans I twitted to make sure there would be a next season. We were so emotionally invested in this show these past 5 years!
As much as I appreciate the 3 of them coming out and doing interviews, it really feels like damage control. I loved the show, but now I really don’t know if I’ll watch again.. maybe in time wounds will heal.

The meaning of this show is real life issues. Hope and Faith through good and difficult times is always important to have and it takes loving supportive people to help each other through the good and the sad times in our life. This show is a reminder of how we can live and be there for each other!

Elizabeth felt cheated? I feel cheated as well. After waiting for 5 seasons for their wedding, and then to have Dan be killed??? Not a good idea Hallmark. There were so many ways that ending could have been handled, leaving the door open for Dan should he ever decide to return. I feel Dan will come to deeply regret his decision to leave the show when his L.A. flame moves on to the next Handsome Hunk. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I will continue to watch. I want 'happy' from Hallmark. Not heartbreak.

I agree SO much! People tend to wanna drag things out, sometimes for their own purposes but sometimes just because there's more stories to tell and that's fair. BUT, they really could have ended it on a great note with so many heart warming stories under their belts, than do what they did because then even though it can still be good, it's never the same and people yearn for the beginning again.

I just finished binge watching all the seasons and I am devastated with season 5 finale! I wish the audience could have enjoyed a little bit more Elizabeth's and Jack's story together! It is hard to get over it! I keep wondering how beautiful it would be Jack holding their baby for the first time and moments like that. They had so many moments dreaming with their future... The show did a great job engaging the audience in this beautiful love story and broke our hearts after it. :( #comebackJack

We know that they are excellent actors because they got all of us "addicted" to their show. But as Lori said, actor's do decide to pursue other things once their contract is up, and I wish Mr. Lissing only the best which we all should. I can't even imagine how difficult it was for the entire cast to lose a member of their TV family. My only comment is that as soon as they knew that Mr. Lissing was leaving, at that point in time the writers should have started preparing us earlier for his upcoming death instead of how quickly they brought it on right after the marriage.
Please keep in mind that they ended on a positive and hopeful note with the pregnancy. With the birth of Jack's child, we will now see how Elizabeth grows in her role as a single parent, the problems she'll face, and, in time, eventually having a new love interest. This will then mirror what so many women have to deal with in real life on a daily basis.
In my opinion, there aren't too many shows like this out there that a family can watch together. Therefore, if anything good comes from Mr. Lissing's departure, it will be that the writers are much more aware, if they aren't already, of how their viewers are truly involved and care about the characters and this show. I truly hope that once everyone gets over the shock of Jack's death that they continue to support this show, otherwise, we will be the losers because we weren't there for them when our hearts were called upon to support it.

I am so sad and broken hearted, I had a love like their love and that's why I watch the show. I lost my beloved in a tragic accident, I don't need to be reminded of that time in my life. Jack and Elizabeth made me go back to those days when I was loved. I don't know why Mr. Lissing left the show but I know he desappointed a big audience that like me won't be watching anymore. Despite the fact that I like these people, they could have handled things much better. They have known Dan was leaving a year and a half ago. The storyline should have begun, at that point, to veer towards slowly bringing in other love interests for Erin to finally having her chose someone else.

I felt like their romance went on way too long. They milked it for all they could get. they should have married them off at the end of season 2. the show would have still been good with them as a settled married couple but when he left it would have been easier to take then them to get married, have a week together then he is off on mounty work to get killed.
What a wonderful run of this show..I have enjoyed every bit of it.. It's sad how many angry, negative comments from fans are being voiced. Good things always come to and end. That's life many time over!! True love is wonderful..especially displayed on a TV or movie screen.. We all bought into Jack and Elizabeth's love story...but tragedy strikes and many lovers are parted forever on screen and off. It's best to focus on the "feelings" this show provoked in each of us. Daniel Lissing's character was the type of man every woman desires..a good man, handsome, strong, faithful..God-fearing. Elizabeth's character is soft, genuine, trustworthy, and gutsy,..she reminds each of us...there is a "spirit of adventure" and goodwill that must to be explored...and that dreams reached for can be realized. Elizabeth faced her fears and went after her passions, including Jack. And let's not forget Abigail! I had two favorite shows and this was one of them. I feel cheated, with the other show one of the main characters was written off as well. Count me out as well. Life is tragic, my two shows was a life line from the mean world we live in.

Only God's love is perfect. But the show has been able to depict love between couple, a foster mother and her children, friends and neighborhood to near perfection. It was devastating seeing Eliz without Jack. I have always envisioned a society like Hope Valley, where everybody stands up for each other. This show is so very pure and genuine. But, somehow I couldn't endure Jack leaving the show. It didn't go too well with me😞
OMG my heart broke when she got the news that Jack died I was like noooooo!! I cried like a baby the Whole rest of the episode after she got the sad news....a part of my heart died too. I wish there were more men like him in the world. I totally didn’t see this coming, you guys gave me a big shock. I’m still a little depressed about him dying 😭
From the start I loved the show, couldn't get enough of it. They totally climbed into my heart. Watching the love grow and the emotions were amazing. Never thought Hallmark to be so sad, it was a shocker. Never the less WCTH will always be my favorite show as well the great cast. All the best to Dan on his journey forward. Gia Marie pathetic attempt at a PR nightmare. They irritated every nerve of mine . This fan has left Hope Valley for good and it’s been liberating. Not letting them suck the joy out of me again by killing off a main character , regardless of what was said about this not being a recurring theme. A show filled with widows and fatherless or motherless children. I can see real life everyday. I watched to escape it
They strayed far the book and basically came up with their own version. They knew he was leaving for quite some time (before season 5 even begun filiming) I seriously think there is more to the story, there had to be some sort of falling out or issues on set or off.
I now accept this situation... I've loved their story so much from the beginning and I'll still be watching. I hope Daniel gets through his personal trials and I see that it was probably really hard to leave and have all this backlash. So I'm done being mad and I wish the "When Calls the Heart" cast all the best.

Should have just had the series end with Jack and Elizabeth especting a baby, such a poor decision! Done with the series!!

I understand that Dan wanted to move on and do other things but the show isn't going to be the same now. Jack and Elizabeth made wcth. They're the main characters. What "Very Personal" reason could keep Dan from shooting a few months for season 6? Its either something with his co-stars, his girlfriend, or its a money thing. Dan owes me $50.00 because I lost a bet with my kids on episode 10 that he wasn't actually dead. I said it was actually Elizabeth's father that had died, along with about 5 other scenario's I had made up in my mind. "There's no way they would kill off Jack" I said. Unfortunately I was wrong. Lori says season 6 will be "Business as usual", but I think the thing that will be missing is about half the fans. I will probably watch next season, which I predict will be the last, only because there are so many other great characters and great acting. I will definately avoid anything else Dan is doing. Was i the only one that noticed Erin mouth "I love you" to Dan at the end of the interview?

Sad Hallmark didn't see this before hand. So many dreams where broken. Now so many don't want to see the show. Me, personal I felt it was a good story up until they destroyed the story line. Adding a baby isn't going to repair what was taken away. I'm tired of the single life of moms, an dads raising their children, why can't for once you's just leave well enough alone. It was a heart breaker for me, again to see a family lose their husband or father. I lost my son who had 3 children. By the way his name was Daniel. I didn't need to experience the reminder of that pain again. Now seeing the show will just be, a reminder . Thank you for your consideration of feelings. Oh I get it, it's about the budget.

Just started watching this on Netflix and I was at the episode when Jack said it wasn't his time to go after the pnuemonia scare. I love When Calls The Heart. It's one of the best shows on the Hallmark Channel. I think it's better than a lot of shows that are on the general network stations. Although I didn't want Daniel Lissing's character to leave, I am probably one of the few fans that actually liked how the writers and producers exited his character. I couldn't think of the possibility of another actor playing Jack and then have the storyline try to explain how his face looks so different. Season 6 will definitely be different without Jack/Daniel. I will watch the show because of the fact that I like the others actors and actresses on it. We shall see how good the new Mountie is. I just hope that the producers and writers don't pair up Elizabeth and the new Mountie. Elizabeth has already been through that life before.

I think there would have been just as much angst with an actor switch for many viewers - seems Daniel and Erin just "clicked." I just hope Daniel hasn't made a mistake - Dan Stevens of Downton Abbey acclaim made the same decision and he was killed off too, and as far as I'm concerned, none of his later "career choices" has done him justice like DA did. But that was his choice, probably not to be type-cast, and I say to both Daniel and Dan: "I wish you well in your future endeavors." Movin' right along ...

If the actors had explained it was Lissing's choice to leave the show and then recast another actor from all the comments at different sites I have read the majority of fans would had accepted that rather than Kill off Jack. I won't be watching anymore, not just because they killed off a main character but how they strung the fans along and by the time they did get J&E together he was gone several episodes then back they finally marry then quickly gone again then boom dead. I have to accept what happens in real life but I do not have to accept what happens on a TV show LOL
